In the interview she explicitly said Poch's end of season comments weren't about spending huge amounts of money.

We can finally put that to bed!

Dude, it was a joke. Chill out
I'm perfectly chill, it just gets where so many people say it and people believe it but it just isn't true. If we sign Luke Shaw there are people who will legitimately think that we signed a fat LB. Just as everyone slagged off Shaqiri for being fat when Pool signed him.

The spin has begun from Cullen then. So fucking predictable. Big predictions from the ITK guys and then a gradual wheeling back as all of the targets prove out of our reach and Cullen comes out with "we always wanted to work with our youth team anyway". Rinse, repeat. As soon as a major job comes up, Poch is gonna be on his way after this shit show of a window. So disappointing.

Pathetic wheeling Donna Cullen out to rewrite history. Pathetic effort.

Our Chairman is the highest paid Director in the Premier League. For £6 million a year you'd assume his duties would extend to media interviews.

Some interesting quotes from Donna Cullen on Poch:

“Mauricio is relaxed,” Cullen said. “There was a misinterpretation of his comments. He would say what he said was not about going out and spending money.”

Perhaps 'being brave' means trusting the process, putting faith in the players we have and not panic buying at the last knockings?

Ha ha perhaps our director of communications didn't like that quote too much and is revising it for him...

She wasn't "wheeled out" anywhere. She was asked at a charity event.

According to Dan Kilpatrick, writer of The Standard piece, she also said "but you'll have to ask Mauricio" on the being brave comment. He said the press staff over there have opportunities coming up to ask him that are better than post match interviews which is all they've had so far and they will ask him to respond then.

Did anyone think that he ever meant being brave equated to spending huge money? I always felt that he meant trying to get incomings and outgoings done quicker so that the new players could get bedded in.

They shouldn't do because he explicitely says in the "Being brave" comments that it doesn't mean spending crazy money. People never seem to remember that part of the quote though:

"We are thinking now we need to make our new stadium home and we know it will be tough in the beginning to settle there," he told a post-match news conference."

"I have a very clear idea of what we need to do. I don't know if the club will agree with me or not, but we are going to talk next week to create what I think we need to do together to improve."

"Until today it was so difficult to talk about the future, but from now we need to decide the way and how we are going to operate in the future."

"Our fans need to know what we are going to do and our fans need to feel the reality of the club and we need to tell the truth and create a very good expectation we can achieve. We cannot create dreams that we are not going to achieve."

"The first step is to be close and challenge the sides who invest more than us and find a way. We need to think our reality is different and our fans need to think and be happy and support us because we are not a club who will spend crazy money."

"I think Daniel is going to listen to me, but you know sometimes I might have some crazy ideas. With our unbelievable fans, sometimes you need to be brave and take risks. I think the club is in a moment where they need to take risks."

If what MoPo really wanted as a manager is a lot of big money, big name signings, he already would have left for Chelsea or RM or any other club that actually does that sort of thing.

If we sign no one he’ll be disappointed, and so will we all. But we won’t sign no one. So buckle up cuz the real show is starting.
