I just remembered something. We put an awful lot of energy into the Soton game with only ten men. And we didn't perform second half tonight. Coincidence?

To be fair, 7 goals on 2.1 xG is outrageous. Their finishing tonight was as clinical as you will ever see. Doesn't mean there aren't massive, massive problems at the club at the moment, but their finishing was genuinely as good as it gets.

I don't think I've seen another goalkeeper concede as many fucking side footers as Hugo does.

Bayern will never, ever finish as well as they did tonight. To hit 7 right in the corner from an XG of 2 is insane and would have made any team look stupid.

That xG is bollocks, only the first 2 goals were a better finish than the chance, all the others I’d expect to be put away
The BBC calculated it as even less than Caley did. Good chances still have xG value of considerably less than one when you factor in the likelihood of a save, block, or off-target shot. We had loads of good chances but had an xG of around 1.4.

Honestly I think most of the squad and manager should go and we start again. Although ENIC are ENIC so I’m even more worried

Levy won't sack Poch because it'll cost the club £25m to pay off his contract. And then replace him with another manager on a similar wage.

On top of that, ENIC are looking at a complete writedown (i.e. to zero) on the values of Eriksen, Verts and Toby at the end of this season.

That will be Levy's primary concern. But if Madrid or anyone else came in for Poch and were willing to pay any degree of financial compensation, then I think he'd bite their hand off.

Otherwise, the only way this ends is if Poch and him come to some form of mutual agreement in the summer.

That's the (unfortunate) reality.

Dier was at the heart of our team during our greatest period but apparently now he is completely beneath our current 11.

Not only is he probably our most positional adept player but he always strikes me as one of the strongest mentally.
I think we’ll see more of Dier but he’s been through a period of consistent injury and illness so probably isn’t quite 100% yet?

Tell that to Poch he will never drop Kane

I understand what you're saying. But Harry has every right to fuck off and go join one of the proper big boys and win every trophy under the sun.

He's fucking world class, and it kills me to say it - too good for us given how fucking pathetic and inept we've become.

Jesus christ. The excuse for tonight is their good finishing.
Do you deny that they were clinical? I'm hardly denying that we have massive problems but 7 goals on 1.9 or 2.1 xG is outrageous. Typically a club only manages to outscore its xG by five over the course of multiple matches, to do it in 90 minutes requires anomalously good finishing.

He's not. He's being sarcastic because everyone who has been saying this for awhile gets called knee jerk when its obvious to anyone who watches this week in week out that something hasn't been right for over a year now.

Thank you.

if strikers are in a position to place a shot side foot its because they have time and space as you side foot for placement. So you would probably be expecting to save fewer than average

Money and contracts. And we tried to sell Rose, Aurier and Toby. Now they're starting for us in big games. But they know they won't be here next season. How is Poch supposed to motivate them?

My main issue with Poch is his absolute reluctance on wingers. He has never used them and even our wide players like Son and Lucas he prefers them playing inside. We have seen today what having good wingers can do yet Poch chooses to make things worse by playing Kane, Son and Dele all on top of each other when we have fullbacks who have average delivery at best.
The same way Redknapp had Modric perform his best season for us despite sulking over missing out on a big Chelsea move. You make them believe that by performing their absolute best, they'll get the best possible move. If they still don't perform, you cut your losses.

There's been an air of naivite emanating from the club both on and off the pitch for quite some time now. I wholeheartedly agree about your issue with Poch's reluctance on wingers though.

Yeah it’s misleading. Normally that data would be right. But you need a DM to close that space and make it difficult. Those chances are easier if you’ve got space. And they had plenty.
