Lots of people on here have spelt out the reasons that he is a better option for us to keep. Neither are good enough to be regular starters but Pav is more likley to score coming off the bench (I'm pretty sure the stats back that up in a big way) and he's a lot less likely to bitch about being on the bench.

Exactly.
If we are upgrading our strike force, but keeping one of the current lot, the one kept will have one primary role - to sit on the bench, be a Super-Sub, if you will.
I asked a while back if anyone had the stats for who had the best strike rate specifically coming off the bench Pav or Defoe. Like Pablo, I am sur ethe stats will show it is Pav - does anyone have them?

Bit apprehensive about baseing our entire formation and transfer strategy on one man. We need a plan B for the games where he wont play as he doesn't have a natural replacement in the squad.

The idea is that if we get Vucinic, Adebayor and retain one of our current lot we won't be. Vucinic and Adebayor could both play with VDV, meaning we could cope with one fo them being injured. But, going by the way Vucinic has complimented Rossi at Roma, I suspect he could play in a more direct 4-4-2, with either Adebayor or the striker we kept on; ditto Adebayor.

Pavs bitched about being on the bench loads

Quite a while back. He spent almost the whole of last season on the bench without biatching, and is seemingly prepared to sign a new contract after that experience, suggesting he has understood that his role may be somewhat more reduced than it was.

I think a lot of people are over-embellishing Man City's position. Yes, they have lots of money but they are still reliant on not making such a loss so as to prevent them from entering European competition due to the Financial Fair Play Regulations.

If they have too many players that are not included in their 25 squad, they will effectively be paying millions a week for no reason at all. By the end of the season it all adds up. At the moment I think they have in the region of 32-to 34 first team players (Not including signings), most of whom are on excessively high wages such as Santa Cruz, Adebayor, Bellamy and Bridge.

My guess is that a fair few of them will end up going out on loan in order to retain a reasonable transfer value and to limit the damage done to the accounts.

To those that say they may loan to us as a sign that they dont see us as a threat...does that really matter? If Man Utd loaned us Rooney because they don't see us as a threat would you refuse?

No, Loco...I think you've got it Arse-about, on this one...I think the feeling is that Citeh are over-embellishing their position viz-a-viz ourselves.

I don't get this Vucinic transfer, I mean he is not really THAT good is he? 1 goal in 3 games?

Vucinic would make me very happy.
Adebayor would make me very happy.
Both would make me fuck a goat.

For those concerned about Vucinic's goal record, last season in the league he scored 1 in 2.8 playing out of position. The season before that in the league he scored 1 in 2.4 playing out of position. The season before that in the league he scored 1 in 2.5 playing out of position. His overall stat is dragged down by his second season where he scored fewer than 1 in 3 in the league, and his first season when he only scored only twice in the league. Based on the last three seasons, however, he is a capable scorer even when shafted out of position to accommodate someone else.

Arsenal were sniffing around Vucinic a few months back so I don't doubt it for a minute, They will sign a few players before the season starts, If we want him we should hurry up and get this done, If Arsenal come in for him we lose out.

Seriously fella, chill the f**k out. If the ITKs are to be believed we are close to doing the deal, so don't panic. If we don't get him, we will get someone else, so chill.

So Hutton -> Villa sounds like great news, given that Walker and Corluka with Kaboul at back up is more than enough coverage for RB.

Vucinic in is much needed and really hope we pull this off soon!

Adebayor - can't see why the wages are an issue if we had an agreement with him in Jan, although i suppose City might have been happy to subsidise them at that point?

There are 160,000 reasons why Adebayor's wages are a problem. Especially when Rossi is demanding half and Vucinic will be even less than that.

I agree City would have probably subsidised them in Jan, but won't now they want rid of him permanently.

Dan, just stop, it's getting embarrassing now.

Dan is 90% correct except for a dodgy stat.

He has always been a one trick pony, and even the poorer sides have cottened on to it.

he can shoot.....so stop him shooting.

It was the same when he was 15.

Last thing we need is Arsenal pinching another player that fazza likes at the last minute... :shifty:

I think people are overstating this. He said he heard of our interest and was ready to join. Doesn't necessarily mean that had finalised all the details of his contract.

I suppose it depends on how much he values first team football over money these days, his attitude seems to have changed since the Togo shootings, but that's probably why we're at logger-heads over discussions.

Arsenal would have made their interest know by now if they wanted him. It's not a secret that Vucinic wants to move on.

Just curious regarding general consensus...would Adebayor/Vucinic qualify as marquee signings? They'd improve the team no doubt

Yeah, but the problem with Rossi isn't wages, it's the fee being asked and the fact the player doesn't seem too fussed on coming here from what's been said. Mind you it could still happen.

Yes they would. Rossi and Aguero too much for us.

Vucinic and Adebayor with Crouch and Pav in reserve would be decent.
