Hindsight is a wonderful thing, and whilst I was furious at the time with a lot of those transfer failures (the 2018 non-event, and the Elano, Petrov, Distin summer in 2007 in particular) there are many in there that you can hardly blame Levy for. You have to remember that even up until Poch's first season we were closer in annual revenue to the Swanseas and West Broms of the league than Liverpool or Arsenal, let alone the oil clubs or the big Spanish teams. Funds were tight, particularly when saving for a new stadium - so expecting us to compete on wages for players like Tevez, Willian or Hulk when up against the competition we were was just plainly unrealistic.

Every club has a few that got away. But it's weird. For some reason AVB never complains to the media that Levy didn't push the boat out and get him Leandro Damião. Not coughing up for Mane is a terrible mistake in hindsight, but I never hear anyone talk about the bullet dodged by pulling the plug on bidding for Saido Berahino who Poch also wanted. Redknapp has mentioned how close he supposedly was to getting Eden Hazard if we'd got CL football that year, maybe we would have got him if we hadn't collapsed, but Redknapp wanted also wanted to sign all sorts of shite like a washed up Joe Cole on big wages and he left Portsmouth in a disastrous financial state so honestly a bit of control was probably what he needed.

Recruitment since 2016 has been shocking though. Only three clear hits (Romero, Bentancur and Kulusevski) with the rest being average/shite or at least jury still out. Last summer was really one of the worst for me though as for the first time since I've been a fan it actually felt like we had a bit of money to spend when we weren't just using funds to replace a star player and yet we've got very little to show for it. You can absolutely blame Levy for having people like Hitchen and Paratici running things in that time but articles like the above are just obvious hit pieces that only tell a small part of the story.

The most important signing of the summer is a top class DoF that can improve the scouting and transfer infrastructure of the club. By an absolute mile.

I think your right about player specifics, deals happen some don't and even if you forget about individual names for the most part I think the main thing it highlights apart from few windows the transfer policy and scouting is none existent. It's just hap hazard hoping to pick up deals. This is not sustainable, particularly the calibre of players we buy.

The infamous Saha and Nelson transfer window always makes me laugh. Harry Redknapp was in court during that January transfer window for tax evasion. He was hardly going to get backed under those circumstances.

We also had enough firepower up front, He signed Emmanuel Adebayor a few months earlier who scored 18 in 37 and we had Jermain Defore who scoreed 17 in 38. We also had VDV, Bale and Lennon. Attacking options were not something we were short of.

We also brought in Vertonghen a few months after signing Nelson, who was clearly just stop gap after Cahill decided to join Chelsea. He was hardly a long term solution. As with a lot of articles/stories that get published and used as a stick to beat the Club/Levy with, a lot of context is always missing.

Well yeah but the fact remains we had a decent first eleven but zero quality if we had any injuries or loss of form. It was hardly a stunning turn of events that Adebayor would stop trying in games, which is exactly what happened, and with Defoe unable to play up front on his own and considering VDV wasn't able to play more than 60 minutes in matches, we actually didn't have anywhere near enough attacking options, and we completely collapsed. We were 3 points off 1st place in January with a real shot at the title and we signed two geriatrics.

While that may give more context, it also makes it all the more crazy that Sherwood managed to get loud enough in Levy's ear to be given the manager's job.
Why would anyone listen to Dim Tim is beyond me he is clueless

Watched the first 10 mins. Guy shows no emotion. Did I expect anything different. Too guarded and shifty.

Edit - I’ve since watched the full interview and revise my earlier comment. Still a few flaws and some contradiction, but it’s a start. I think he was honest as ‘he wanted’ to be highlighting a pecking order and realism around growth. Even acknowledged signings that hadn’t worked out, is that a recognition that things need to change or was that just an offer of info as part of his negotiation with us? For all my frustration with him, I’m a fraction happier he has put himself out there, began to shed a bit more light, whether that confirms he’s what most of us thought or actually doing what he genuinely has the resource and experience to everyone will have their opinion. I think there is room for fronting up to a tougher crowd, challenge him more on some of those closed responses but this is a start for more open dialogue and connection. Fingers crossed, and hope it’s not a ‘phew that’s out the way, I think I got away with it’ approach. Come talk to us Daniel, let the guard down, you might be surprised by the reaction.

Whether it’s the strategy and vision of the club, managerial decisions, player acquisition or sale, connecting the fans with the club, leading the mentality to drive change, it all sits with him. There we have it.

We can visit every topic in this forum, the discussion will always route itself back to him in either his past decision making, or our lack of faith in him making future decisions with a clear and focussed aim at creating a successful team. Who has any confidence (not hope) we won’t be here time and time again. And there the story ends. His track record is there, leopards don’t change their spots.

In creating a robust company , he is killing the football club and it’s fabric, sucking the soul out of it. We are all held hostage to Levy.

If only we could imagine him focussing on the fine detail of the squad and coaching group like he did meticulously over the stadium build. He remarks on the stadium so proudly, his eyes light up and dare I say he does look and sounds emotional about it. Where’s that same emotion and focus in the team. Imagine him one day pointing towards a team photo that won a few things, and turning to the camera saying I’m so proud of what we built in that team, we left no stone unturned and we’ll cherish those trophies forevermore. What a dreamer I am.

"We want him to do more interviews!"

"Why's he doing this interview?!"

Granted I haven't watched/listened yet, but him actually going on camera isn't something to beat him with. Especially if you want him to be more public and transparent. The guy actually cannot win with some of you.

You're getting worked up over the comment of one single poster.
