But VAR does exist and like it or not, all three were correct decisions.
I don’t like VAR offside decisions where they draw stupid lines to justify someone may have been offside. But Kane was offside and it looked that way when he scored. It was clear - not a part of an arm that was off. They need to sort that out as it’s taking away from games at the moment.

Based on what? He's an option off the bench at best.
Because he can actually play football. He plays the triangles, he works hard and can do most things decently well. He was involved in a lot of good stuff. Problem is most people don’t know the basics of football. Yes there was a moment he played a pass that got intercepted but you build out the team with good ball players like we should be abs he will be part of that.

Chelsea wound down the intensity big time in the second half. Gave it the illusion of a contest for a spell around the hour mark.

Tbf though we actually put ourselves in three or four excellent opportunities across the 90 minutes, but barbecued the final pass/decision every time. I've said about this in the last few weeks and that in the final third individuals will need to improve.

Ultimately wheels on each flank and a player between the lines is sorely needed, we just don't have enough running power (from all angles of the pitch), coupled with that element of composure and quality at tempo/pace/on the run at the moment, and what Conte-ball heavily relies on.

First match since Conte has been Coach that I was disappointed with his approach. It was meek and risk-averse. I get there are injuries. But Being behind like they were, and it being a cup game, you have to throw caution to the wind. Instead, he waved the white flag far too early, in my opinion.

Was the match day thread always this negative when we were a mid table team?
I don't really remember on the forum but in the real-world, the disappointment was there, but I think it was more gallows humour, cause we knew we were shit.
Now it's something else. I can understand the disappointment, and don't mind partaking in the negativity when we've genuinely played like shit, but today was not that. I think the reactions on here are way ott, and a wee bit sad.

Gollini, Doherty, Tanganga, Emerson, Winks, Holjberg, Lo Celso just not showing enough.

Davies, Sanchez, Moura and Kane can in my mind come out of it with some credit.

Well in Jols days people thought we should be winning the league with such footballing behemoths as Zokora, a 14 year old Ziegler and Malbranque regularly turning out for us. It was very common on here for Jol to be called "tactically inept", and if only it wasn't for his shit coaching we'd be right up there.

Just further evidence that none of us know the first thing about any of it ?
I know that Doherty should be nowhere near the first 11, let alone playing left wing ?

The glory days.

This whole board went fucking barmy when we got into UEFA Cup for first time bloody ages. We had BMJ almost in tears doing an end of season on pitch thank you. I love Martin Jol booming out across the lane. Good times.

The entitlement these days is sad to see.

It's difficult watching us at the minute. Crying out for investment in the team, the problem being there won't be anywhere near enough of it to make a difference.

A real reality check tonight of where we are, Conte called it, a long way behind Chelsea. The quality of the squad is woeful. Conte won't sit long with this lot.

I've thought about 'muting' myself from football for a while, don't let it bother me so much as currently the negativity is out weighing the positivity.

That's not walking away, it's a period of self preservation.

No point being too disheartened losing 3-0 to that Chelsea team over 2 legs.

They started with a very strong team then had the nerve to bring on Ziyech, Kante, Thiago Silva, Alonso and Loftus Cheek..

Bar Loftus Cheek, the other 4 would start for most top 4 teams. They still had Pulisic, Saul and Havertz on the bench also for fuck sakes..

Contes system with wing backs requires really good wing backs and at the moment that position is hindering us most. Reguilon is our best natural wing back and even he's struggled. I have a soft spot for Emerson but he's a solid defensive full back, as an offensive wing back he's not great. Docherty is just useless..

We do really need 2 or 3 signings this window, and quality ones at that.

I'd completely written off Winks a long time ago, Conte has gotten a tune out of him though recently, he's looked very good to me. Issue is with midfielders is we have too many similar players, alot of jack of all trades master of none, especially now N'dombele is out of the question.

Tough times we need some signing though for sure.

A coach like Conte cannot get a tune out of them and surely Levy and Paratici can see this as well.

We need a right wing back, at least one centre back, two midfielders, a right forward option and a striker.

We need to go balls deep as soon as possible. Conte knows what he is doing. We need to back him or risk losing him.
I think unfortunatly that it will be the latter

From my spot high in the south that was simultaneously our best football for weeks second half and our most fucking frustrating procession of basic skill errors

Fair enough. I think we tried as hard as we could but just lacked creative and attacking quality and our defenders made mistakes in both legs. We had lots of injuries so couldn’t play much of a stronger line up really.
Don’t think any of the injured players would have too much of a difference. The goals we conceded were defensive cock ups but Chelsea weren’t able to pick their strongest team either and still had too much quality for us, as well as being a lot stronger and aggressive. I’d say we have as much quality in our squad (excluding Kane, Son, Moura, Lloris) as Burnley and we’d be near the bottom of the table without our four main star players.
