This is the same problem ManC, for example, have. They just have more top quality creative players like KDB, Foden or Silva where we are very reliant on Maddison to create some magic.
Well they will have to show it. They are 1-0 down to a counter attacking Chelsea.

Thanks for saying this cause it once again proves my point about plan B.

Pep didn't need a plan B. City just got better at it.

We need another midfielder who can do what Maddison does and a WF who can beat their man and stretch the backline.

It's no surprise that with Maddison not being available or at his best, our chance creation has significantly dropped.

It is not a coincidence.

But having more options like that, which allow us to keep doing what we do, will soon see us creating again.

The thing is, this isn't 2005. Almost every team in the PL are technically proficient from 1-11, and are top-level athletes. Rarely does a team have a proper off-day, especially when they fancy their chances of getting a result, and are properly motivated as a result.

I think we did stage 1 of the rebuild very well. We loosened the shackles and the team responded with positive football. Now stage two has to kick in and we must balance that carefree attacking play with solidity - otherwise we are going to get turned over by well drilled (and genuinely good) teams like Wolves.
No doubt Gary O’Neill is destined for higher things.

It always feels like the end of the world in here when we lose, or aren’t playing well. That’s why it made me laugh the other day when Kane made that comment about losing a couple of games on the bounce at Spurs not being a big deal. This is the first league game we have lost for about six or seven weeks and all of a sudden it’s a disaster.

Don’t get me wrong, today was bad. But it happens. There was always going to be bumps on the road. Anyway, we have been beaten by Wolves at home two or three times over the last four or five years, it’s not like it’s unprecedented!

We weren’t good enough today but
we are still in a good position. I hope and believe we will hit better form again soon. In the meantime we need to take stuff like this on the chin, because Ange coming here was always going to be a process not an overnight fix. We tried the overnight fixes before and they didn’t work.

Wolves are a bogey team for us, and the loss of Udogie and Porro emphasised their strengths and how they like to play. The players look tired, a combination of the high intensity style of play, the injuries and suspensions combined with the international tournaments and we look half a step slower than we did pre Chelsea.

We need to use this week off to rest and reset
I agree, I don't think the Premier league has found Postecoglu out so much as we're not playing as well as we can or as we were and for the reasons you give. Of course other teams will highlight individual weaknesses, corners for example, and centre forward hold up play and they'll set up best way to counter us but ultimately it's up to us to remedy those weaknesses and get our groove back.

I'm speaking in general by the way as I missed today's game which is why I made no direct comment on it.

That’s what we are mate.
I can’t remember when we last had a comfortable victory. Last minute wins are great but the way we are playing more likely to let them in.
Arsenal were getting away with results for weeks. Then they started to lose.

Now they seem to have fixed it.

We need time

On my way back from the game. Like a few have said, Wolves added to the list of opposition that have most definitely been setting up to play on the counter and when disciplined and confident to play in that way it pulls off. However, we help with that, very slow coming out of the blocks and very frustrated with the lack of service to (no quick releases) Son on the left, especially in the first half.

As a fanbase we defo need to stay on board and contextualise: at the moment we are about where we should be.

Another window will help us out as well as a preseason to instil Ange’s style of play and have competition for places, like for like replacements etc.

When you don’t have a cheat code (City) or are not currently in a 6th / 7th year of a project like Arsenal you’ll get frustrating games like this. Defo keep looking forward as it’s only month 6 / 7. COYS

We have two, Werner and Johnson, neither of which can beat any defender sitting on the bench.

Weird how Ange left Son out on the left when he was pretty much MIA in the second half.

You don't need a plan B.

You need to get better at what you do.

The greatest coaches don't abandon plan A at the first signs of trouble, they double down and work harder to overcome the obstacles.

Far too many pundits have thrown around this 'plan b' idea over the years and it often doesn't take long before "they should get back to what they were doing'.

Ten Hag is a fine example. He started with his plan A. Shat himself and slowly went to a plan B which really hasn't worked.

You can only go to Plan B when you have the fundamentals fully embedded
I did caveat my post that the players are still getting used to our style. Ange clearly likes to draw teams out and play around them, creating space to attack into.

What he needs to do is find a way of playing against a low block which won’t press and be played around.
Essentially we need to be better in possession in the opposition half against numbers.

We actually started to do that in the 2nd half by passing quicker and with more purpose. For the first 15 mins after our goal, Wolves barely got hold of the ball. For some reason their goal saw us go back to slow passing and no one making runs between the lines. I thought taking Sarr off and playing Kulu and Maddison as no10s made this worse too.
It’s not all doom & gloom but that was a very poor 75 mins today.

Much the same as our set pieces today, do it better and it might produce a goal, keep hitting the first man....

But Pep also has a number of formations he uses; he regularly switches between 4 and 3 at the back for example.

Bottom line - we’ve been poor for quite a while , I thought the new players coming back would give us a lift and a better balance but yet to see any signs of it . All so predictable .

We’ve been playing poor for weeks, really concerning …
So true. But when we get late winners, everyone dismisses the performance.

That was shite. We are so poor with our tempo in possession. People bemoan not having creativity outside of Madison, but Madison looks a yard off the pace to me. So slow and casual. Not sharp at all.

If we keep playing start-stop and walking footy when we have the ball, then we wont get enough chances to win games. And our risky back line will slways give up a goal or two.

This is correct. The way to make a difference without changing the system is to have an excellent 1v1 dribbler on the wing and constantly get the ball out to him to run. That will force the opposition to double mark him and take someone out of the middle. Instead most of our play goes to Kulu who doesn't take anyone on the outside anymore.

We didn’t have a divine right but that performance was poor. If that is the standard we deem acceptable then what is the point.
Was poor with Kulu being predictable and easy to play against by half decent defenders so offering little threat for a large portion, Bissouma's poor touches and brain farts, Richarlison not having a picture in his head to enable him to play one touch football where its available, also he is hit and miss with holding up the ball. I wouldn't excuse it as rustiness with players coming back from injury as suggested in some comments. Wolves had their big player coming back from injury 1 match ago and he was decent till he got tired and they played as well as they could expect. Those players I have named need to be better.

It’s not the end of the world, but most fans hate losing to inferior clubs at home, in the soft manner in which it happened. We should be used to it by now, but it always feels a bit like a sucker punch to the balls.

Famously no other teams outside of the Premier League try to win games.
Or sit deep and play on the counter apparently. In 26 years of management, and despite often establishing his teams as the best in their respective league, we’re supposed to believe this is the first time Ange has come up against the low block.

Transition or not. These are matches we really should win.
If we had lost based on freak goals or big chances missed, this would not hurt so bad, but we were poor.

With the core back I expected something else, but we were not at all close to playing the way we should.

Let's just hope it's a bump in the road, not a permanent thing.
