My point is that when Kane's out, we need to play Kane's backup (Son) and Son's backup (Moura, whatever), arguably both in roles that they're not best suited to. Basically, as soon as Kane's out, we're a massively weaker team, playing second-string players for that position.

Good point .. but will someone who sits on the bench for most of the season be match fit/sharp when called upon out of the blue ? Whilst Son / Lucas maybe second string players for that position , at least they will be up to speed ..
More than likely the second fiddle striker would need a few games to get up to speed and potential is there for Kane to be back or almost back by then

So Son plays every game then? LW when Kane is fit and ST if Kane gets injured?
I don't know mate, I'm not the gaffer.
I've already said that I think we're a tad short up front but I don't think it's as desperate as is currently being made out.
Personally, I'd have tried to get Vini back but let's face it, even when we had him, he didn't get to play much with Son often getting preferred (not that I always agreed with it).

It's not a perfect situation but I don't think it's too bad.

In that case, when Kane's out we play Kane's backup (Son) and Son's backup (Bergwijn) and Bergwijn's backup (Moura).

It just goes down to the chain. We have no backup for Kane.
Agreed, plus the team has to play a completely different style without a proper no.9

Add all their goals/assists together and you're not even close to Sonny's contribution are you?

Rob we would all like this to be better but, hopefully these guys see something in Dane in training that makes them confident he can bridge the gap if need be …Rashford and Greenwood were given chances young at UTD…lots were nervous about Kane when he was Soldados understudy ( Kane hadn't been prolific on loan but hadn't played with the leave of players he did when he broke into our first team)

Start of this window Vlahovic would have been an alien name to most, Traore wasnt on anyone’s wish list. Lauturo would have been nice. It’s not as awful as people are saying. Let’s hope January we keep the evolution going.

Thanks to you and the team for the forum ?

I understand where you’re coming from, while I think there are games that Son is perfectly well suited to play that role (and some he isn’t).
For example I’d think against City first game we’d have looked much a lesser team having Vini up front and Son in his more natural position, despite everyone playing in their preferred positions.

I agree but is that all Levy's fault for not spending £40m up front cash on Traore. I think Fabio is getting off light here.

Again I'm playing devil's advocate a bit here as Levy has angered me more times than I can remember but I don't blame him for that decision one bit.

Dan James has more of an output. Lucas does too. In fact Stevie is one goal off his return too

Winks, Davies, Dier & Sanchez were the other contentious ones to my mind. Maybe they get a last roll of the dice… but then again I thought that 2 years ago. ?
Retired now, but having managed people all through my career I realised soon enough that you can never truly get rid of the “deadwood” (as some refer to players from time to time). As you move some on there will always be those not as good as the others and so it goes on. If you are lucky, the general level improves over time but it is not always the case as personal circumstances, injuries and age all impact.

Nuno seems to have a good management style, generally very supportive and instructive but is prepared to be ruthless when it is for the good of the team. Moving out some of the awkward squad such as Aurier and Sissoko is sending a strong signal to the other players, but hopefully the reprieve for Sanchez, Dier and Winks is an even greater motivator. A good start in the first few months of any new job is vital and he has done well.

Shame he wasn’t backed more in recruitment though as that would speed up the whole process of building a strong team.

Incredible how much our wage bill must of shrunk this window
Levy will be toasting himself tonight celebrating yet another screw job.

Did this have to be done before the deadline or something ?

Yes, in order for Serge to feature for another club before the start of the January window, he had to have his registration terminated with the THFC before today’s deadline
