Couldn't handle their press in the first half and then couldn't break their deep defence in the second. All around poor today.

Guy on BBC live-blog saying we didn't do enough to win it. We did. We had the ball in the back of the net twice, both times legitimately before they were incorrectly ruled out.

How many times do you have to score before you "deserve" to win? VAR is an absolute disgrace.
If we wear red and has the name Liverpool as club, the blog will read "Rampant Reds denied win by two controversial decisions"

I don't get why we persisted with 5 at the back when the game was there to be won

But it isn't 5 at the back. It's 3 at the back. The wing backs are flexible and do both attack and support. I don't think formation was the issue here. The players just needed to find the next gear but rarely did.

I think the problem is that we would have looked a bit clueless against anyone down to 10 men with everyone behind the ball. We saw samples of it at home to Palace just recently. There's enough enough fluidity and creativity.

Lets not forget that we were terrible when they had 11 men too.
I don’t think we were terrible, again we have to give credit to the other team. For some reason after 2 seasons of being shit and playing awful football we all of a sudden feel entitled to a win. We are the same team basically, this is a process and will take time, we still lack creativity in the middle of the park. But since Conte has came in we look so much better.

Beat Watford and Arsenal and it won't be a disaster this result but that's certainly two points dropped.

We started slow. Ok, no problem as I thought we were just being compact and waiting to go stronger later and we'd change it up at HT.

Not sure Conte got the right changes as I think Ndombele for Hojbjerg or Winks was the call to make but you can't blame him for not bringing him on.

But it's clear we lack creativity and another striker.
I think Winks played well and offered a threat.

When a keeper has control of the ball he/she is allowed six seconds before getting rid of it. In practice, they’re probably given about 10 seconds. If you review the second half, their keeper had comfortable control on probably ten occasions. He held it for maybe five seconds, then flopped to the floor where he remained for another 10 seconds. He then gets up and uses 5-10 seconds to kick the ball out. I really wish referees would stop this piss-taking.

I don't get why we persisted with 5 at the back when the game was there to be won

Especially when the decision was taken to put Doherty at left wing back. The obvious choice was to play Davies there or go more attacking and either shoe horn Gil or Moura there or switch to 433.

This kinda of decision borderlines corruption. I have no idea how was Doherty's jump considered a foul when he had no impacted Forster to lose the ball. He clusterfucked into his own net.

Forster got fucking lucky there. That's luck, if there's anyone still thinking we are lucky to have equalised.
Yeah I don't see how anyone thinks thats a foul. Doherty just jumps for the ball - he doesn't barge into Forster - and the keeper fucks it up.

If that's a foul then you may aswell change the rules to say opposition players can't touch keepers at all.

2 halves against ten men and no goals. Oh for a Christian Eriksen.
Technically 3 goals. The penalty, Kane's very questionable offside and the Forster OG where Doherty (who people are loving ripping apart for playing on his unnatural side yet still got into the box to have those chances and caused the issue for said OG) jumped and Forster bundled the ball out of his own hands and it went in.

Anyone questioning going after Vlahovic needs to watch that last 15
Yep. Absolutely.

As good as Son is, he isn't going to score many goals from the crosses we were putting in. Also need another attacker so Kane and Son can be freed up a bit and vice versa

Our away form is also massively worrying. We were lucky to be playing against 10 men because Saints were absolutely dicking us before the sending off.

Funny thing is, even though we were terrible against 11 men, there were far more openings in behind their defence and Saints normally always tail off in the second half. The moment all that space to play into was gone we were going to struggle even more.

I've said it before but we can't get away with Hojbjerg/Skipp (or whoever) in midfield with Kane, Lucas and Son up front, something has to give somewhere in those positions to allow greater control and creativity.

Conte got it wrong and that’s perfectly fine, he'll learn a fair bit from it.

Ref didn’t want us to win once the crowd got on his back.

Not sure why Doherty ended up at LWB and Gil at RWB. Seem too obvious to swap them round?

Yeah agree with this. Both are extremely one footed and wing backs aren't set up to cut inside. Weird decision.

I still think one of our problems is we just dont go for the throat like other teams. We still look like we wanna play at a nice easy pace and dictate the game at pedestrian level.
Example, if Arsenal, no matter how shit they're doing, play 45min against 10men they win. If they're 3.0 up they go for 4, 5, 6 as do City, Chelsea. We don't.
If we go behind our performance goes up a gear.
It shouldn't be 'going up a gear'!
We should start on the front foot.
These slow starts have been an issue for a few years now. The only time we dont start slow is against the top 4. Everyone else gets a free crack at our goal for 20mins.
Games like that you have to start taking shots outside the box and crossing the ball in to get a lucky break. A deflection here a bounce there and its a goal. Passing left to right for 30mins with 20 players in the box does fuck all. You're not gonna walk it in!
Very disappointing performance.
Proper fucked off.

Clattenberg was the referee expert on the tele and said the ref got it wrong but VAR doesn't get called in in that situation!!!
Why the fuck not?
The "clear and obvious" rule. It gives them the leeway to decide what they want to interfere in or not. It needs to go.

doherty awful, 2 disgusting shots, no idea what that punt in the air was when he was through, and awful touch for that 1 on 1, never want to see him again
Partly on Conte this one. He's been our worst player in a decade and today he's asked to play out of position to make him twice as shit. Could have put Davies, Gil or Lucas there against 10 men, or even change the formation. Anything to not put Doherty at LWB
