Yes. City could have hit us for 5 or 6 last week.

I’m mad but I watched it back yesterday to try and analyse a pattern city very well coils have destroyed us but on second viewing what I found interesting is the fact we actually did have someone who was prepared to sit and shield the defence which gave us a little bit of solidity.

Not sure about that, his first season we were decent gong forward but just couldn't defend.

I remember us being very turgid and AVB like at the start. I mentioned it in the Poch thread at the time I think. I've no idea where that thread is though.

There were a couple of games, Stoke at home for example but we were improving, remember the Chelsea 5-3 was in January

Yeah that was the turning point. The stoke game was the Kane Mutiny wasnt it. An absolutely diabolical performance. We need that harry Kane back now if you ask me. He should be tearing into his team mates today on the WhatsApp!

Said elsewhere it is a squad problem in that we don't have one single effective winger, Son, Moura, Dele and Lamela don't want to play that wide. It cost us 20 metres of the width of the pitch yesterday. George and Clinton both were not up to it and Clarke is two years off

If our fullbacks can't do the job then we need to use wingers.

I got absolutely slammed for suggesting we lacked this sort of player or another forward type player. How people can’t see this is exactly what we’re missing baffles me.

I am presuming Sess is that guy no? it does baffle me why we didnt sort out full backs if those are critical to Poch's game plan

They're doing what they are told. Doesn't matter if we had the world's best wingers, they'll still going to play inside the width of the box because that's what they're being instructed to do.

We haven’t played with a an orthodox winger since Poch got here, so it can’t be a problem that’s come out of nowhere.

Are we thinking that the system we will be using this system is a diamond?

If so I feel it's a matter of finding the right balance in the midfield to allow us to play.

For me Dier has to play as the base as he is the only player we have capable of the defensive responsibility allowing the full backs to give us some width. Totally understand Poch wanting to try Winks early though given his interest previously in De Jong, however Winks is not De Jong.

In the two central roles I feel Ndombele clearly takes one, the other for me will be shared by Lo Celso and Winks depending on opposition. Sissoko for certain games and as a bench option.

The point will be occupied by Dele as I think his movement and runs from deep are crucial to Kane. Lamela a bench option

If Eriksen is still here he rotates any of the three further forward.

I dont get this diamond business - I mean Arsenal did it against Liverpool but still lost.

I dont get how the diamond could be more effective, or what its advantages are, over the formation that bought us 'success' and one that seemed to work...

Just to add I completely agree, however I feel Poch believes in it and dont see that changing any time soon. Particularly when Alli returns.

The diamond is just an excuse formation to play Central midfielders in wide positions.

Can't think of one team that have ever used it successfully.
We've used it before (was it Ossie with the famous five?) I remember when England used to play it and Sherwood was picked left of the diamond and looked (as expected for a right footed Central midfielder) awful.

I can only think Poch thinks it's a way of changing our starting lines making more angles for passes but there's more to it than just picking players and telling them where to go.

I just dont know why he changed. I appreciate changing it when we meet teams where the diamond would be effective but no need against Noocastle at home.

Anyways I think it will be telling the game against Arsenal in terms of personnel and formation and how we approach it.
