That hitting from Malan last night was incredible. The cleanest hitting I've seen in ages. On what was supposed to be a slow pitch and they were saying about how the players were all looking to hit square of the wicket, he just kept planting it straight into the stand behind long on!

Jug avoidance for Malan! FINE!!!!!
Recalling a match we played against Woodford Wells III (or IV, maybe) some years ago. We wrapped it up pretty early and had got in their clubhouse and various players got their jugs in. Sat outside watching their first team play an Essex league match - really good quality. Clapped the bat for his 50, and a chap with a box started coming round for donations. We thought it must be for the leaky roof fund, or something like that. When he got to us the question was asked.

"Oh no mate, it's a collection for the batsman's jug for his 50".

Unsurprisingly, he got nowt from us except a couple of choice words!

he hinted in his interview he took the single to prioritise winning above a personal milestone. he got dropped previously for preserving a not out over extra team runs, so he’s remembered how Morgan was apparently furious after that.

so, laudable, but definite jug avoidance - he’d be buying double for that at my club!

England have a fantastic group of one day and T20 players.

Although we won the series against S Africa comfortably we’ve probably 2 places up for grabs in the 1st team.

Roy - hopelessly out of form. We could bring Billings in but our other opening options in Bairstow and Stokes have both struggled with opening the batting.

Tom Curran - way too erratic for me. His brother Sam is clearly the better of the two. I would bring David Willey back into the team. Yes he also goes for runs but he’s a wicket taker and is a very good batsman too.

Stokes opened in the IPL and did ok, scoring a ton in one game and averaging 40, he could do the job if required. I expect Wood to play a role, in place of one of the Curran's, I'm not convinced by Sam the bowler in T20, and Tom suffers from having so many varieties that I'm not sure what his stock ball is anymore. I think Willey is done, if you pardon the expression.

looks like YJB will be recalled to the Test squad for the winter tours - he’s just pulled out of his Big Bash commitments.

Not sure what he’s done to warrant a recall, but hopefully if he gets a chance he scores some runs.

Interesting interview with Smith yesterday. By his own high standards he had a poor IPL. Said yesterday he was so happy he has found his "hands" again.
I guess by that he means his dexterity. Otherwise I'm stumped!
"hands" wouldn't be Aussie slang for sandpaper would it? :cautious:

Ffs covid strikes again! Was looking forward to watching today’s game. Having it on in the back ground whilst working.

same, although i was looking forward to working in the background while watching them game ?

hopefully goes ahead Sunday. I guess thats the one good thing about no crowds - easier to re-arrange games without affecting the punters!

Bit odd postponing this game due to a positive test but stating they will play it in 2 days time instead

I might be missing something but what difference does 2 days make?

i guess they will give the squad a couple of further Covid tests over the next 48hrs to see if anyone tests positive.
