Seems to me we're seeing the consequences of poor investment in recent years and failures to move players on. We have a very large squad and might need to lose seven or eight of those. Aly Gold did a piece recently about how bad we are at selling, and I think he's right.
I'm not sure if it's something we should read into that with this huge squad we have I don't think I've seen the Saudis interested in one single player

They're offering 300 million for Mbappe but have only one link to Harry Kane who as the England captain is as high profile as signing as you get. I know Kane likely wouldn't go but I'm sure their mindset it throw money at it and see what happens.

I just think Levy / the club has failed to move on players quickly when it became clear they weren't working out. Most of us right now could name ten players we wouldn't mind being sold, which is an awful place to be in as a squad.

I agree but something has to be behind it.

It's an issue we have always had

I agree they're not even hiding the greed anymore but have some faith in Ange , look how good we were going forward already against West Ham.

We can't make greedy billionaires piss off but we can enjoy the ride under this manager who says the right thing at every turn, gets respect from everyone and plays amazing football.

I like the look of Ange but I can’t help but feel he’s going to get stitched up here.

As I keep saying Levy doesn't want to take an L on any deal no matter how big or small that deal might be. The old saying "your first loss is your best loss" is very true in the vast majority of football decisions and yet we fail to play the markets this way year after year after year.

To shift players you need a buyer , as Spurs are about 5th or 6th highest wage payers in the PL trying to shift players like N'dombele who is on a decent wage is not easy .
Who is going to pay N'dombele the reputed £200 grand a week he is being paid, it's a bit like Man C and Adeybayor who had to subsidise his wage to get rid.

The issue is Levy. If you’re a club and your shortlist for a position has a couple of players and one of them is here, you think we might as well go with the other option rather than deal with Levy. Add that together with the financial collapse of most of the European leagues and it means we’re stuck with most of them.

It isn't easy but you need to do it nonetheless. As you suggested, we may need to subsidise his wages or something else.

First season in years where I’ve just totally lost hope. Everything coming out of the club just makes it sounds like DL has no idea how to adapt to the changing financial landscape in football.

I have no confidence in him and the board.

He'll likely leave Ange short this summer and we'll be here again in a year or two if we're lucky with the usual excuses

How can we, realistically, get this clown out of our club. One of the most profitable sports team on the planet and all he does is milk the fans dry and shop in the bargain basement.

We also need some vocal representatives in the MSM to constantly call him out and shine a light on ENICs mismanagement and lack of investment.

So tired of these parasites

Obviously Levy and Enic have done some great things for our club but it really is time for a change. I’m sick to death of how we (Levy) conduct ourselves in the transfer market. There’s always an angle or agenda with every player we sign. We never seem to have a plan, we don’t scout players and invest wisely. We just take punts on players and then wonder why we’ve got such a bloated squad. Yes we spend money but never wisely, we’ll probably end up signing another 3 or 4 players before the window closes but I guarantee not one of them will be ideal. I’m actually excited about Ange so go and find a proper centre half, a leader, a general and let’s see what he can do.

It’s a sad state of affairs, to be sure. Not being able to pull the trigger on very reasonable deals and basically ignore the needs of the playing side because a) you’re too busy or b) you’re overwhelmed with voices in the room is just inexcusable for a club our size. It’s never going to change with him here, dipping his fingers in every pot at the club and never giving everything the full attention it needs. I would be fine if he simply focused on the business development side, because I think he has a keen eye for that kind of stuff (mostly). There’s just absolutely no reason for him to be involved in the footballing side anymore. It’s just so bizarre.

1. Think like him - what does he want more than anything
2. Cause the opposite to happen
3. Make it known it is his fault

That's the place we were in almost constantly for the best part of two decades from the early '90s through to the late '00s.

If we start off badly, once again all criticism should and will be aimed directly at him. He needs to feel uncomfortable and know we ain't going to stand for his bs any longer. Make it known we will not hold Ange responsible for any of this mess.

I just can't believe that our finances are that restricted.
The stadium is raking it in and we're already one of the richest clubs in the world, with plenty of room for both ffp and wage to turnover.

You've only got to look down the road to see that lot spending over 200m on three players, when they generate less money than us.

The money MUST be there, we've just got a chairman who is allergic to spending it.

I've been confident that we had a chance of keeping Kane, what with itk that we'd throw everything at him but if we're cutting corners elsewhere as suggested yesterday, that hope has gone up in smoke.

Literally every other club in the league spends money when and where they need it, just look at Forest last season.
If we're now scratching around for bargains and cheap options after already signing Maddison and Vicario for very reasonable prices...I just can't get my head around it being anything other than a total lack of ambition from Levy.
The thing about Levy is that it's not about spending less money necessarily. It's just about "winning" every transfer negotiation he enters. That's why he likes opportunistic buys where the selling club is under pressure. So the only way we will ever get a proper squad together is through sheer luck rather than any operational wisdom.

Quite a cryptic post from The Other Place. Taking from that what?

Poor Danny, he has finally realised that he knows nothing about football and really, really should not be having opinions on players, or disagreeing with professionals he pays to know about such things....but....it's so difficult because people HE APPOINTED, who also know nothing about football, keep whispering in his ear to intervene and over rule the football people, - the corporate suits tell him to not listen to the track-suits?

Meanwhile someone has located Uncle Joe's yacht and rattled his cage by whispering in his ear about Kane, Joe gets on the satellite phone and tells Danny....no bloody way Harry goes for nothing when I/we could get 90m for him now.

Meanwhile-meanwhile the very low chance that liberty media will stuff Joe and Danny's mouths with enough gold for them to sell is being used as an excuse to put a freeze on player purchases?.

Is that really where we are now?
