Still think we could have gone for Rondon as that option. He really knew how to hassle defenders, which opens up space for others.

As of now it looks like the type of player we'd really need. Admittedly I didn't want him in the summer, for similar reasons to why I didn't want Llorente again in thinking that with other new additions we were going to have the capability to play much better football. and wouldn't need such target men.

I think we don't want such players because they aren't "sexy" enough. We want technical bum-off-seat dribblers etc, but sometimes a bit of brute force can be of more use.

Poch needs to learn quick.
Every team outside the the top 6 will do exactly what Newcastle and Villa did.
We don't need Sissoko or Winks when these type of teams turn up and stick 10 behind the ball.
Eriksen or GLC could have started the game in midfield.

It’s not a new thing, teams turning up at our place and sticking ten behind the ball. If Poch hasn’t learned by now, it’s not happening anytime soon.

Played 7 at the new gaff in the league, with only one good(ish) side in Everton in opposition and yet we’ve already lost twice and struggled against Brighton and Villa.
Huddersfield is the only league game we’ve been comfortable in at the new place so far and they were beyond awful.

Style of play? Not sure we have anything set in stone. Not enjoyable to watch

In all honesty I think with the players we have we shouldn't greatly need such a player. When you struggle so much to produce good football on the pitch though, as we are now, those players are priceless.

Maybe not. But what you always need (unless you're Pep) is a backup plan.

I know many will disagree but just thinking about, do you know what's really funny? And this is coming from someone who sighed every time he came on, who felt down when I read he may be coming back and even though he made some great contributions last season which I'll never forget, I just didn't like what we turned into when he was on the pitch. In saying all that, I would have put Llorente in that team yesterday in a heartbeat. Lofting the ball to him and feeding off knockdowns would have been better than what I saw yesterday.

Not funny at all. Llorente gave us a different option.

I still don’t understand Poch’s thinking in starting Moura twice against teams who are going to set deep, but then leaving him on the bench for the game where he is going to have space to run into.

Yeah it's little decisions like these that annoy and confuse me as well. Like said before the City game also, especially with Son out too in that game you would think Lucas had to start. We were never going to outplay City, so the obvious best chance was to get in behind on the break with pace yet we had no one with pace to do that. Even more so baffling when you consider how effective that was last season against them at the Etihad. They don't seem like they're tough decisions to make at all yet Poch isn't making them.

And that is the laughable bit about the thread title we have no style of play.

Haha - to be honest it should have been style of play - identity - philosophy

You name it - its gone downhill and been replaced with shite

Norwich play far better football than we do. Why can't we play like that given our squad is so much better than theirs?

I said this the other day. Farke has them playing some really attractive football. Had they some decent defenders, they'd have likely gotten something from the Liverpool game.

Good thread. To anyone who would think it's based on yesterday's game, this was the case most of last season. No obvious style or structure. Add to that how Poch always seems to fail when setting up the team to begin with. Always a poor first half and then having to chase the game in the 2nd. That's one difference to how Pool and City handled last season. Win the game in the first half and then slow down/rest players. We're having to squeeze out every last drop of energy from our players game after game.

Exactly this. I think most of us (me included) used the World Cup excuse for our players looking like they were running on empty last season but we look just as tired after a restful summer and full pre seasons for most players.

We are very predictable, very easy to defend against, too slow in our build up, and extremely one dimensional. I’m hoping the arrival of Lo Celso and Ndombele will give us more creativity, but we’ll need them to hit the ground running from here.

It's unfair to put that much pressure on them but that is the situation we find ourselves in

We don’t have an identity at all

To be honest the whole Pochettino is magic is quite laughable.

Only once in his 5 seasons here have we actually played the type of football I expect from a football team.

What I find worrying is the there’s no urgency as if the team has been drilled to have patience but by doing this we have almost became too calm! Almost arrogant.

We’ve lost that zip and tempo!

Not one of our players is capable of playing a one fucking two it’s unreal!
Every player needs 6 touches before he moves the ball!

Now call me mad but this cannot be the players fault it must be a clear instruction from the manager to slow it down.

As professional footballers I am pretty sure they can all pass and move with ease!

Maybe it’s because he knows his teams burn out too easy?

Maybe he’s trying to keep them fresh by employing these new tactics instead of having the famed bielsa burnout?

There’s almost a fear of playing at tempo or a fear of shooting I would rather lose by 2-3 than play the way we did yesterday that is not a spurs team we don’t play without a flair or attacking spirit.

Poch for me has lost the players he has said or done something towards the end of last season that fucked it all, not sure if it was his comments on I may leave that has made the players lose than burning fire and passion they had to play for him or if it’s just one of those relationships that’s fizzling out.
