The draw for the group stage of the 2023/24 EFL Trophy has been made, with our Under-21s placed into Southern Group D alongside Cambridge United, Colchester United and Peterborough United.

Oh superb. My son and I went along to Cambridge when they played them a couple of years ago. It was a great night out.

He's only been here 5 minutes? How messed up is our planning if we're tearing up a structure we only built three or four months ago? Daft club.

We are paying the price of DL not doing due diligence on Paraticci. He left Juve under a cloud but we seem to have ignored that when we hired him. It was reasonably foreseeable that what happened would happen .The structures are mostly his and now that he has gone they have to be replaced.

it doesn't have to be the football league in fact I am sure most u21 sides would struggle at that level - though the use of the loan system by some clubs to prop themselves up is questionable at times - the pyramid itself needs a rethink clubs having what could be effectively 'C' sides competing in the equivalent of the Northern or Southern Conference would be beneficial all round in my view
It's far from enjoyable in Spain in Italy absolutely doesn't benefit lower leagues just the big clubs. Also allows these big clubs to also stockpile players and prevent them from entering the league system properly. No thanks.

On Echoes of Glory thought you implied he was making positive changes to youth structure like contract changes, which would be beneficial. So ate you surprised at change and will it be detrimental in long term?
Indeed very disappointed and surprised. He was someone from the top level of the club that was actually approachable and visible. I’ve had 10-15 minute conversations with him on two occasions and he was more than happy to chat away. You can see from Donley Dads reply to my tweet that he was well liked by academy players, parents and agents.

What's your thoughts on Will Andyiappan?

As I think we may have had a similar discussion on Elliot Thorpe years ago, but Will is impressing the FAW and I believe he is a rare ball playing left footed defender.

Seems to be the stand out defender of his age

but because it doesn't work there it doesn't mean that you can't refine it to suit. You can avoid stockpiling really easily - what we have at the moment is the worst case scenario a system that fails the young players and you have still stockpiling of players playing in uncompetitive football which neither aids their development or benefit the clubs so instead we have yet another refinement of the u21s where the real need is to to look at the pyramid

Doesn’t he clarify his comments in a follow up tweet that he wasn’t being negative and was happy with the club.

Skippy is a sub again for the game against Israel tonight, sorry but the lad should be starting. Unless they're going for a more attacking lineup because it's Israel, but he was a sub against the Czech's too.

Germany next. Might be saving him.

You don't have the levels of stockpiling here as you do in other countries. Nothing close to it. Players tend to get sold off earlier and can develop in the lower leagues. The PL is currently not at all bad at producing youth players. An u21 system in the pyramid will benefit PL clubs but I don't think it would lead to better players being produced. This is not worth playing with the integrity of the footballing pyramid.
