This petition is trying to get govt to keep golf courses open, in some way or form, following yesterday’s announcements

Have they said golf is off limits?

Edit: cancel that; I've seen that they have.

We have similar over here in Ireland. Meanwhile GAA/Rugby/contact sport is allowed to continue.

Its ridiculous. You can go outside and exercise or meet with one other person from another household...just not on a golf course?!

Two balls only, clubhouse shut (bar toliets) and 10 minute staggered tee times is more than safe. Apparently there is talk that the government are going to amend the latest rules to allow golf, tennis and swimming as these are social distanced sports ?

Fucking hell, just anyone but DeChambeau the ****.

Genuine question, why does everyone hate DeChambeau so much?

Seems like a lot of purists dislike the fact that he's turning the sport into a "science" and think that just trying to hit the ball as far as possible isn't in the spirit of the game. Which I find a bit odd, personally. At the US Open he had a very low FIR% yet still won by a distance, which suggests he's pretty good at the rest of the game too...

It's to do with his personality, he's a genuinely dislikable guy, personally couldn't care less about how far he hits it or trying to win though turning it into a science. But stuff like trying to claim relief from a "nest of ants" just makes him a ****. He's very unpopular on tour as well, and most of his fellow pro's don't hold back when saying it. Similar to Patrick Reed in that regard, improving lies etc.

Not that Bryson cares what anyone thinks obviously.

I know he is the fav but I think he'll win this week too, ground will be soft so will suit long hitters like him and his putting is very good.

I have 50 EW on him at 8/1 and also 10 EW on Tony Finau at 25/1

Fair enough, I don't follow the Tour religiously outside of the Majors so don't know that much about him as a person. Just seen a lot of other pros saying words to the effect of "it's just not golf" about his long hitting, and feel like there's more than a hint of jealousy there. If there's a problem with long hitting its up to the rulemakers or course designers to tackle it, not the player's fault.

I think you're right, but I admit I'm firmly in the camp that doesn't like his approach to the game; whack it as hard as you can, making most course design irrelevant, then dig it out from wherever it's ended up. I prefer to see course management, shaping shots, manoeuvring the ball, using the lay of the land (all the stuff I can't do!)

It's like tennis for me; Djokovic and or Nadal will surpass Federer's total of 'Slam' tournament wins, but for me Federer's artistry will always trump Nadal's raw power and Djokovic's (albeit superbly athletic) mechanical shot repetition when it comes to defining the Greatest.

Yeah agreed on the course designers thing. I think the whole thing about how far he hits it would go away if his fellow pro's liked him, but as they don't then none of them hold back. I for one don't have an issue with him monstering the ball, it's quite entertaining, he's just such a **** of a bloke and that's what I don't like.

Very important point that and it's what happened at the US Open. As @Teemu rightly pointed out, his FIR was quite poor, but it's a lot easier to hit a wedge out of the rough than it is a 7i, which even us mere mortals know.

True, but...is it also true that round Augusta they cant use those god awful "green books" which he studies for about 5 minutes before every putt? For me that's the only thing that means he might not win.

Especially that thick stuff they always seem to have next to the Ladies' tee ... :(

I was thinking John Rahm the other day, just been on Paddy and he’s 66-1! Having seen the odds on a few of them I think I might have to do a couple of E/W’s!
