Ahoy

While watching the Man Utd game yesterday, my mum asked me "who that one was", to which I said "Steed Malbranque" too which she said "Steed??? Is that a nickname?"...

My Dad then told me, despite having offices and a factory in Belgium, and having worked extensively over Europe, he'd never come across another "Steed"...

So... what's the deal with it?

Is it in fact a nickname?

Do you know a Steed?

Cheers

Chris

His father or his mother liked the Avengers series in the 70's-80's and called their child Steed after John Steed.

Steed may refer to:
People with the surname Steed:
From Wikipedia.

Looks like our Steed is the only person with that particular first name. If there was another one then they would be there, right?

All Steed's seem to have interesting jobs.

There's another thread about his allerged operation. Maybe it's a nickname indicating he has a thingee that's as long as a steed's.

Is the only source for this wikipedia because its hardly the most accurate source going.

Believe it or not, but the real story is that his Mum/Dad loved The Avengers so called him Steed, this was even discussed on french TV during a match he was playing in for Fulham at the time.

Ermmm coz his Mum or Dad like The Avengers series, FACT!

chuba ol' mate ol' buddy I hate to do this to you but...

From an interview with the man himself in hotspur magazine February 2007:

So it's not true that you were named after John Steed in The Avengers then?

No. I haven't heard this story, and it would be great if it was true, but that's not why I have this name. My parents always wanted a different kind of name, something that stood out, they heard this one and they decided to call me it. I don't even know The Avengers - I've never seen it. I don't really know where the name came from.

So there you are. Less colourful, but more truthful .
