One last thread for you

If we're lucky the ITK will be along when they have a moment to pick the bones out of it.

2 big reasons why it was a good transfer window

1) lay down the marker - get on the conte train or eff off (now!)

Buying in to this sort of environment and culture will breed hunger and desire for progress and success.

which is why HUGO signed his new deal (not mentioned enough), and Kane (by most accounts) is happy to stay. They bought in!

top performers want top performing environments and culture.

so getting rid of the 3 who didn’t buy in immediately is monumental. especially when we know we have a poor track record of shifting deadwood, shifting 3 in one window, almost unheard of.

2) yes we did not get RWB nor back up CB or striker. BUT!!!

(a) Doherty only played there twice and seemed to have satisfied wat conte wants and more importantly, as suspected by many n now been confirmed by JJ, numero uno target for rwb been identified for summer after Adama deemed not ideal for role. So Doherty suffices for 18 league n 4-6 cup games.

(b) back up cb - Romero is back from injury and we now have 6 CBs for 3 starting positions. Romero Dier Davies first choice, with Tanganga Sanchez to come rotate is good enough to end season, barring injuries

(c) we thought Stevie would go, and Conte made it clear (through both words and action) that Stevie is able to play #9, and he did well there the 2 times.

With Bentacur, we have a more progressive CM and can rotate with when PEH or Skipp aren’t having the best of games. Winks will also benefit from competition.

So whether we go 3-4-3 or 3-5-2, we have Sonny Kulu Lucas n Bergwijn to compete for 1/2 spots and still have options on the bench to bring on if the starter isn’t performing by the 70th min.

Our first eleven n reserves looks like this - tell me this isn’t a massive upgrade compared to our games against Chelsea.

Starting
Hugo Romero Dier Davies Doherty Skipp PEH Bentacur Reguilon Kane Son

Bench
Gollini Sanchez Tanganga Winks Kulu Lucas Bergwijn

For me it was a real roller coaster that ended up being ok.
Setting up the summer appears to have been the main objective and with the players out of the club (loans I know but their negative vibes are away from the group for the time-being) clears the way for available squad places when the next window opens.
I'm optimistic about the summer as it looks like we have a plan and with lots of free agents/ players entering their last year of contracts etc- it could be great.
The best thing for me is it looks from the outside that we have backed our manager and with FP they have an amiable working relationship.
For one thing missing out on Traore was no biggy for me (we'll never know as he's gone to a different league)
Time will tell.
Top 4 must be the aim now and then we begin again in the summer window

Pros: we signed a living, breathing, professional football player who has been through puberty and even scored top flight goals! And not just one, but two! Even better, Conte knows and actively wanted both players and has an astute plan for integrating them into the first team. This is no Nelsen and Saha window.

Cons: 1)Adama/Diaz - not all our fault to be fair, but two failed transfers leaves a sour taste in anyone's mouth. Hopefully we will get a bit more clarity on these two deals in this thread.
2)GLC+Tanguy+Dele+Gil all leave. Our 'players who can attack' list is now Kane, Son, Bergwijn, Lucas, Kulusevski.
3)The same dilemma remains: Kane and Son are essentially the only ones who can consistently score, and as proven by the 270 minutes of toothless, scoreless pain vs. Chelsea, we are essentially half as good going forward when one of them is missing.

I'm happy with all of the ITK and especially happy with @chrissivad 's tireless Transfer Ticker work.. Seriously, you guys do a wonderful job and have done since the mid-2000s when ITK was shared on a boat, via text message, or posted from a tree outside of Spurs Lodge (looking at you BEN). Hats off to you and all the members who make this place an enjoyable board to visit. It's by far the best Spurs forum out there, and in general one of the best football fansites around.

It's not surprising we are looking to the summer, there is some serious talent going "free" this summer and you'd think we'd want to be involved.

I said before the window clearing out the players that needed to move on was so important. We did that, hopefully that improves that atmosphere around the training ground( can’t be good having 1st team players that aren’t involved being around the place).

JJetset: Conte did want Traore just only as a RWB and not an impact forward (which he is) hence why that wasn't going to happen and he wasn't keen either. Once Barca flashed their tits he was only going to 1 place....

What also strikes me about the two Juve lads is their attitude.

OK not much to go on so far, but they're hard working players and appear to have great attitudes.

Think the Club have been burned badly with Ndombele and Lo Celso in that respect.

But back to the two new guys, I'm confident they'll improve us considerably as a team.

It’s hard not to get a flicker of child-like excitement about such a statement reduction to our wage bill.

It’s moments like that which draw us into this magical game and that we’ll still be talking to our grandchildren about for generations.

To balance the books is to do.

I think that the Dele deal is a remarkable piece of business. there was no way that we would get anywhere near 40m fir him as things stand.

We all know he has the talent and I think that Lampard is probably the best manager in the PL atm to get him firing again.

I reckon that we will be close to the 40m when the trigger point is reached which is fantastic news for all parties

We managed to get players not wanted by the manager out and got players wanted by the manager in, we may have less players in the squad now but the way I see it we have 2 more players that the manager will want to use and hence are richer in options. Would have loved a striker but that was always gonna be hard.

Depending on the system Conte is gonna use as well we should remember that while playing for Sweden Kulusevski is often used as one of two strikers paired with Isak or Zlatan I think so I'm guessing there could be a plan to use him alongside Steve or Son in a 3-5-2 if Kane is unavailable.

If this opens up the possibility for us to go even bigger for the squad revitalisation I'm happy and let's face it, we're challenging for that 4th spot and the players out the door have hardly contributed to the position we're in currently but hopefully the new lads can pitch in.

Overall I would say I'm happy with the window if Conte is happy.

A good window with five solid pieces of business.
The shifting out of Dele, Lo Celso and Ndombele is what we've all been calling for and to manage all three is damn good business.
Bryan Gil's loan will hopefully do him good and I am certain he remains in our future plans.
It's never easy to get the players you want in January but we've brought in two that do improve us and we've not panicked and bought in anyone that doesn't just for the sake of it.
Would have liked to address the positions we know are a priority but again were they available? There's no point bringing in a RWB if Emerson and Doherty are better, good strikers aren't two a penny and remember we've already got one of the best so better to keep our powder dry, we did try at least.
Are we in better shape now? Yes I think so, I certainly believe Conte thinks so which is pretty crucial bearing in mind how many people thought he'd walk away five days ago.
There will be people with unrealistic expectations who won't be satisfied, some people always want more or want a particular player and will point to who we didn't get but they'll always be there.
I'm more optimistic and looking forward to see what Dejan and Rodders will bring to the party, hopefully a top four place.
All in all a good window.
Big shout out to @Hercules @Hotspur88 and @Trix for great ITK and all the staff for bearing with us and keeping the wild ride going.
Cheers to all.

Hopefully the Loans work out and we don't spend the summer waiting for N'Dombele and GLC to find their way to the exit again. Had high hopes for both but its definitely time to cut our losses.

Hope Bryan comes back ready to fight for a place.

Hugo extension is massive, rebuild is big enough without having to replace the man at the back and captain. Would like to get some free agents announced early to show Conte and Charlie Kane our ambition but I think we all know nothing will be committed until we know who picks up 3rd - 4th.

Would be really interesting to see the clauses of Deles Deal. I am happy we moved him on but anything under 20/25 m for a english player would be a bit dissappointing.

I think its good we are roothless with the outs, good message to the squad.

On Kulu and Betancur: i really hope they can contribute to the first team. Not lying the sound of lots of Juve fans makes me a little bit worried, but lets give them a fair go.

In the end feel like we could have done with one more player in. Either RWB or striker. Hope we stay injury free in key areas.

I think the last time we signed two players in January who could realistically compete for a starting XI spot was 2008/09. So that’s progress!

Ok with transfer window, baby steps only.

Good to see Ndombele and Dele moved on. Gil needs to be playing so loan is good but will he develop playing in Spain, he has been there and done that.

Bentancur looks a real smart addition and I think immediately improves us in that centre midfield area area.

Kulu should offer more than Gil and provides a different options to Moura and we look improved here as well.

Not convinced by Rodin or Tanganga and would have liked cover or an upgrade for Davies At LCB.

Our weakest area has been RWB and this key area still needs addressing. Not convinced that Doherty has had some form of resurrection and our RWB options are poor.

The Lloris extension is great news and a critical move, with Romero and Son coming back from injury and the two Juve additions we are certainly improved for the second half of the season. Not concerned about missing out on Dias, with Son and SB we have good options down the left.

Yet to be seen, but the two Juve guys look like competitors and should add a lift in attitude as well.

Average for me, hopefully glc and ndom will tear it up or we will have the same problem in the summer, though gil was a strange loan move as we aren't massively stocked in that area and wouldn't have thought the wages are that high
Decent players bought in , the summer window will be huge so let's wait and see I guess

I feel it’s a good window. The winner attitude - thru what they’ve achieved in Italy - of our two new recruits will enhance all the dressing room; plus, we’ve loaned out n’dom who’s attitude appeared to create disharmony. Glc hasn’t peaked; Dele (bless ‘im) has lost his way; Gil has chances to prove now.
Additionally the dynamic two new players can bring to the team on the playing field will - hopefully - draw out unseen skill sets from our existing players. We’ve been ‘screaming’ out for a shake up for a few years.. feels like a positive first step. Can now look forward to our next game … good window, indeed

i’m glad we didn’t get traore. seems we dodged a potential attitude issue there and i think we’re all still a bit exhausted after our most recent ones

Agree with that. I’m happy with the two players brought in (although it does pose some questions about why only juve players were brought in which have already discussed to death) but I think we should have tried for another striker short term (a proper one, number 9 with a goal scoring career as one, not a makeshift bergwijn).

All well and good thinking about the summer, that’s great but I live in the here and now, pay for season tickets at the stadium and go to games. I want results this season to get us a champions league place. Have we done the right moves to achieve that which is entirely feasible??? Is Conte entirely happy with the incomings too, he wanted more???

Only time will tell.
