off Twitter:

Looks like damiao is on his way to white hart lane. odds slashed to 1/8

No idea who this guy is or where he is getting his odds but just thought I would share. Don't shoot me.

meh, a £20 bet is enough to significantly move the market in transfers. Odds have no indication of transfer activity imo, last year betting was suspended on Sessengon joining us when there was nothing in the media/itk, just some random bet

Indeed, people need to understand that betting odds are not insider information. The house is trying to make money off of both sides of a bet. So, they will estimate a line then once betting occurs, they will fluctuate the odds to change the payout, therefore continuously making it so that they will have to payout the least possible, and will make more. All it is, when someone bets, is that people are putting money on it. I very much doubt this is insiders making money off of transfers.

Lots of people suggesting we need to buy a new player because Sandro might be out for several months, but its pretty rare to find that happens - unless we need one long term.

Holtby started off as a defensive mid before being moved forward, if I were Levy I'd have tihought that his versatility was a real asset before I bought him.....and this may be a time to use him in that way. I'd also be thinking about Livermore - and also Luongo in the development squad.

Just depends onn the thinking of the midfield squad - Bale, Lennon, Sigudssoin, Parker, Sandro (may be out injured for a couple of months), Dembele, Sigurdsson, Huddlestone (so that's 8 players) - with Dempsey also available to play there as well as youngsters Townsend, Falque, Carroll, Luongo, Mason et al.

With those numbers of midfielders - Spurs are more likely to bring forward Holtby than buy. If we sell Huddlestone we might bring in another midfielder but otherwise not so sure we would ?
Bale and Lennon are wide players, Holtby isn't here(yet),Siggurdson isn't good enough to play in a central midfield two, Parker has just come back from an injury, leaving Dembele(history of hip problems),
(you counted Siggurdson twice btw) Sandro could well be out for two plus months, Dempsey is about as good as Sig in a midfield two, the younguns aren't good enough yet either(not inc livermore as he's possibly off on loan)
we are going to be relying on Hudd being third choice behind Parker and Dembele and Livermore being fourth choice. none of the other can play well enough in central midfield. we get one knock to another central midfielder or a red card and we'll be fucked for a few games. Holtby is untested in this league but i do think we need him in asap.
Not having a dig at your post but i'm sure the club have thought about the possible situation of these sort of things happening (it usually does with us lol)

Just an update on Holtby possibly coming in January:

Duncan Castles@DuncanCastles
Tottenham attempting to bring forward Lewis Holtby signing after Sandro surgery.

Furthermore:

Andre Villas-Boas is trying to persuade Schalke 04 and Daniel Levy to accelerate the arrival of Germany midfielder Holtby, who was already agreed a pre-contract deal for next season. Any agreement with Schalke would involve a substantial increase on the FIFA-mandated training compensation Tottenham are due to pay for Holtby for a summer transfer, and a close friend of Villas-Boas describes the chance of completing the move as "20 per cent".

Also, in that article, Duncan Castles posted this:

Despite guiding Tottenham into serious contention for a Champions League place in his first season at the club, Villas-Boas has been asked to work on an unexpectedly tight budget in the current transfer window.

And, I apologize if this has been posted. Please let me know if it has and I'll delete it.

doesnt sound like good news coming from Duncan Castles, who supposedly has the inside track with Mr AVB.

Wonder why've we become so tight-arsed with our transfer budget? Is our last Summer Isco/Moutinho bid only a charade to appease the fans that we have amibition?

It is a bit concerning. I'm not sure what happened to the funds if they were readily available in the summer. Other ITK have stated the transfer funds/stadium funds are completely separate, and I honestly am not a financial guru in any way. But, if the bid for Moutinho was ready to be accepted, one would think there is money available.

I think the only realistic thing now is to simply say "We'll have to see come February 1st." We'll have a far better idea of what money was made available, if any at all.

Jesus, Sandro injury and an 'unexpectedly tight budget', what a shit few days. Let's hope we get some good news where it matters on Sunday.

Perhaps they wish to reassess the squad come summer time when fees are lower and contracts have run a bit? After all it will be the first full summer with AVB at the helm and I could see Levy opting to avoid any unnecessarily risky purchases in the winter if AVB seems confident of securing a CL spot with the current squad...

Though I hope I'm wrong and we press on with some clever transfers within the next two weeks!

nope. cover for Afellay who's injured.
Dont Hotby and him both play cam/wing? Besides, afellay has been out for 2 months. I think they would have been more progressive if it was afellay cover. I know I'm being optimistic, but the timing seems more than coincidental.

I have no doubt thats what he's been told to report, no point in giving Chel$ki a heads up on our targets like last summer
