I agree, but the difference is that VDV needed a team that day as he wasn't going to be in the 25 man squad. There are still 6 days of the window left, Benzema is not desperate (as far as I know), and wages could take time to negotiate.

I just think it would be a different scenario.

If they sign Adebayor and Llorente surely Benzema will be aware that he could be out of Real's 25 man squad come the end of the month? A possibility, anyway.

I agree though, this is not an over-nighter. This will no doubt go down to the wire, which is no good for my nerves!

With Chelsea coming back into form, Man City mostly looking very solid, the Arse have been there, done it and Man Utd way ahead - our path back into the Top 4 is looking blocked :( we desperately need that striker (or 2, even better) otherwise we'll miss out.

I think the only chance of getting Benzema in will be if Real bring in another forward, which I really hope they do...and fast!

do spain have the 25 man rule too? from what i read on it it was always "the new 25-man squad and home-grown player rules introduced by the Premier League for the 2010-11 season" makes it sound its just us
Spain have had it for a few years now, longer than the PL.

seeing how they have him on loan, maybe they would let us have Benzema on loan also? would mean they can recall him if they need him quick, and Jose seems to like us so may be willing to do a deal

Madrid have an option to buy with Adabayor.

Madrid need the money for Aguero/Llorente.

A loan doesn't suit them at all - they need to sell him.

1 September 2008 - the day we sold Berbatov

26 January 2011 - the day we finally buy a proper replacement in Benzema?

:hump:

So Benzema, who can neither hold the ball up or play with his back to goal, is a proper replacement for Berbatov?

But according to you Huntelaar is the Dutch Darren Bent, isn't he?

This. The only stumbling block I can see in the deal is

a) Benzema's probable high wage demands
b) The club unwilling to give in to them as not to disatisfy our other top earners
c) Benzema is made out to be a bit of a humpty dumpty, so he might not want to join.

On the other hand, it does all add up.

- We have a great relationship with Real and Jose Mourinho
- VdV has joined from over there and become a star again
- Harry could charm a Turk into marrying a Greek
- Levy has brainwashing ability, every player that signs claims to have been "impressed with the Clubs plans"
- Benzema has had a row with a lot of people over there.
- There's a lot of French speaking players at Spurs and in London in general (Chelsea & Arsenal)
- I like making these bullet points.

VDV was done even quicker

 give them to them! even drive him there is we must!!

also Sky just said villa have asked us to name our price for JJ

I think it would be a mistake to get rid of JJ at this point. We have a few midfielders but not many with his engine which is always good to have on the bench. Pienaar is the closest we have and maybe Sandro but i think you need a player capable of playing the box-to-box role in a squad and he is our only genuine player of that ilk.

On another note i am impressed with the changes Villa are making in this window. Bent, Makoun (sp), Walker and JJ would be a terriffic window and will turn them from relegation to a top half team.

Benzema would be a fantastic transfer, if on loan i hope we prenegotiate a longer term deal - just incase he is a big hit, we don't want Real adding an extra £5m in June. I think they will get Addy and possibly another on loan before they spend in the Summer on Addy and Llorente - with Higuain and Ronaldo they would have an amazing frontline.

Keane to West Ham on loan is on the BBC transfer BS page - although they talk about agreeing a £6m fee for the summer if they avoid relegation not a loan. My guess would be a loan (maybe for £1m) followed by a permanent deal for £5m IF they stay up - for once i want them to stay up!!

Now have to go as i was told by a manager that a member of staff got sacked last week for spending too much time on the internet! The BigBrother here record every page we look at!! I'm screwed as the past week has been page 1, page 2, page 3........page 804, page 805......

Well that was an interesting night!!

Firstly, if he is our target, you can forget the wednesday announcements that FFN and Adie were alluding to earlier in the week, because imo that was for Suarez only, there is no way that we could conclude a deal for Benzema this quickly.

Secondly, I have reservations over this, If he is our no 1 target, and I don't doubt that he has, given the reservations that Adie had over posting the info, this will not happen over night, especially given the differences between wages. This could take some time and not happen over night, and maybe not even come off at all. Which would mean maybe missing out on other targets.

But saying that, if it came off, it would be fantastic.

Mate to be honest if there was a massive disparity in wages it wouldn't even of got to face to face negotiations.

There must be a bracket for agreement already estbablished.

We play a different way know though. Benzema has the perfect blend of pace, skill and power to play as lone forward on the last shoulder ahead of our great AMs. Berbatov was the perfect forward for a team who (for understandable reasons - i.e. JJ and Zok) tended to by-pass their midfield and play it longer.

Huntelaar's problem is that he is as slow as Sheringham (now at 44) and has no physicality.

I have to say, I'm a JJ fan but if they really have said "name your price" and we can get anything over what we paid for him (£7m?) we've got to take it. I think I'd ask for £10m and see what their response is. Palacios is actually far more of a box-to-box midfielder than people give him credit for and if JJ's departure also paved the way for Diarra to come in then I think we'll have improved our central midfield options.

Don't forget O'Hara as well...
