We're really going to miss Toby when he leaves. I think some people are underestimating how important he is to the team - he'll be a bigger loss than Eriksen imo.

That partnership with Vertonghen is one of the best in the league. It will hurt even more if he moves to a rival in the PL.

I think we will definitely need a replacement - Foyth has potential but is still raw, Dier is too error prone and lacks concentration and I'm not totally convinced by Sanchez.

I think the issue/ difference is with both is that Real Madrid really wanted Hazard and needed him this year to keep Zidane and the Real Madrid fans happy and that Zidane is so so on Eriksen and will gladly pass on him if the deal isn't great.

Chelsea could also afford to lose Hazard on a free as they are so well bankrolled by their owners money compared to us who operate within a rigid spend within your means frame of work. Hazard was the Jewell Real wanted but if Eriksen is seen as a squad player then ondont see Real wanting to pay a premium for him when he will cost zilch in a years time.

That's a fair comment. We shouldn't roll over on the price though, outside Harry, he is our most valuable player. I guess he goes for what we ask, or he stay and signs a new contract. (as previous ITK information as suggest he would do)

I don't really know how clubs perceive money lost to be honest. Yes we could lose out on 50 million which can be re-invested, at the same time we brought him for 11 million, in which we probably got at least 10 times the value out of him. Guess it also depends on Eriksen's attitude in the next year if he does decide not to re-commit.

I get that losing Eriksen we have the potential replacements of Lo Celso and Ceballos. But if we lose Alderweireld, who have we been linked with to replace him or will our 4 CB's be Vertonghen, Sanchez, Foyth and Dier?
Same goes with Trippier?

Sanchez, Foyth and probably Dier can all take/cover Toby.
It's Verts we need cover for

Same with Trippier, if he goes we still have Aurier and KWP. So not short on options.

If those options aren't good enough, then they will need moved on imo.

Yeah but he could go Man U for that as they’re paying obscene amounts, ITK all points to Real Madrid being wanted destination.

And I don’t get the impression he’s the kind of footballer who would put money over ambition.

We did not let it come to that though they forced it to become that way by refusing to sign very good contract offers.
You can't put that one on the club it's the players being awkward as I guess is their right.

To a certain extent it is our fault. If we have a chairman who loves to get the maximum value from selling players, you do not simply let them run their contract down. We knew last summer Toby refused to sign a new contract. No reason why Levy could have tried to sell him for more than the 25 mill we will get now.

When a player has one year left on their deal they hold the key. They can force us to take a poor deal rather than missing out and letting him go for free.

Yes they refused to sign new deals but it’s silly to say “we did not let it come to that”. Levy could have cashed in on Toby last summer after his agent tried to play games. He could have sat down with Eriksen and seen where he stood. Asked him does he want to stay long term or not. Then offer him a contract and if he doesn’t sign it by a certain time frame, sell him.

I love both of them and personally I am glad we kept them this last season. But from a business perspective if you were looking to sell them for as much money as possible, we could have done more last summer to avoid where we are at now.

Maybe MoPo feels that Davies can also step in for Verts at the moment... We keep DRose as our LB...

Sad that Eriksen is being a dick. Surely he should be thinking ‘Madrid paid £90m for Hazard with one year left, why am I worth so much less’, not ‘Why won’t Spurs accept a low offer for me’. He doesn’t come across as stupid so surely he can’t expect Spurs to accept, say, £40/45m or something nuts like that based on the current market. If he thinks he’s good enough for Madrid, then he needs to accept that in the current market that means his transfer fee is high, as Madrid are (his words) one of only a few clubs that are a step up. If you’re too good to stay at last season’s Champions League finalist and a top side in Europe’s toughest league, you’re too good to go for anything less than a huge transfer fee, regardless of your contract.

Hopefully all three are out the door imminently so we can replace them all quickly. Good to see that movements in the window are expected soon.

A few bits mostly regarding outs.

CE. Wants out, is desperate for Madrid. They are keen however only see him as a squad player not as a galactico first team starter. This is causing pricing issues, as we have a price Madrid don't want to pay it, eriksen is in turn getting pissy!

Toby verrrry likely to still go, no idea who to,(plenty of rumours) as the clause in his contract means no one has had to negotiate with us.

Trips. Probably going.

There are others that could still go out, but as things stand these three are closest/most likely to go.

Still pushing hard for Lo C, he's definitley top of the hitlist atm. We want it done early this week. Have been told this next few days are big as far as knowing where we stand on certain deals are concerned.
If Eriksen knows they only see him as a squad player and is still desperate for a move then I don't think I'd want him to come back anyway

Thanks Trix, honestly think Eriksen will be eaten alive in Madrid. Don't hold it against him wanting to go. I think if we get Lo Celso in addition to what we've already done and are looking to do we can head in an exciting direction without him.

We did OK when Toby was out for a while with Sanchez.
Verts and Sanchez in central defense.
I personally think Dier can also do a solid job for us too.
But yeah Verts and Toby the best combination

As positive as the window has been thus far, if we do lose both Toby & Eriksen we are going to have to get significant business done in the remaining weeks to start the season stronger or at least as strong as last season.

GLC is being touted as a possible Eriksen replacement, I like him but I'm not sure alone he would provide us what Eriksen does.

We don't seem to be seriously linked with any CBs so if Toby is that close to leaving it appears we won't replace him. That does make me concerned about our defence, it wasn't great last season and if Toby leaves with no replacement it will be even weaker...

“Zidane clearly doesn’t” Really? How do you know that? You don’t think they’re possibly playing the card to get him cheap? Do RM buy Squad Players?

They want Pogba, clear as day, Eriksen is sloppy seconds.

Don't see why Eriksen would only be a squad player in Madrid. It's not like he cant compete with Modric/Kroos/Isco, they're not as good as they used to be. Modric would probaly only have a year or two max at Madrid left. Eriksen can see that Madrid is not that strong in CM/AM, so he knows he will play eventually.

I think that we tend to lose one key perspective when we talk about some stuff, especially things like going to RM to be a squad player, and that's the ego it takes to become a top professional, and the utter self-belief. (Most of the time) You don't sign for a club thinking well, I'll never break through but it's a nice pay day. Eriksen's mindset has to be I am good enough, and the minute I get my chance, I'll take it. I've got the goods to make the position mine, at the biggest club in the world, hell yeah I'm gonna take that shot... I think to succeed in any career like this you need that unflagging and unreasonable self-belief in your own talents.

Thanks for the info Trix. I think we are significantly weaker as a squad without the two you mention and this worries me despite the good signings we are looking at making.

I guess Sanchez simply has to step up this season with Toby leaving. Record signing until last week, needs to do the business. It’s worrying though as Verts is getting on now and Foyth is still raw. Dier to me is a clumsy mistake prone CB and I just don’t rate him there.
