Right but Sky didn't favour us in the title run in with Leicester for example.

These journos are just hacks who happened to be employed by Sky giving their opinions. I don't see an agenda to keep the status quo, they're more likely to push Poch to Utd because it's a story which everyone is interested in in purely for clicks and revenue.

Same reason why they're shown more than others because they're a giant team with the most fans around the world so everything and everyone will be focused on them.

It's all a bit paranoid tin foil hat wearing Spurs fans thinking that everyone is out to get us. The media don't give a shit about us in that respect, they're not trying to distsblise Spurs - the truth is that we're currently not as big as the other clubs so they don't take us seriously.
Actually over the last few years I’ve seen us getting more and more attention in the press, so the shift in power is certainly changing. I think we just need to win a major trophy to cement ourselves as a big club like City and Utd.

As a supporter since 1951 I have been at or watched on tv all but two of our major trophies and for me it is not cup finals that I mostly remember it is individual matches that are imbeded in my memory for ever.
If you were to ask me about the six FA cup finals I have been to or the four league cup finals I have been to or indeed any final in three europewins we had and the two league titles .I can honestly say most of the finals pass me by in terms of memory except the Man City replay and the Chelsea league cup win .
The 1951 league win I was 7 years old and don't remember much but of course 1961 league win is almost like yesterday .
What I remember most is certain matches I was at like 13-2 against crewe and how Tommy Harmer seemed to glide over the muddiest pitch you could see. Bills first game against Everton 10-2.
The battle of Britain in the sixties Spurs5 Rangers2.
In the same era 5-0 verse Sunderland.
In 1953 the cup semi final against eventual winners Blackpool when Bailly was injured and played on the wing ;no subs then.
The Gornik match.
The Milan game when Perryman scored two goals.
The Bale game verses Inter Milan.
The night we beat Bayern Munich in the euro cup.
The win against Real Madrid .
The Gazza semi final against Arsenal.
There are many many more individual match memories imbeded in my brain and this is a roundabout way of saying that Danny Blanchflower was right because all these games and many more had a smell of glory about them and they will stay with me till the day I die.
All the finals we were in were mostly forgettable.
And so for me lets keep getting to the top four and pile on the memories because any cup wins will take care of themselves.
My sons to this day say that having seen one FA cup win and two league cup wins that the best day of their lives was the semi final where Gazza scored that free kick..
The game is about glory not silverware

Time to spend some money Dan...

I'm sure some will read this as Poch calling out Levy, but I don't. There is clearly a plan to become a big team, which involves making big team money, through the CL and the new stadium, and spending big team money. We aren't quite at that final phase yet, as the stadium is not complete. But we are starting to spend more, through the higher salaries given to Kane et al. this summer. At some point, because our squad is so good, improving it will require spending big money in the transfer market. However, we do not yet have the financial wherewithal to spend big money on anyone other than a sure thing. The question is how far off is the "future" of which Poch speaks.

I think money for players is the main thing that would stop Poch leaving any time soon. There’s only a certain amount of times we can get so near without reaching the final level needed. If we were taken over by a sugar daddy, I’m certain he’d stay for years and years and would still only buy when necessary as opposed to someone like Pep or Jose who buy for fun.

Once our stadium is completed and assuming we get CL football, we’re just as attractive as almost anyone. It’s just about the money.

I started a thread a while back asking how people would feel about a sugar daddy buying us and the vast majority said they didn’t want that at any cost, some saying even if it meant losing Poch and going back to the way we were in the 90’s. I wonder if we have another nearly season followed by Poch leaving, would people still feel the same?

I love the odd outstanding moment, like a record away win in the cup, smashing Utd and Chelsea, Madrid, Dortmund, Inter etc but we do seem to fall short when it matters, and a lot of that has to do with the squad strength. No one can take away from me what I saw with my own eyes in our last season at WHL where we won all our games bar 2 draws. Amazing. But we need trophies to show how great we really are. And when we look back on our history in this period, it’s not quite the same telling our grandkids that we were a nearly team instead of showing the stats on wiki stating we won this and that etc... I know money doesn’t guarantee trophies, but it obviously helps - See Chelsea, City and now Liverpool.

So while I understand the romantics of wanting to do it the right way, which would be awesome, I still really want shitloads of money injected into my team. Poch has been hinting at this for a while too. It’s nice to breed youngsters but it’s also nice to be in with a shout of buying the world’s top players. Something does need to change, even if we win something - we need to compete regularly. If we somehow manage to win the league this year, I think it’ll actually be easier for star players to leave as they may think they’ve ‘done it’ here and want to try somewhere else. It’ll be much harder for them to leave if we double their current wages to match the other top clubs.

Just my take on it.

Some key quotes from this:

"I need to be honest," Pochettino said. "I want to win the Premier League. The players and Jesus [Perez, assistant manager] want to win the Premier League or Champions League or a trophy.

"But if we want to win titles we need to operate in a different way. At the moment we operate in the same way as we operated five years ago when we arrived. Of course, maybe we can win some titles but it’s going to be a tough job because in that situation every club in the last five years was improving a lot."

There's more, but the message is very clear.

EDIT: Additional quotes for what it's worth:

"You need to refresh the squad, you need to add quality," he said. "Sometimes you need refresh, all the teams are trying to improve. You cannot keep the same squad for five years. It is going to be difficult to find the motivation, to find the way to work.

"Some players after five years will have the same desire to work with you like the first day, but some players after one season need a different challenge, a different voice, they need to move. That is why for us it it a fantastic thing that we didn't sign [in the summer] but kept the squad motivated – 95 per cent of the squad is so happy, happy with the rules and you can feel that. We will see if we can stay for a long, long way like this. I think no, but in football a lot can happen."

It’s as clear as day just as his being brave quotes were but I’m sure the Levy apologists will make up some notion that what he is saying actually means something completely different.

Another way of looking at this is we didn't buy anyone in the summer because of the fact that we've upped the wages of players.
Obviously the stadium takes its toll, but it funny how the year after we up wages, we fail to buy anyone!
Maybe I'm looking too much into it

Remember Duncan Castles reckons that there will be a change in transfer policy this year....levy intends to rein back and spend even less!!!

It was interesting what he said near the end of the conference... essentially that his job when he first arrived was to have a team capable of getting into the CL by the time the new stadium opened. He understands why there are questions from the media and fans about winning trophies, but those questions are only relevant because he's got the team way ahead of schedule on the pitch.

It's fairly obvious that we need to increase player spending (both in terms of wages and transfers) but just because we are progressing so quickly on the pitch doesn't mean that all the money needs to be spent immediately in the way that a 9-year-old kid would do on a Playstation. There's a plan in place and as much as you might hate it that's how the board are going to progress with things.

Everybody is welcome to be miserable about life though. (y)

Those quotes are pretty crystal clear. Either back me and spend some money or I’m off.

The problem we have is levy or ENIC won’t change especially if they are looking to sell. We have the coach to win the league but he needs to be properly backed.

We all know how this will end.
United will back him to win the league. Levy won’t back him.

It’s also worrying where he says he doesn’t think we can stay competitive over the next 5 years without significant spending. He’s right, I don’t think we can. He is sending so many signals to Levy to change but I doubt it will happen.

It’s frustrating. It’s like Levy wasn’t prepared for us to challenge for the title as we are ahead of schedule but Levy won’t react to our progress, he’s just keeping the same strategy as we had when we were trying to get into the top 4.

“At the moment, it’s fantastic – so far so good – but we’ll see if it’s enough to challenge and be consistent in the next five years operating in that way; if we’re capable to fight with the big sides in the same way that we’ve fought [with them] in the last four or five years.
“One thing is to reduce the gap with the top four, to be competitive, to create a team capable of fighting with the big sides. But after, if we want to win titles, we need to operate in a different way. At the moment, we operate in the same way that we operated when we arrived. Maybe we can win some titles but it’s going to be a tough job because every club in the last five years has improved a lot.”

He's also talking about the next 5 years... So a bit more context than the initial sensationalist headlines and selective quotes.

I have seen the PA embargoed stuff for tomorrow's papers. Let's just say it makes for very good reading for us Spurs fans where Pochettino is concerned. He's going nowhere from what I can ascertain. His quotes from the print presser will be available from10.30 tonight.

And Poch is totally correct. You need 1 or 2 new players every season to freshen tings up and improve. And to improve our squad you need to either unearth real gems or spend money. I think all he wants to hear Levy promise is that the extra revenue from the CL and the new stadium will be invested in the team moving forwards.
