258-8 is pretty decent given where they were. I'm not a fan of Denly but that was an intelligent and vital innings.

Banton I've not seen before but he looked confident and capable in his brief hit. Let's see what he does in the next couple of games.

ODI's start tomorrow. can we shoehorn Roy, Bairstow and Banton into the same 11? Unfortunately for Banton it looks like he'll be put out of position at 6. he's definitely best in the powerplay, but Roy and Bairstow have definitely earnt the right to stay at the top together.

should be a good mini series, along with the T20's too.

Don’t know much about Banton apart from what I’ve seen of him playing for England, where does he bat for his county side?

Parkinson looks a good prospect as an ODI spinner but he should really try to develop a googly as Rashid showed today. Mystery spin is a real weapon in ODIs

Opens in 50 over and 20/20 cricket. tough to dislodge the Roy and Bairstow partnership. but i’d like to see him coming in at 3 on a day like today where we’d got off to a flier. however, he did play well batting lower today. Can’t see him and Buttler getting in the same side though, too similar. unless Buttler comes in for Denly and Banton moves up.

anyway, good to see we have some serious depth in limited overs cricket.

The spin specialist Jennings is back for the SL tour.

Moeen still unavailable ?

Crawley, Sibley, Jennings and Denly for the top 3 places. They have to start with the incumbents, presumably.

And will Foakes carry drinks or immediately replace Buttler?

Will be the same team that finished the Sri Lanka tour imo probably the right call??
only change I would consider would be foakes for Butler

I’d be disappointed if they changed the top order from the SA series. however, they do have an obsession with Jennings playing in the sub-continent.

I think Foakes will probably be drinks boy, Buttler seems to be undroppable now he’s vice captain.

Stokes is vice-captain.

Big series for Buttler if he keeps the gloves?
Another bad series with the bat and I can see him out of the test side for good

On Sri Lanka's spinners' wickets you need the best keeper you can get. It's a tricky one!

I hope Buttler does come good again, though; he can take a match away from the opposition in half an hour. Like Stokes, really, so long as the top order can provide a decent platform.

I hope Buttler comes good too, such a great player to watch when he is on it.
Think he needs to play close to how he does in the ODIs as he seems to be in 2 minds in test matches as of how to approach an innings. Would like to see him maybe take 20/30 balls to get in and then go on the attack

He's certainly suited more to coming in at 320-5 than 120-5, but it's difficult to know which it's likely to be when the team is picked!
