Can't go in to details but I had some info from a very good source a few weeks ago that claimed we would sign Benteke in this window. Things change, other clubs could come in but in light of this recent news, it makes a lot of sense and I was told he wanted to come here.

There is better value out there in Europe than Benteke for 25m. The club just needs to grow a pair and gamble on a player without prem experience. It's overrated anyway.

Wouldn't be a disaster, perhaps. But it wouldn't be a triumph either.

We need a striker and a creative forward/winger before the season starts, so we can hit the ground running. Poor starts have cost us recently. Let's not make the same mistake again please.

We are not a big club, we won the league when the world was black and white. In the history of the cl we've been in it once.

The money we have comes from what the fans pay. No where else. We don't shit gold and piss oil, we have to rely on people scrounging a few quid to buy a shirt every year.

That is the difference, yet their fans are not happy either.

The obvious answer to this would be Benteke, but i hope not... Might not be realistic either.

True, though it just seems a little bit weird that our options 1 and 2 would be so far apart in terms of playing style.

And I agree not realistic in my opinion, and contrary to the AVB mantra about us having to scout better and address player additions differently than the rich clubs. Benteke is exactly such a rich kid purchase.

I remember when Benteke first moved to Villa he basically hadn't even visited the city and thought Villa played in London - we can definitely offer him that!

Price quoted in that article is £7m - so £17m would offer a nice profit for Villa. i'll ignore the bit where Benteke says how he loves Arsenal

Alight fine we're not a big club, we don't have much money to spend, I get it. I'm not demanding the club goes out and spend big money, in fact I don't want that. I'm saying go out and get players that we can afford and bring them in before deadline day, well before deadline day.
