Wouldn't mind a bit of a shithouse formation. Plus I really liked the way we looked at the end of the Haifa match with both Davies and Reguilon on the pitch in a 3.

So I'd go with a 5-3-2 or a 3-5-2 (whatever you'd want to call it). As I think it completely nullifies everything United want to do. I can't see them getting their front 3 in behind against a back 5 and we can easily match their midfield 3 with 3 of our own. Then Kane + someone else up top will still give their defense a lot to worry about.

I'll admit it could make for a turgid match but I genuinely think it could give us our best chance at success so I'd rather win ugly versus our rivals rather than play pretty.

Something like:
Lloris
Davies - Alderweireld - Dier
Reguilon - Ndombele - Hojbjerg - Lo Celso - Doherty
Kane - Lamela
If Gio is unfit then go with Winks or Sissoko. Lamela is also interchangeable with a different attacker. Hopefully Gio is healthy enough to start and Son is healthy enough to make the bench.

I can't really see us losing with that formation other than dodgy pens which admittedly seems like a foregone conclusion, but should we be you can easily take off Davies for an attacker.
Did you put that team together whilst looking in a mirror??

Wow just Wow! Jose' has an enormous headache to pick his matchday squad with these players available:

Is that correct? Neither of our RBs (Doherty or Aurier ) travelled ? Even our cover RB (Tanganga) isn’t in that list!

Gio would be a massive loss, helps us tick, was missed vs Everton & helped us spank saints by coming on at half time.

Tanguy needs to step up from a creative point of view.

Makes sense for Aurier not to travel. Monday is deadline day. Still a bit of a question whether he stays or goes. So leave him home. Lo Celso being out is awful news. Could see us now sitting back. Wouldnt be shocked if Dele starts in a 352 with Hojbjerg and Winks deep lying and Ndombele off the bench. Imagine Vinicius and Gazzaniga will be the 2 left off the 18. Hopefully MEN just missed GLC, Tanganga and Bergwijn because now im worried.

With that being the apparent traveling squad, I think Jose will go

Lloris
Sanchez Dier Davies
Doherty Hojbjerg Winks Reguilon
Dele
Kane Son

Hart, Toby, Sissoko, Fernandes, Ndombele, Lucas, Lamela

I fear that this season we will have problems with Gio and his injuries.
I sincerely hope not. But if we have the space in our squad(if we get surprise outs), id hope we would cover ourselves and bring in Brooks in the EFL window.

Let’s get that centreback in before anyone else.Levy has done brilliantly so far,I hope he does not lose Jose’s centreback for the sake of a few million quid.

I’d go with

Hugo
Doherty Davinson Dier Reguilon
PEH Tanguy
Lamela
Lucas Kane Son

Lamela pressing like crazy until he tires, and then Dele to come on if we are looking for a goal. May a bit attacking, but I’d hopeful Lucas and Lamela’s defensive energy will cover for that.

I want to get Skriniar in too but I think the valuation difference is more than a few mill. Ally Gold says its £13m difference between us and Inter and I believe him. The gap, in a normal year, would be bridgeable as it isnt much in the scheme of things but in these times? It might not be. We could well be at our limit, tbh.
