In the spirit of seesaw I have 4 points.

1) I am delighted with this signing. A very exciting acquisition.
2) I am also delighted we have managed to complete a signing without weeks of newspaper articles. Perhaps we should always sign players from Germany where the chairmen and managers are very business like and respectful!

3) This cannot be our last attacking signing as without a proper back up striker we are in trouble.
4) Ditto for DM. Leaving so many key signing this late is taking a massive risk.
This got a JJ "winner"! ;)

By the way, a seesaw works using a pivot.

Thats what I'm hoping for next!

Levy did say that we wouldn't likely make signings until the final two weeks so its hardly a surprise. I think that people forget that during the hysteria.

As for lessons learned, most of the Super Bale Seven were signed before the deadline and we know how that turned out! He he he....:D

Signing them early or signing them late is not the point I was making. It's about doing the research and having a long term plan of where we are going. The "Super Bale 7" as you put it were imo opportunistic buys that represented quality(where they were playing at that time) but not necessarily the correct fit for purpose. This is why so much of it has not worked out, and why it has cost us two seasons of floundering not to mention a fair bit of money.

Getting in Mitchell and overhauling the scouting and analysis set up completely has cost an awful lot of time and money. No way has Levy done this in order to spend the entire transfer window pissing about, only to sign available journey men in the last couple of days. The hits we have taken on players this window have been substantial, and yet we are still signing players for significant fee's, and there is still more to come. I know the net spend detectives will be out in force now, trying to work out just who we have to sell to make anything else happen, but perhaps just perhaps, what we have been saying all along(things have changed this time round) is actually true.

As much as all the ITK rules it out, I'd be happy enough with Austin as backup No9.
Fee, not too high. Player, interested. Doable. But strongly dismissed, I understand that, so not likely.

Anyhow. Fully expecting Lamela to head on out soon. All ITK still unified in suggesting that buying a CF is still on the to do list, and that Son is not the CF signing. Also, all in agreement we are still working towards and CM.
Great to see the club know the holes in the squad and are working towards getting them done. This transfer just goes to show, we don't see everything that's going on behind the scenes. JJ told Rob and A&C some weeks ago this was on the radar, yet the media only grabbed it Wednesday, transfer wrapped up by this morning. What's to say a CM and backup CF are also not in the pipeline with the same under wraps protocol?

Fringe players gone, or going. Levy taken a hit on some. Players being signed to actually fit the managers plans, and with a CM and CF to be done, the depth and balance will have been addressed. I fail to see how we'll not sign a CF, especially if/when Ade goes. Previously, although we've not been too confident in them, we have at least had options in Ade and Soldado, but now we are literally down to one striker. I cannot see how Levy and Co will leave us that light on numbers and still expect results. That's why I'm conviced there's someone coming in.
Reality, we are two signings away from having a very talented and very well balanced squad. If there's a minor net spend, it's not the end of the world. TV money goes up this season. Also, we're starting to see an increase in the promotion of youth players, so the days of massive summer turnovers could be over. All the deadwood has gone, well almost. Future windows may be more selling players to make room for academy players to come in. One bit of spend up this summer, sets us up for a few seasons, ahead of the stadium move. Taking into account the hugely slashed wage bill, extra fee outlays I'd imagine could be absorbed.

These are my reasons to be positive and confident about what is to come over the next few days. ITK all seem in unison about what is going on, so I'm keeping the faith a bit longer.
