Horrendous decision to disallow the goal and Norwood should have had his marching orders for two yellows in 2 minutes with that elbow.

Referee has had an absolute howler

Why is everyone so confused as to what the role of the referee actually is?

By the rule book, the goal was correctly disallowed. The problem is the rule.

See also: Sissoko penalty in the CL final. The issue was the rule, not the ref.

It was reviewed by VAR.

My whole take on this is that the referee on the pitch should make the final decision for the hand ball and the elbow, even if VAR says otherwise. There is a monitor pitch side for these eventualities but for some reason they do not use it.

That is what they do in rugby and it works really well.

Lo Celso dominated W Ham when Lamela came on and played as the link between midfield and attack. Today he’s largely been anonymous as it’s him and Sissoko v a Sheff U 5 man midfield.

Stop saying it was the correct decision from the ref!

What about the free kick from the foul he waved play on for?

Isn't that hand ball then if we are to strictly apply letter of the law?!?

Said it before that VAR has killed the atmosphere at games. Its only going to get worse, what with the 15 minute decision in the West Ham game last night and the laughable decisions in this game, any who can say its working is deluding themselves. It needs scrapping and reassessing because the current system is not working at all.

I thought it was assist or score, if we're being technical the UTD player smashed the ball off Moura's upper shoulder after the "handball". It wasn't a direct assist.

I definitely hope they come out with a definitive explanation of what the thought process was. Was it the initial contact with the arm when falling, or the contact when the ball came off the defender and hit it? Fuck knows!!

His arm lands on the ball before Egan kicks it against his back.

The application of the rule is correct (apart from the ref not giving a free kick), the rule is an absolute fucking farce.
Two things though.

Lucas is fouled first which leads to him (possibly) brushing the ball - the advantage should therefore go to us.

or at least a free kick.

Lucas' possible handball had no effect to where the ball ended up.

Now I know, handball is handball but a bit of common sense needs to apply in these situations.

The problem is the refs follow the law to it's strictest form which takes away any human judgement and then they end up just trying to apply the law even if it doesn't exist in a complete manner.

Most people agree who rated agree with post. But sorry you're right I've embarrassed myself on anonymous forum.

Come on it was very over the top
And a few rated my post as funny as it was intended as a joke.

I think we've been very average but you have to give credit to Sheffiled, they work very hard to make sure we have no time on the ball.
