ITK from Trix makes sense re HG players. Im no George's Cross chest beater, but we have slowly seen a reduction of English players in our first XI since Poch (when we regularly had 5/6 players in the England squad). Currently of guaranteed starters you've got Maddison and maybe Skipp?

HG rules aside it would be nice to have a sense of a British spine in the team, or at least the potential. If we have genuine confidence that there are some realistic prospects coming through, then signing 1/2 players that can contribute to the team/squad for a year or two whilst they emerge makes sense. Helps that they tend to retain transfer value within the EPL as well given their HG quota value alongside actual ability.
Rose, trippier, Kane, winks and dier…look how that has ended up!
Dier is not even home grown

Seeing how Ange has been putting on experienced player's to hold a lead such as Hojberg and Davies I wouldn't be surprised that Maguire could be of interest plus he is home grown. Whether Ange wants him is another matter. Dier is not home grown.
This 100%. We will not be playing the attacking press for every 90 minutes in 38 PL games. There are going to by times when we need to close games down.

Maguire was a good player before his arrest 3 years ago and has not seemed to recovered since then.

Ange is a Players Coach and if he can get him anywhere back to near his best, if the price is right and Ange is on board, it could be a shrewd piece business to bring a HG squad player in.

Even if he is wanted isn’t he on silly money?

I'd rather keep PEH than take Maguire off their hands. We can't be that stupid... surely. We help them trim their squad by taking their reject and we strengthen them at the same time.

Wouldn't that make PEH our "reject"?

No I've always appreciated what PEH does. I've never understood the clamor to get him out the door. We'd be foolish to sell him. We need a squad of quality. Not only a starting 11. They can flog Maguire off elsewhere. We need to rebuild our squad...Maguire has no place in any rebuild.

I suppose it depends how much he wants to move/play.

He is deluded if he think he can demand the same level of salary if he moves. Suppose that would be a guide to his commitment to ‘resurrect’ his career.

Is your point that we didn't get good money for any of them? If so, it seems like it's more a question of when we sell rather than them not having any value at all.

I wouldn't be opposed to bringing in a Maguire, subject to Ange's approval, obviously, as I do think homegrown quotas are something we need to keep in mind.

At 200k a week? With no real resale ? Doesn’t sound levy like.

I read the Maguire ITK more as he was offered to us and not as if we were interested in him. When West Ham agreed a fee it was over 30 million if I remember correctly. I very much doubt we are going to be looking to spend that much money on Maguire and doubt he would come here to be a reserve CB when he can go to a club like West Ham and be nailed on in their first 11.

My word, things have turned around from last year quickly.. now we’re stating nationality preferences for the spine of the team?!

With that in mind, I would have thought we'd made Raya an absolute priority and necessity rather than moving onto plan B with Vic so early in the window.

But I guess it was just as important to get a goalkeeper in place for pre season.
It was also important to get a cb in for preseason.

I've been thinking for a while that I could see Levy seeing "value" in Maguire...

Not sure I'm completely against the idea as well.
😂 be careful dude, red crosses a plenty for having that opinion !

Sudden HG panic with couple days left in the window, sounds about right.
It's not really panic with a few days left, if anything it's actually forward planning. It's quite refreshing to hear the new approach to transfers and also great that FP & DL etc are addressing a potential future issue now. It's also changing all the time depending on who stays/leaves. FP has also put in an incredible amount of work behind the scenes with the youth and the club are confident it will reap the rewards so that we don't need to pay £50m (ish) for a HG player. FWIW, BJ now looking very very likely.

There's no better way to sum up the "immediate hope followed by crushing disappointment" lifecycle of a Spurs fan than seeing 5 new pages in the ITK discussion thread and realising it's all about Harry Maguire.

There's no panic. It's about future proofing ourselves now or kicking the can down the road, and looking at it in future windows. Problem with option 2 is that it will limit who we can get in at that point, and it could well limit us to only being able to bring in HG options. Right now we have two players that Ange believes will strengthen his options that are both HG and that are both obtainable whilst hopefully also moving players on that are not wanted.

As long as that second one isn’t Maguire. 😂

Tears of joy about alignment and actual forward thinking. ❤️
