I always wonder in these situations if a ref tries to balance things up. Kane's pen was very, very soft so I wonder if he wanted to make ammends - shite if so but more understandable than the idea he watched the replay and thought "no foul there!"

You're probably correct but if that's the case then that's even worse, guy shold be demoted.

Wow. Even without a monitor that’s a blatant foul. To be able to double check on screen yet still not give it is shocking.
If he really felt that wasn’t a foul he shouldn’t be reffing anywhere near this level.

I mean, nothing else to say but the ref got it wrong. He should be embarrassed by that.

The VAR did his job today. He saw that Hojbjerg had been fouled in the build-up to the Brighton goal and told he ref to look at the screen. The fact that the ref didn't have the balls to admit that he'd made a mistake is nothing to do with VAR. That's what the system is there for and today it worked - or would have if it wasn't for a terrible decision by the ref.

Brede Hangeland on Norwegian TV made the important point that Scott missed - even if Marsh gets a touch on it, and it's an ever so slight touch if he does, the direction and pace of the ball doesn't change. That means Højbjerg is still in control, until Marsh's right leg smashes into Højbjerg's standing leg. If he got a slight touch with his front leg, the follow through is a clear as a sunny day foul.

Of course giving that goal isn't the VAR's fault, it's Scott's fault and his alone for being totally pig-headed.

Honestly there's no excusing the refs performance today, even worse that he got it wrong TWICE from close up views, both in real time & looking at screen.

He should be demoted next weekend if the FA had any integrity about them, but knowing our luck he'll be on VAR instead for one of our games

Did anyone lipread what the joker said after he made the decision to cover his own mistake, seems like he mouthed "he touched the ball..."

We are not idiots.

Even if he did, it was STILL a foul. Touching the ball and playing the ball are different things, hilariously bad

I watched the replays in sloooooow motion a few times now. Its PEH boot first.

The wanker was watching 20 odd times trying to "justify" a first touch by Brighton. Utter joker. The sad thing is the ref will never be likely brought to task.

I bet he is. Just like Steve Bankes was after Newcastle for the West Ham game.

I’m still shocked it was given. I don’t care we won anyway, I just can’t believe a ref gets a second chance and still refuses to change his decision purely because he was so close to the foul when he got it wrong. What an awful ref. He should ref in Hackney Marshes for the rest of the season as punishment.

It just illustrates the underlying bias against us. There’s no way the ref does that against another top team. No chance.

Football as we knew it has long gone. I was gobsmacked the referee allowed Brightons goal to stand even after watching that blatant foul on Hojbjerg.

This bastard should never referee ours matches. Everytime he does we get demolished by his decisions. Always book players for no reason.

He's one of the most biased referee in the league.
