My spin on "our strongest XI" would be the strongest available, In other words we would not pick usual 1st teamers who were injured, off form or just plain knackered! The statement is directed more towards the people whose contribution to this post every game is to say "our strongest XI have to play" and then make apocalytpic statement about what happens if we lose regardless of strength of upcoming schedule.
I also believe any rotation team should still be majority standard first team otherwise your rotation players get exposed heavily. But I'll take your point and leave it at that.
Too soon for Foyth for me. Saturday is the EPL and we have to win at home. I'd revert to a back four and keep introducing Foyth in the cups and later in the EPL season against easy opposition.Lloris
Alderweireld, Foyth, Vertonghen
Trippier, Winks, Davies
Llorente, Eriksen, Dele
Kane
If reverting to back 4 means 4231, then I would do anything before that. I'd even rather put Kane in goal and Lloris as CB to avoid 4231. If it means 442 pairing Llorente and Kane up top, then I could be interested. But in reality, I doubt very much that Bournemouth is too early for Foyth. He could handle it.Too soon for Foyth for me. Bournemouth had 2 attacking players injured in international break - no Josh King or Ryan Fraser.
So, hopefully lesser pressure on us & we get our 1st PL win against them
That'll also mean they will sit back more if they have less attacking threat, which won't be good for us.
Fair opinion to have. I don't think Foyth would have a shocker but I just think on balance it's a higher risk. Not that it validates my opinion but I reckon Poch will be minded the same way.If reverting to back 4 means 4231, then I would do anything before that. Maybe it's higher risk, maybe not, I'm unsure. But you are right thinking about risk, because both choices comes down to what risk one is fine with taking, since they are different in nature. It's either deploying strong players in a defence formation that's inferior to our preferred formation (risky), or deploying an inexperienced player in our preferred formation (also risky). Facing one of the weakest PL teams when they are missing vital attacking players thought, I would have gone with Foyth.Fair opinion to have. Thank god some of you aren't actually in charge of our lineup or our team would be literal corpses by December. :dead:
So much of the lineup this weekend for me hinges on who is available. Bournemouth have been woeful but I think they've also underperformed. I can't see Howe tactically setting up his team effectively to defend but he's also had 2 weeks to plan as most of his team didn't pop out for internationals. May also mean they're out of form. Hope to get that Wembley PL cherry popped.
I like:
LlorisPlay a similar lineup, though not exact, to what we will play vs. Spam in the cup and then roll out our strongest 11 vs. Madrid and Liverpool. I'd like to see Foyth but I also wouldn't mind a back 4 and swapping him with GKN or Son up front. If Wanyama is back I swap him for Dier here for mins and test how he feels then make a call on him for Madrid or Pool.
