I would argue you are under selling him, he's better than a lot of our supporters realise and when our new wide man and he get on the same wavelength the brilliant balls he plays in behind the opposition full-back will be a constant threat for opposing teams.

Townsend doesn't read them, Lamela, if he plays there, will appreciate the grasp it quicker and benefit from them.
So lots of our supporters don't realise it but YOU do! Must be nice to have such superior knowledge! He gets caught out of position so often it's painful, but I'm only one of the supporters that go every week! What would I know? Ill leave the rest to the people that 'see' what's really happening...

I'd like to say a big thank you to all the SC ITK's.

Thanks for putting your neck on the line. Without your info we would be relying on SSN and that would have been devastating.

In no particular order:
- great work A&C, Rob, ITKs et al.
- amazing window, ecstatic with the signings and as excited as ever to be a Spurs fan
- hate Chelsea and that Kia chump more than ever. Think the devil has shares in that team
- not sure loaning BAE makes any sense
- cant wait for the new guys to find their feet
- most over used word: "gel"

Agree with the above, as well as:-
-Hate Sky Sports so much I may cancel and just stream matches
-Real Madrid are ****s
-I hate the business but love the shirt

Beside the stupidity from Arse claiming it was Wengers brilliant mind that got us Lamela, This has been almost a perfect TW window for us. We have bought smart and we are clearly much stronger then last year. Cant wait to enjoy rest of the season..COYS

Sorry what? Explain please I must have missed something regarding the Lamela transfer :)

Their fans spammed down every social media after they bought that dude, with something like;

"Wenger sold Gervinho to Roma so Lamela could join Spurs which allowed Bale to go to Madrid so Arsenal could sign Ozil " and hashtagged it #WengerKnows

Great great window. In May the thought of selling Bale would´ve had me panicked, but the sale (even though it hurts) has payed for a massive upgrade of the team. We now have double cover (triple if we include players out of position with some versatility) for practically every position. As arse-fans were commenting after Tbilisi - our squad is perhaps the strongest in the league together with chavskij and shitty. Our starting eleven might not be up to scratch yet, but I´m confident that the Chavskij-match will be nothing like the arse game. The players will have gelled and the team will be balanced and our boys will have a real shot at winning (I´d say favourites).

When it comes to our pal Kia and his victim Willian - I´m not that bothered. Consider Eriksen a much better buy.

A quick look at our transfers:
Paulinho - future mainstay of Brazil´s midfield together with Sandro. Will set the league alight. Incredible box to box midfielder who should work well in a double pivot with Sandro or Capoue, or as a part of a mid-three. Should score a fair amount of goals as well - we´ve all seen he´s got it in him.

Soldado - Exceptional striker - truly world class. We have already seen his famed coolness from the spot, but he seems to have added something to his game. He actually works for his teammates, something he has been criticised for not doing previously. We still haven´t seen what he can give us, though. We will, however, once the team gels and he can get some through balls.

Chadli - massive talent. Still hasn´t shown what he did in Eresdivisie, and I think he will need mroe time than most to hit his stride. Unfortunately, I believe his best position in the PL is the central role behind a striker - a position we have filled. Still done well, and will be an important part of the team. And don´t compare him to Bale - it just isn´t fair.

Capoue - what can I say? He´s given Sandro a run for his money (knowing Sandro, he will be the one encouraging Capoue to take his place. Sandro´s just that great a guy ^^). With the international break the injury shouldn´t take too big a bite out of his season either. The by far most important thing with Capoue has to do with my fingers, though. With him in the squad I´m not running the risk of major infections from nailbiting whenever Sandro goes down.

Chirik..ch..s..es Vlad - I don´t know, I really don´t. But Barca wanted him a while back, and AVB seems to believe in him. The little I´ve seen looks promising.

Lamela - OH MAH GAWD! Truly incredible. It is entertaining to read the first pages of his thread... Of all our signings, this was the most impossible one. This kid is one of the future stars of world football - his technique, vision and left foot will serve us well, and his work rate vs. arse was better than what I´ve seen in Rome (though he was clearly not settled yet). that said, we need to be patient. He has experience with expectations and a tough crowd, but this is a kid in a new league, new country, new language. Give him some time and he will be a new Bale.

Eriksen - OH MAH GAWD AGAIN! My favourite transfer this window. We´ve got speed (Rose, Lennon, Lamela, Kaboul, Walker), we´ve got muscle (Sandro, Capoue, Paulinho), we´ve got defensive finesse (Vertonghen <3), we´ve got the players with the skill to force their way past opponents (Dembele, Lamela, Paulinho), and we´ve got the strikers (Soldado, Defoe). The one thing we truly lack, or should I say lacked, was that clinical picker of passes, the one woth the vision. Now, with Holtby back, we´ve got two - one of them who in my mind will turn out to be one of the great footballers of his generation.

The Eriksen paragraph in many ways sums up the window, but there´s one thing +d like to add. Of the top ten players aged 18-22 most likely to be world class - we just signed two.

The Cryptic that never was: What with all the negativity, plus because I thought it was just so outreageous, I decided not to post the cryptic at all and having not posted it, there's little point in giving the solution, it'll only invite more angst and possibly provoke a few more cynical people into having a pop. We've got enough depressives in here as it is.

I think we've calmed down enough to let us know now. I get what you're saying and it may invite people to have a pop, but you have to admit the masses have been teased a little this summer with ambiguous grenades being dropped with little clarification causing people to lose their sh*t.

As soon as all this "jaw dropping" business was included in the RO its only fair to let us know who the player was now the window is shut.

To all those who are considering using this thread to moan about how we've broken even, and not used the rumoured Joe Lewis £50m loan money, please consider the following. (It's okay - it's not rocket science.)

At the start of the summer it was decided that we wanted to buy good (ie expensive) players, so the £50m was agreed on the assumption that Bale wouldn't be leaving. As it became clear that Bale would be leaving, the spending on players doubled and the size of the Bale fee meant that the £50m didn't have to be used, thereby not giving the club additional debt or clogging up borrowing capacity which will be needed for the stadium.

I believe that's called a win-win.

Well I think we had a good window but I don't follow the above logic. Surely before any window the club have earmarked a budget so that they can upgrade areas that needed it. Given we were supposedly close to tying up both Leandro and Moutinho then you would assume there was a sizeable kitty already. Add to that the windfall TV increases and the fact that this is the last season before FFP really kicks in then you would assume we had earmarked a significant amount of that to boost the kitty.

At that point we were supposedly not thinking of selling Bale and there was rumours of Lewis providing a further £50 mill loan if needed to build a strong squad capable of challenging

Even if you assume we had a kitty of £30 mill rather than the presumably £40 odd mill we were prepared to spend on Moutinho and Leandro and earmarked just £20 mill from the TV windfall that's £50 mill kitty regardless of any loans.

Allowing we had that and hadn't expected Bale to move, then the sale of Bale itself logically should have necessitated reinvestment of that money to offset his loss to the team in addition to the £50 mill we put aside

So we have not only not used the loan, but we have not used any TV money, nor any transfer kitty. That's all fine and dandy except that our team strengthening is still lacking in a few key areas. Now you can't always get every plater you want in a window and there's no point in simply signing players to make up numbers, but if we are truly trying to build a team to challenge for the title then we should expect the buying to continue in January with Full backs, left winger/attacker and another striker very much on the agenda

Was Sunday night as I recall, people were trying to guess who it could be and you kept locking the thread. Don't think you ever have the cryptic in the end though. May be wrong though.
Yeah, you're wrong all right. On every count too i'm afraid. You're suggesting that I locked the thread because people were guessing a cryptic that you're also complaining was never given?

People were filling the thread with guesses on a post that was NOT cryptic and the thread was locked briefly a couple of times in order to let that message sink in. Over an hour later The Goat came back and then suggested that he would post a cryptic.

I think you've massively misunderstood what went on that night.

EDIT: Oh and I had a cryptic all right........

We have bought talented youth with potential and a couple of really solid ready now players and some good depth players. So all in all a good window, but losing Bale a proven match winner is a blow and the match against Arsenal showed that. Whilst these players take that time to gel we are vulnerable to teams who park the bus and counter, safe in the knowledge that we don't as yet have an explosive player who can do the impossible. We might get that out of Eriksen and Lamela, but we might equally not.

The money "saved" you would hope, goes into the kitty for the stadium, but until I see diggers on site and actively working I shall again remain on the fence...

This has the potential of having been a great window, one where we look back from lofty heights at here it started... BUT the road is only just starting and there is a long way to go.

Manchester United had the poorest window, though Arsenal signed a player they didn't really need, BUT is still a real marquee signing and will keep the wolves at bay. Same likely can't be said for Moyes.

Good luck to Rose, he is going to need it from the bitter brigade in here, he is OUR Left Back and needs our support. Yes I have concerns, but the window is shut, so time for us to shut up and put faith and hope and support into ALL our players and do what we can until January and see where we are then.

Lastly, thanks to the Mods, to the ITK'ers (Happy retirement JJ), to the Hunter/Gatherer's (or ITK' whores) and to all those reasonable commenting people on here that make this such a great place...

To all you spammers, learn the rules for the next window eh!! (y)

You mean 7 great players, right? Or are you discarding 2 of the 7?

I think 5 is a reasonable comment at this stage, the five have proven themselves, Chiriches is pretty unknown to most people, I watch a lot of foreign games but I have never heard of him, not saying I know every player around but how many Spurs fans can honestly say they have seen him lets say more than 5 games? Unless they have how can they suggest he's a great player
Chadli others might have different opinions of course but to me he was just a useful squad addition, nowhere near great, maybe can develop in time, I'm still scratching my head as to why we didn't sign Dusan Tadic instead, but either way Chadli has it all to prove to be described as a great signing imo
The others have all to various degrees proven themselves even if they still have to do it in the PL, so overall 5 signings where we have pretty proven quality players that we should expect to be excellent additions and two signings we simply hope will be

I have to say that I'm very happy with us keeping Defoe, Ade, Lennon and Gylfi. They are still experienced quality players who will be a huge asset to our reshaped team IMO.

I've got big hopes for Ade in particular, I really really hope that he overcomes his personal issues and thrives like he did two seasons ago.

I a very pleased with our business, it was a great window and getting Lamela was the cherry on top. So looking forward to seeing this kid develop in a Spurs shirt. The only thing that makes this window great instead of fantastic is losing Gareth Bale. No window for any team can be fantastic when you sell a players of Bales ability regardless of price, he is irreplaceable. Am very much looking forward to seeing our new team in action, just annoying we have to wait for over a week now! COYS
