The key part to all of this is that Ange has sanctioned both players leaving the club. If he’s happy with it, I am.

It's not that simple though is it?

He also specifically stated the need for another CB in a press conference.

He then doesn't get one because the club refused to act with Dier / Sanchez here.

So his best chance of getting his CB in Jan is sanctioning a departure.

He's used Sanchez already so can't be his ideal choice.

It's what the club want to do for the money.

The risk of missing out on the CL and the potential for dropping points without Romero / VDV surely is far more important - and financially significant than any fee.

We threw away the luxury of recouping a fee when we refused to by a CB with the proceeds of our best every player.

That in itself was inexcusable.

To then immediately take a needless risk with our season like this is pure negligence from Levy.

Phillips and Dorrington are fantastic prospects. I've been executed about both for years.

But nobody knows how they will perform in front of big away crowds, especially after a bad mistake.

Forcing them to play through bad form because we have nobody else is absolutely not how you look after a young defenders' development.

Fans are getting carried away because we had a good start.

We've gone from IT MUST be Tapsoba + VDV or we riot....to oh maybe Davies can put in a shift if we're stuck.

Pure madness.
Without knowing how Phillips and Dorrington are performing in training I would absolutely agree with this line of thinking and have expressed thoughts along these lines since the window closed and the links between Galatasaray and Sanchez surfaced.

However, with Ally Gold reporting that Ange has sanctioned these moves, it's at least worth considering that he may well think that Phillips is capable of serving as third choice between now and January.

If Ange thinks Phillips is ready to be a full-fledged member of the first team, the calculus is quite different.

As I posted mid way through last week, it's my understanding he didn't ask for any of those we got in specifically. He told our player identification bods what he wanted, what skill sets they needed, and then they came up with a shortlist which he either yay or neighed. Now he may well have then put them into an order of preference following being given that list, but I'm very confident he didn't make any actual requests for players. FWIU Maddison is a slight exception in that I believe he was pretty much nailed on to come anyway before Ange was appointed and we were just waiting for whomever came in to green light it, which it obviously was.

Ange pretty much confirmed all this in his press conference prior to Burnley.
So why have he gone into all this trouble to make presentations and speak directly to players, this is doesn’t make sense at all. AccordIng to Maddison and Solomon he spoke directly to them prior signing. Ange is his own man the sooner ppl realise that the better

We all know the money for Sanchez will be lost like the Kane money come January. So we better hope Phillps is up for the challenge if needed.
Yet again Levy knows zero about the footballing side. If he had any idea Sanchez will be leaving...... which i would guess he had why not buy hefore the deadline. One big reason why MONEY !

I didn't know that I knew this. Thank you.

If that were truly the case why did he sign off on bidding for senior CBs at all 2 days ago?

Has he completely changed his mind in 48 hours?

My point is there is a huge difference between Ange signing off on something because it's the only way he can what he wants in Jan - and this being Ange's preferred course of action.

Which by his own public words, was to sign another CB.

If Phillips is out performing Sanchez, brilliant - keep Dav until January as 4th choice. If Phillips plays as injury cover and has a stinker you're not forced to keep putting him in and destroying the kids confidence.

Experienced defenders can bounce back from high profile mistakes quicker.

There's just absolutely no sporting reason nor financial need to do this imo.

Let's hope it doesn't cost us.

If Ange wasn't fussed about losing Kane, and not bringing in another striker, I doubt he will be fussed about losing Sanchez without bringing in another CB.

How about we'll let Sanchez go
1, because he wants to go
2, because we have cover in Eric Dier
3, because we rate the youngsters enough to cover.
4, because we will bring in a CB in January and think we can weather any difficulty in the mean time.
With one game a week it is vaguely feasible we won't need cover.

how about maybe we the fans treated him like pariah, scapegoat and he chosen to walk away, I can’t blame him.

Let's face it - no non-league matches until January. We need a leaner squad now, and can reassess in January.

I expect we might even see a few more outs in January.

Totally fine with Sanchez going. His performances were that his introduction to the team was a big detriment anyway. Sure Phillips, Davies, maybe Dorrington and even Emerson or PEH could fill in if we’re desperate. The longer term rebuild is the most important thing right now and if we can move unwanted players we should be no matter what.

If getting the two gone now sets us up to actually buy the players we need in January I think it's worth the risk. And if selling them Sanchez has any influence in them taking N'Dombele off our hands it's even more worth it. I actually think Emerson might be pretty great as an RCB in Ange's system.

So everyone wants us to integrate youth players into the squad more because we're wasting our academy, but then when we make a move that is potentially showing trust in the prospects we have on the fringes, we don't want to do it?

I remember when we bought Dele it was "he'll be ready to take the next step in a year or so" and by midyear he had forced his way into the starting XI.

We'll learn a lot more about what we have with Phillips/Dorrington picking up minutes here and there, and if we have an injury we can reinforce in January, because we won't have Davinson on the books.

Maybe this 15m allows us to push for a player that was a bit out of our price range in the summer, too.

says a lot that 3 players Lloris, Dier and Hojbjerg who were on the "leadership committee" previously would rather sit around collecting a wage than find football elsewhere. no wonder we have been a shit show with leaders like that involved. luckily the contracts of most of the worst deadwood are all up next summer. Maybe a few months of no football will convince them to exit sharpish in January and we can kick on again. It was never going to happen in one window but players choosing high wages and our nice comfortable training ground surroundings over playing games being the reason we couldnt strengthen more is very frustrating.
That’s such a valid point and one that I think has been alluded to on a few occasions by one of our ITKs

Yet it appears that Ange ok'ed this.

Must admit I'm slightly shocked as we look so so light at the back but you know what, all about the Angetrain, if it's ok with him, it's ok with me.

We have seven matches in 28 days in December. I’m not loving the prospect of weathering that with our CBs.

I think there is a huge difference in giving attacking players a shot than defenders.
