Angelino would be an excellent signing. Him and Gvardiol on the left would be a dream come true.

If we sign only those two, we could live with Doherty (backup Emerson) on the right, and it would still be transformational.

Was never sold on him at City but he's been fantastic for Leipzig. Maybe just didnt get a true run of games.

I can totally see why we’d be interested in laimer as he looks impressive both visually and statistically but I’m less convinced by grillitsch. More so, I don’t get why no one else has gone for him in the last couple of seasons. If he’s been bossing it in the bundesliga at hoffenheim then it’s not like a PL club (or just a bigger German club) wouldn’t have been able to buy him at a good price. So what’s been missed with him? Is there anything he is lacking that these (impressive) stats don’t reveal?

Great question! I will defer to the man himself

Hoffenheim midfielder Florian Grillitsch was touted for a move to Italy during the summer transfer window, but a deal never materialized.

According to Grillitsch, the stumbling block was the price Hoffenheim demanded for him.

"There were some interested parties from Italy, and there were concrete negotiations," said the 26-year-old after Austria's 2-0 win over Moldova on Wednesday.

"But Hoffenheim's demands were too high in the end, that's why it didn't work out," added Grillitsch, who is out of contract next summer.

"It's like this now, I can't change it. Now I'll stay at Hoffenheim for another year, I'll fulfill my contract and I think I'll make the next step in the summer."

Refusing to play to try to force through a move was never an option for the midfielder.

"I didn't want go on strike, I'm not the type for that."

I also recall that previously, Tottenham was linked to signing him, even as far back as 2018.

He's not the flashiest of players but his reading of the game, versatility and ability to stay calm in high pressure situations, make him a really dependable player.

Well if we are in the market for a German based Florian midfielder, we really need to look at Florian Neuhaus.
Really great passer of the ball. Moves the ball quickly. Chips in with goals and assists.
Valued at 22m Euro on transfer market. Would compliment us beautifully.

Don't see much point in buying Philipps - he's not miles ahead of Skipp and would be expensive

Dybala isn't coming to be a back up to Deki

Modric would be a dream
When you’re playing the high intensity style of football that Conte demands and you have 2 games per week then it’s not about back up it’s about rotation.

Makes sense, but even in that scenario, I reckon there are better options ie better players, or better value for money - than Philipps

I agree, however there’s something to be said for his PL experience and he is home grown. I was actually replying to Dybala over Deki though - if we can get Dybala then both players would end up getting loads of time so don’t see any issue there.

Today was a timely reminder that the squad still needs a lot of work. We need upgrades at wing back on both sides, a top quality CM, and more options up top. I would say 6 decent signings ontop of Romero and Deki would put us in the mix next season. Unlikely to happen but maybe a couple of freebies will allow us to do something close to that.

Yep, look at Chelsea and Liverpool… they’ve huge squads and have mastered the art of rotation and consistency. If we finish in the top 4, we don’t just need 1 in 1 out x 4/5, we also need to add quality additional players over and above those who leave as our bench leaves a lot to be desired.

The amount of times the ball was cut square to Hojbjerg and someone would make a run down the wing, just for him to turn back and go square again or something, just annoyed the bollox off me! Even Bentancur wasn’t trying the difficult passes. So, I’d say we do need another quality CM, someone who can pass. It’s why Eriksen was so important to us, because he would play those passes, or he’d put the ball in the box right on someone’s head. We need someone to play those balls, take chances, and with quality. It’s something we’re severely lacking if Kane is not on it.

There will always be players who are better value than HG prem-players, but as some have mentioned previously, if we stretch that too far that will impact the overall squad size.
Kalvin suits the way we play and is by all accounts at the appropriate level as well.

However, I do agree that we likely will and should look at other positions before we splurge +50m on a rotational CM.

Absolutely. I know this is a wishlist thread so certainly some fanciful input but we don't need a huge amount to improve upon some of our options. Particularly off the bench.

The key things we seemed to lack against a very organised Brighton team:

- A player who has the quality to sometimes try something different (we have a couple of these but when they're not at the races or are nullified, what options do we have in CM/WB for example?)
- Players off the bench who can either provide a different option in terms of formation or can provide better impact within the existing line-up.

I know we have a few injuries but you look at that bench on Saturday and the changes made and it's very uninspiring. For his magic moments, Moura just isn't effective enough. Bergwijn just doesn't look happy/likely to progress with us in my opinion, like LM, consistency is a massive issue.

When they're the attacking changes, it's no surprise it didn't (and doesn't regularly) change the game.

We have quite a lot of these types of positional issues and players we can clearly improve upon without breaking the bank.

This guy is pure silk. One of those players that is just so aesthetically pleasing to watch on the ball. I’m sure with my love of Dembele this guy would go right to the top of my list as my favourite player if we signed him

My must keep list is Lloris, Dier, Romero, Davies, Doherty, Skipp, Gil, Sarr, Bents, Kulusevski, Kane, Son, Scarlett, Parrott, Etete etc and I would love to keep Stevie but I think he will be off. If we can upgrade on Hojbjerg then do it but otherwise keep him.

I'd agree with that, although I think upgrading PEH on top of all the other business we have to do will be a step too far.

There's also a big decision to make with Harry Kane, who has 2 years left on his contract.

If he tells the club that he's not going to resign and instead see the 2 years out, then this summer will be the last time we can get a good fee for him.

If, on the other hand, he decides to resign and essentially see out his career at the club, then happy days.

I think the worse-case scenario is that he doesn't resign and there aren't any suitors for him either.

Just keep Kane regardless. A lot can change in two years.
