Thanks Biz! Glad to see Carroll is more of a remote possibility (more likely to happen if everything falls through?). Can't see us getting both Butland and Lloris though, but I'm crossing my fingers for Lloris.
David also posted "Not true" re: Carroll

I agree that Lloris would be number one, but we do need backup keepers when Friedel/Cudicini/Gomes leaves.

At least, that is how I see it... And I am no expert by any means! (y)

I agree that we need suitable back up, Friedel could do that for this season.

Someone like Butland needs to play regularly, like Courtois is for Atletico.

Hows about we don't just throw a kid who has only played in L2 straight into the lion's mouth instead, huh?

Buying a top European 'keeper and a hot English prospect makes perfect sense. In 3 seasons Lloris can move on for a big fee and we'll have Butland ready and able to take over.

Not sure I agree with the sentiment, entirely anyway, of David's first paragraph. I appreciate the principal of course but if all our concentration is on selling our best players, and how we can squeeze every last penny for players that arn't even being sold this summer because a Club we are dealing with at the moment are trying to land another star player currently - and our focus is solely on creating precedents, or not creating them, for future negotiations with said Club - what's the opportunity cost against compromising some of our plans for this upcoming season? If indeed this is the case.

Dont think Real Madrid can afford 50 million for Bale as the Spanish ecomany has collasped and govenment wont be able to give Madrid hand outs anymore.

Butland's age and inexperience is somewhat irrelevant, Lloris is 25, he hasn't peaked and can still get better.

Signing the two would suggest that Lloris is a stop gap and that's a crazy thought.

I kind of thought that when we signed 2 x Kyles at the same time...

another thing as well here, an unfit Adebayor would still probably be more use to us to start next week given our lack of options, get it done :)

so what did Jacob on COYS say? some of us are not welcome in that particular location.

Re Butland, it would be buy and loan back, so Lloris would be a clear #1

That's different, at the time both were young and had potential. Lloris is an established player for club and country.

From Butland's perspective, where is the incentive for him to join if Lloris does too?

Its England all over again, he won't play unless the No.1 is injured.
