If TA keeps getting burned for pace, Dier will be back in defence sooner than later.

Yeah fair to say Alderweireld has been very disappointing so far. Just seems like Vertonghen's inferior cousin. What we needed was someone with power, recovery pace and dominance in the air, and doesn't appear to have any of that.

Yesterday I watched Man City toil away to Crystal Palace. They could and should have been behind and yet found a way to sneak a late winner. Hallmark of champions the experts say.

We had a similar performance today and won't get anywhere near the same praise from our own fans, never mind the experts.

Give Dick Advocaat some credit for the way he set up his team. He did his homework, had us on the back foot, pressed certain players and you could see the work he did on the training ground.

We will get better and today I finally saw players willing to run beyond the opposition back four. The passes weren't always made, but the possibilities were there for the first time this season.

Last season Arsenal picked up 55 points out of 60 against the bottom 10 teams. They became a flat track bully and remain one. Can we do the same? If we do, we will be in the race for the top four.
No.
This is another transitional season as far as I am concerned. We are nowhere near top 4 standard.

Never wanted him and he's played exactly as I expected. He was promised first team football before he even signed, so he hasn't had to work hard to get a first team place on merit.

I'm saving judgement on the Dier experiment till after the City game, he's done very well so far, need to see him vs Silva, Toure and even vs Cabaye when we play Palace next week.
A good DM isn't about last ditch tackles, it's about positioning and setting the tempo, too many are rating him on the former.

They'll wait for him to make a mistake and then they can pounce and say "I told you so!!!"

Absolutely. MotM twice in a row At DM but he definitely can't play there. And wanyama. And blah blah blah.

He is our DM now. And a very promising one at that. That's cool with me.

If he doesn't dominate toure he ain't worth shit

I appreciate the pressure he's under but it's no excuse for him to have a shoot on sight policy and not release the ball when he's surrounded and has no where to go.

When he's surrounded, someone else is open he can't do it alone.

It's all gone to his head a bit. Today was the first time I thought he looked like he was feeling the pressure to me.

Fair enough, it's been a pretty meteoric rise to nations saviour.

He will settle down once one goes in.

It will. Wouldnt say it will break him to come out second best to toure though.
In fact he has more to gain than lose, if he can come out on top of that battle it could be the making of him in that position if not, well many very good DMs have come second to Toure. Personally more worried about How Dier will cope with the likes of Silva and Cabaye who can turn quickly and very smart in possession, but so far he has done well not doubting that.

Sorry, missed everything till now as it was my son's christening!
So what's the crack with Dier? Thought he pulled out of the u21's last season as southgate wanted to play him RB and he wanted to focus on getting into his preferred position at CB with us?
Change of heart from him then?

Let's focus on the squad and who didn't start today - no Rose, Bentaleb, Wimmer, Trippier, Njie, Erikksen, Lamela, Townsend, Dembele,

And he should get first team football because he is our best CB!

Yeah Gaz. You were screaming out for lamela and Townsend to start.

Such a numpty.

Incorrect, i said the team selection was wrong, to which you replied was a load of "shit" but now your admitting that the changes to that team selection made all the difference to Spurs in the second half.

That's being contradictory, something that you appear to excel at.

From the BBC:

Remember the days it was a joy to watch a Tottenham team featuring an attack of Gareth Bale, Aaron Lennon, Luka Modric and Emmanuel Adebayor? It is a far less cavalier team under manager Mauricio Pochettino.

Spurs, who went into the game having only managed three goals in the league, were dire in the final third for much of the match. Only once Erik Lamela and Andros Townsend came on did the visitors provide some bite up front. Mason's winner was the result of a great move, but also the only highlight for the London side.

They need a striker to help Kane and probably wish the transfer window was still open.

Good summing up of today's game and the season so far.

Southgate doesn't pay him as much as we do (y)

The boy done good though, certainly finding his feet at DM, hope he keeps it up.
