Big sam seems to think a deal for Barkley could already be done ?
You would think considering he is now Everton manager, he would know if Barkley had been sold or not. If he's saying a RB might have agreed a deal for the summer he is just basing that is n the fact he won't sign a new deal and nothing more.

Last I heard Barkley is still some way from returning to play. I don't for one second believe he will be coming in January.

Just watched the Leicester and Watford games. Our defence looks uncharacteristically insecure; we're not shutting players down quick enough. Dier hasn't been great (was utterly woeful against Leicester), giving possession away and generally lumbering around. He's much better as a CB; with that in mind, we arguably need another CM. With Victor out (my god, are we missing him), we lack a genuinely solid CDM, one who'll hunt the ball and recycle it quickly, who'll screen the defence and fill the gaps. However, and Sissoko shows this, we also need a technically decent CM who'll control things in the middle. When Sissoko plays in midfield, we lose control of our rhythm and this alters the quick tempo of our off the ball running with players less willing to make runs when we're in possession. Lamela should really give us another option beyond Eriksen and Dele, but I still would love to see us buy a pacey, technically decent forward, someone like Salah but definitely not another N'Jie or GNK.

If Lamela gets fully fit we don't need Barkley. I wouldn't even have him on a free as it blocks any chance for Edwards when next season he needs to be starting to make the bench. If Lamela is fit he is Eriksen back up/rotation, we need a Kane backup who is dynamic and a Wanyama back up.

If anything this season has shown we need a lot more depth so Barkley on a free is a no brainier

Richarlison looks a player

I’ve watched him a lot but I think he’s still too rough around the edges. Would be frustrating to watch and would want to play every game.

I do like him, just not sure he’s right for us.

Not if Lamela is now fit. We need another striker to replace Llorente. Lamela would simply take Sissoko spot in squad.
Financially we can't just stockpile players, it would be Dele, Eriksen, Lamela and Son competing for two spots with Edwards and Shashoua having a pathway. The new quality dynamic striker backing up Kane and being sub option. Maximum we can and should do is two for every position, Barkley would be 5th choice for only 2 positions.

Even Man City who have more depth aren't stockpiled attacking wise if look at squad. Tactically they always start with 4 attacking players with 2 on bench. If KDB and say Sterling got injured B.Silva and say Jesus would come in and they wouldn't have any proven attacking player on bench.

Only way I'd have Barkley is if given up on Dembele and are going to convert him into a deep lying CM.

So we have 1 injury and suddenly we a short again and relying on Sissoko & Nkoudou.

It’s this sort of short sightness that’s had us struggling this season

Sissoko and NKoudou would be gone. If Dele gets injured Son comes in, if Eriksen gets injured Lamela comes in. If even Man City don't have more than 2 back up options for 4 spots why should we?

We'd have 6 top quality options for the 3 attacking spots, that means we're covered and it allows Edwards, Shashoua and Sterling to occasionally get bench opportunities and maybe even minutes now and then.

So your replacing Sissoko with Lamela & Nkoudou with Edwards.

1 has a very bad history of injuries and the other is a unproven youth player not deemed ready yet by poch.

Like I say a very short sighted perspective which currently has had us struggling and not learned from it.

I'm making the assumption that Lamela will be seen as fully fit, if not then yes replace him in the summer with Barkley. We don't need both of them and it's wasted wages considering we desperately need a back up to Wanyama and a proper top quality dynamic back up to Kane and bench option.
NKoudou is a completely wasted spot in squad and someone who won't ever start PL games so his replacement is irrelevant.

We're not getting a "top quality" striker as backup to Kane.

Even if it's someone who could play alongside him at times? Someone who could be trusted to start a game when he's not fit and most importantly offer a genuine goal threat from bench. This is one of the things holding us back.
