Strange, strange, strange. Never seen comments like this from a top flight manager before:

Gilberto was quite happy to come off. There's not really a way back for him here. The boy doesn't want to play here. He's a nice guy but just doesn't feel confident playing here.

So, nothing about his ability or temperament. Just that the player doesn''t like us...

Quite frankly he was an odd signing in the first place and hasn't had a good game for us since. I was stupefied to see him in the starting XI tonight...

I feel sorry for him. He never really had a chance to prove himself, he was never going to get anywhere playing once every cpl of months.

He's a Brasil intl for goodness sake yet he just couldnt get it together at spurs.

Send him home!

Shame really, couldve been a good utility player, obviously showed it for Brazil and in Germany...not really got the pace or awareness for the premier league, tonight was, or at least should be, the final nail in the coffin.

I don't think I'll miss him too much. The two performances of his that I can remember make me somewhat relieved he didn't get more chances!

He cost us the tie against PSV last season and almost got us knocked out today, that's some going for any player. I fully expect him to be back playing in Germany come 01/02/09...

I've seen him play for Brasil and always wondered how on earth he managed to get there in the first place. He adds nothing really, not a proper defender, shy with the ball, slow, really overrated.

A completely bizarre signing. Had a couple of decent-ish outings late last season (and did score one cracking goal), but why sign a crocked player as back-up LB in January? And why pay money for him when we could have had him for free in the summer? The mind boggles. Whose idea it was is anyone's guess.

Then, we had a solid, proven if wrong-footed LB that Random consigned to the Outer Darkness for no apparent reason.

The blokes I was sitting with in the Paxton had a bit of a chuckle about how we'd never have imagined ourselves yelling 'Get Benny on!' a while ago, but in fact 'arry held his nerve admirably, and if Bale looked nervy and confidence-shot he was an instant improvement in the second half.

To be fair, he gifted them a goal in the first leg, but what really cost us was our inability to break through a team that had determined to park the bus and hit us on the break. I can vividly remember Keano and Berba standing hopefully on the edge of their box while the ball went sideways, sideways, sideways before going back to Robbo for a hopeful punt upfield.

Having said which, he was abolutely hopeless tonight.

He's got to go down as one of our worst players ever. He was hoepless tonight, best bit was his attempt volley from the edge of the box, which went sideways to a shocked Hud.

Shocking words from 'Arry!! In that he must be causing problems behind the scenes/tonight with his attitude, for 'Arry to come out with this in public!

Oh well, I'm not sure what he's on, but a minimum of 10k a week for a years "work" ain't too bad for Mr Gilberto!! You can bet he's poisoned Gomes's mind too, being the only other national at our club that speaks the same language....well Rocha too.. I hope not, cos I think Gomes will come good.....but......

OK I'm ever the glass half full kind of guy, so maybe this meant

[QUOTEGilberto was quite happy to come off][/QUOTE]

He was probably getting a LOT of stick

There's not really a way back for him here.

Enough said

The boy doesn't want to play here.

Why would he given the amount of games he's played, rightly or wrongly.

He's a nice guy but just doesn't feel confident playing here.

Well that's a bye bye then from Harry, but why would he feel confident playing so few games ? OK I'm all for this players earn £xxxk per week so should perform ethos BUT he's not been near the 1st team for weeks so he must come into the team feeling less than confident which must affect his performance, which from what I saw on a dodgy stream wasn't that bad other than the mistake.

I was there... sitting on the Shelf with Gilberto on the flank infront of me... he was absolute dog shite... the other players (Bale and Thudd in particular) were also quite obviously not happy with his preformance... After one misplaced pass Bale stopped for a split second and seemed to be in utter disbelief!

Mate, as a former season ticket holder I will allways bow to the view of people who were actually at the game so as such if you say he was THAT bad throughout the 1st half I will have to reluctantly agree with the view that he was bad.

Sadly, he really was that bad. Bale and the Hudd were nothing to scream about, to put it mildly, but Gilberto gave an object lesson in doing fuck all, and doing it badly. Just utter dreck. I can forgive a bad performance if a player actually tries (e.g., the Ginger Pele), but Gilberto tonight…

I always look for positives, but tonight there were none, as far as Gilberto was concerned.

It was a really odd signing and I think everyone knew there wasn't a future for him at Spurs. By all accounts he is a nice guy and I feel sorry for the lad. He didn't have any confidence today you could see that, and it was an awful decision from Ramos last year to give him his debut against PSV.

I'll remember his goal against West Ham though. Good luck Gilberto.

Same here, so sad as I hate having to give OUR players bad rep
