Probably been said but 'Always look on the bright side of life' Dier is off

Yeah, first thing I thought was Dire Straights and as has already been mentioned, the Monty Python reference seems the most logical to me.

Although, on the other hand, if it was bad news about one of our players leaving I don't see the need for a cryptic.

I love cryptics, at least it makes the place busy.

Surely can't be about an outgoing, don't see why it'd be a cryptic - they're usually for new names...

Worst thing about Dier going for me is Alli, they are serious BFF's arent they? Hope it wouldnt make him think twice about sticking around should something ever come up for him.

Dier doesnt get in our strongest XI IMO, admittedly great as a utility player for us to keep.

Clearly he does if we are playing wing-back system, as he is the 3rd CB.
Dier out has to mean another CB coming in if we are going with 3 at back consistently.

I'm sure they could still meet up outside of work for a sleepover.

I can't see it being an outgoing transfer. Why would we be hush hush about it? I thought the cryptics were to prevent the potential transfer falling through or to protect the source etc etc. We've already said we're not going to sell anyone we don't want. I can't see Dier falling into that category.

This will be for a potential target of ours.

I'm going for Renato Sanchez.

Due to the fact the Goat is involved with a mind bending cryptic then my shout is either Lemar or Barkley.

There is a Spurs reference in Romeo and Juliet, and the bolded part below actually fits in well with the last few pages of this thread :ROFLMAO:

Mercutio:
Come between us, good Benvolio, my wits faints.

Romeo:
Swits and spurs, swits and spurs, or I'll cry a match.

Mercutio:
Nay, if our wits run the wild-goose chase, I am done; for
thou hast more of the wild goose in one of thy wits than, I am
sure, I have in my whole five.

Scratching around for facts......."Luigi da Porto gave Romeo and Juliet most of its modern form, including the names of the lovers, the rival families of Montecchi and Capuleti, and the location in Verona".
