Bollox to that. You got absolutely murdered 2-2

Embarrassing. Hopefully you’ll be a bit better in a couple of years time and maybe try and go toe to toe with us rather than sticking 8 men on the fence from ball one

all the talk here this morning, media and fans, is all about the cheating poms, couldn't get a wicket at 0-130, so whinged like hell, got the ball changed to a shiny one and then bowled us out, the ball was not like for like

cheating whinging poms, blah blah blah

for mine the situation was no different from the Bairstow dismissal, we were entitled to appeal, the umps gave it out

where was the cheating ?

the umps allowed the ball to be changed, not the poms, where was the cheating ?

mind you our media are not a patch on yours but they do like their clicks

and yeah, we do love to hear Tears Morgan have a whinge, we must be doing something right

This is exactly why the Aussies rile us up so much.

There is nothing but crying and whinging everywhere by Australians about the ball and that they were snubbed for drinks after the game. Yet they're somehow maintaining the narrative of "whinging pom babies".

I'll answer for you mate.
2010/11 Beat us 3 - 1
That's the only time in Ashes history that either team has won 3 Tests by an innings in the same series. It was only the 5th time we've won a series on Aussie soil since WWII. (The others were 1954/55, 1970/71, 1978/79 and 1986/87.)

I must admit I think Australia might have a bit of a case regarding the ball change. I think England would be unhappy if it was the other way around.

Some really decent performances with bat and ball, Crawley with his runs up top, Broady being Broady, Stokes doing Stokes stuff…….but for me Man of the series was Woakes.
19 wickets at 18 from three tests, take a bow son, to come in and perform like that was outstanding.
Just looking at the stats though and I thought Root had had a bit of a poor series by his standards but then he still scored 412 @ 51!
Root also got the 2 most unplayable balls of the series so could easily have been more

They absolutely don’t. If the ball goes out of shape you can ask to change it. The Aussies did it numerous times in the series. You could also just as easily argue the first ball was a clunker that allowed the Aussies to get to 135-0. A sample size of 2 cricket balls doesn’t prove anything at all

And what about the 3 wickets they lost to spin? I don’t think a swinging ball helped with that…

It’s just whingeing Aussies as it didn’t go their way.

They got one changed earlier in the series and it did a lot more which resulted in a few wickets

The stupid laws say you can ask every 2 seconds if the ball is still round, which is a nonsense. Think you’re only allowed to ask twice in a county championship innings

What a test, what a series! Full of memorable moments and both sides were just excellent in providing high drama. Obviously the way England play is the main driver of why this series was so good. But credit to the Aussie bowling attack mainly for getting their side home.

Travis Head impressed me greatly, Marsh did so well to just walk in and get that 100+.

The rain obviously stopped England from making it 2-2 earlier. That would have set up the Oval for a 3-2 either way, which, in my opinion, regardless of who won, would have left this series above all other series beyond any question. Alas, England paid for some errors. The Lord's 2nd innings is talked about a lot, as well as the declaration, however I think England's batting in the 2nd innings at Edgbaston was the biggest error. England didn't stack up the runs that they should have and were a bit pedestrian.

One thing I will say though is that this "Bazball" approach was improved. England learned from their mistakes and were a little more ruthless going forward. They almost needed those defeats to make them a better outfit long term. They learned that results do matter too.

On to Broady, coming out to bat on Day 4 with Jimmy had me seriously tearing up, as did the fairytale ending which was inevitable as soon as the Aussies were 7 down. He's simply irreplaceable and I'm genuinely sad that we'll never see that Broad/Anderson partnership again. It was truly remarkable and we were privileged to be able to see it for 15 years.

I think England will kick on from this and become the No.1 test side. The batting is fine now. Obviously going forward the issue is the bowling department.

Stokes needs to sort his knee out to become the all rounder he was. Woakes almost took the torch from Broad and Jimmy. Obviously Jimmy will continue but I can see him retiring next summer too. I think he'll come back by the way no way have we seen the last of the best from Jimmy. He'll be seriously motivated to have a similar send off to Broad.

Talking of Jimmy, this talk of when did England last win in Australia had me reminiscing of past series and I was looking at match stats from 2006 onwards. Its incredible but Jimmy was in that 5-0 whitewash team in 2006-07. That's just mental.

That leaves our seamers being Woakes, Jimmy (for another 18 months?), Robinson, Wood (who is unreliable unfortunately), Archer (if we can ever get him fit enough for Test cricket), Tongue (who impressed me greatly) & Potts. We still also have the likes of Curran and Stone. We seem a little light in that department for my liking.

Questions also as to who the spinners will be in India, where you'd think we'll need at least 3 in the squad and 2 in the XI. Rehan should be taken and invested in for the future now. Don't like Leach and never have done, but he'll probably continue in a role. Leaves a question mark over the 3rd!

Jack Carson would be a bold, interesting choice
