Well one person *cough* TTID *cough* has disagreed with my earlier post, and seems to think we are better off holding out for a profit on a 32 year old declining midfielder, risking spunking £3.6m a year if no-one coughs up.

It's not sensible, people. Claw back 2 or 3 million, thank him for his help and consider it a good piece of business, for what he has given us during his time with us.

Anyway, probably for another thread. Sorry.

We've had ITK on Parker, so there shouldn't be an issue when it comes to talking about the merits of keeping him and paying a ridiculous wage (compared to what he actually offers), or shipping him out. Didn't we pay around £5m for Parker? Yet somebody is in the belief that we should hold out for a profit, for a guy who turns 33 just 8 weeks into th new season, is a bit part player & will only be wanted by a select few clubs? I'll have a toke on whatever that person is chuffing on

I would think this is dependent on Bale though. If we sell Bale next summer, there will have to be some major moves to adjust for that change in quality. Even if we "only" get £65 million for him, we'd still need replacement of some sort just to quiet any potential revolt amongst the support.

I can see that quantity wise this is appearing to be a big window, as even if Capoue is in I would expect at least one more defender. But whenever Bale does leave, there is going to have to be some major spending done to account for that, unless we bring in a Lamela or Willian now, but even then the perception of letting Bale go without quality replacements seems as if it would be damaging to the club.

It seems like AVB was given the squad and more or less told to make do last season and if he did ok (seems like we didn't expect him to be in the top 4 race) he would get the squad he wanted for his system to be played.

Now he will need to give it a real go and then we will in the following years rely more on Sherwood and Baldini finding and bringing through our own stars?

Actually quite frustrating that QPR got relegated, otherwise we would have most likely received GOOD offers for a couple out of Parker, Defoe, Hudd, Livermore and there would be no dilemma about dropping down a division.

He s a mercenary just like most of the Brazilians that go there. Its all about the coin and who can blame them? Most of these guys come from a world with nothing. Trust me if it was not about cash would he have gone to Ukraine or Russia?

I think some of the brazilian posters could speak to this better, but I think both Bernard and Willian come from fairly middle class back grounds. In fact, I think the middle class is much more prominent in developing players in Brazil than we sometimes realize. But that being said, I know a few people in the middle class, and I think everyone of them would take that kind of money too
