Watched the start and then the last 5 laps.... Think I missed all the boring stuff in the middle. Got to love those last few laps

Well done Ferrari, Leclerc drove brilliantly as well, but after watching drive to survive and the Christian and Geri show have no respect for them at all

I’ve stopped watching after the fix at the end of last season, but my little boy has just shouted that Verstappen has had to retire and Perez went spinning, which has given me a smile.

Loving the salty orange tears. Brilliant end to the race and of course the mighty team LH grabbing an unlikely podium has put a huge grin on my face.

If the Mercs can sort out the aero problems they should speed up accordingly and we will have one hell of a season.

Great opening race. Glad to see Ferrari 1 & 2, and nice to see Redbull shooting a blank as well.
Mercedes really need to pull their finger out and sort the cars out.

Just pretty disheartening that a big reason for this regulation shift was to disperse the breakaway teams (like Mercedes and Red Bull)… and despite qualifying looking so promising for teams like Haas and Alfa, that’s evidently not happened as Mercedes in 5th place are currently 16 seconds off of 4th and 36 seconds off of the race leader!
Maybe I spoke on this too soon…. 3 out of 4 Red Bull cars retiring late in the race. Suggests they have some pretty significant issues.

Yeah when Max was complaining near the end about battery , his mechanic bloke was saying ‘we know what the problem is and it isn’t battery’...he obviously didn’t want to say ‘our engines are dying’ over the radio :ROFLMAO:

Expected more retirements but it was a shame to see the Red Bulls die like they did as they're the only ones who look close to matching the Ferrari's pace - definitely a concern there, but it seems odd that it wasn't something that came up in practice. I wonder if it's software related and the race-day presets have gone to shit or something?

Kevin looked like he was having an absolute ball out there, there was zero pressure on him to perform and he's absolutely shone - that Haas car has more in it than I expected, just needed a better driver it seems. McLaren & Williams both looked really out of sorts, but honourable mentions to Ocon & Bottas, pacing it well after weak starts. Fun race, be interesting to see what sort of overtime hours RB and Merc put in before the next one. The Merc doesn't seem far off but still a long way to go.

I would say on the Merc side of things - pretty bleak day for the Mercedes engines, aside from the works team itself.

McLaren look to be in real trouble. Williams have the rear locked up, and Aston Martin are not much ahead of them.

Karma really is a bitch. Those DNFs could not have happened to a nicer team :ROFLMAO: I expect RB to come back fighting though in the next race. Max is a crybaby though, bitching at his team over the radio when they told him to chill on his out lap

Just caught up on the race, the Merc engine looks like an absolute dog - the customer teams all at the back, and Hamilton was struggling to pass the Haas with DRS at one point.

Absolutely loved the RBs dropping dead right in the last few laps though, made my day! Must be concerning having the main team drop dead, and one of the Alphas catch fire. Something not right there by the look of it.

Ferrari seem to have got their engine sorted this time out, the works car looks really good. Is it only Haas that runs their engine as a customer or am I forgetting someone?

Still a shame the field overall hasn't closed up. The aero changes do look like they're allowing cars to follow more closely, but it seems like it's nerfed slipstreaming though so overtaking seems more difficult outside of DRS.

One of the things that got lost in all of the excitement today - FIA introduced new guidelines on overtaking.

Overtaking on the inside

The new guidelines dictate that a driver being overtaken must give "sufficient room to an overtaking car" if "a significant portion" is alongside.

The overtaking manoeuvre must be done "in a safe and controlled manner, while enabling the car to remain within the limits of the track".

The rules do not explicitly define what "a significant portion" of a car means, but they say that "among the various factors that will be looked at by the stewards… they will consider if the overtaking car's front tyres are alongside the other car by no later than the apex of the corner".

Overtaking on the outside

The same rules apply for overtaking on the outside. The FIA says that the requirement for a driver being overtaken to give "sufficient room" becomes active when "a significant portion" of the attacking car is alongside, with the same requirement for the manoeuvre to be safe and controlled.

The definition of "significant portion" again remains not precise but it does define that one factor considered will be "if the overtaking car is ahead of the other car from the apex of the corner".

It adds: "The car being overtaken must be capable of making the corner while remaining within the limits of the track."
