Have a feeling this is a Conte pick and the club are reluctant so are trying to get it in their favour (loan with option) so that they are not left with him should Conte walk.

Haha I was being sarcastic yes. The reason for that is none of us truly know how much we have to spend, so it's a ridiculous statement. I have no clue what we have to spend, but I can assure you we have plenty of cash and as I've said before, if the right player comes along, we would not hesitate to spend over 30m. One of our prime RWB targets as you know has a release clause over 30m and that's what we would have to pay. It would just mean we would have to be creative with other incomings as we were last Jan to give us plenty of scope for the summer.

Would it not benefit everyone if we did the same sort of deal for Porro as the one we did for LoCleso which stopped PSG taking a big lump of the fee off Betis?

As for Malinovskyi, I'd really like to see a Youtube 'lowlights' compilation on him since I've heard it said that he can be lazy.

One of the positions in the squad we don’t need a first choice player - we won’t find better than Kulu. He’s not a superstar, but what you get from him at his stated value is appealing for January

Question is: do we want to back Conte and try to win now? If so I think he’s 100% capable to be a reliable squad option / substitute for Kulu. It’s the matches like yesterday where an experienced player like Malinovskyi rather than Gil only getting his first match in months can get us over the line. If we’re not ready to back Conte and try to win now, maybe you commit on a younger talent instead. I don’t worry too much about having another young player at RW though as they’ll struggle to feature regularly as long as Kulu is at our club

Agree that he may not be the priority we need. But if a 'creative deal' could be struck, I'm actually quite keen for him to come. He has such good strike of the ball I think can be really useful for us. And he provides great level of bench depth too. He instantly upgrades every single one of the substitute bench yesterday.

Malinovsky can play as backup for Kulu, I believe he plays there more often than not at club level, but also as a more attacking member of a midfield 3, as he generally does really well for Ukraine. In a pinch he could even be used as a false 9/CF if we had multiple injuries piling up.

He’s good on the ball, strong and will take a shot when other midfielders in our squad wouldn’t have the confidence to. He’s a quality set-piece taker and he’s got a wee bit of edge to him - something our fan base seem to like in a player - so would definitely fulfil the Conte requirement to get involved in the tougher and more defensive aspects of games.

If the fee is reasonable I think he’s absolutely worth having as a versatile squad option.

There are better options out there but it will be really annoying if we use the Lucas situation (long term injury, contract not being renewed) as a reason why we can’t add to the squad.

sadly Lucas shouldn’t get a squad place for the second half of the season if we are that tight for spaces

Probably worth the risk to add to our limited attacking squad options, in saying that it's first team players we need to add in other areas as a matter of priority, so hope this wouldn't impact on spending if it should happen.

If you squint at his name, it sorta looks like Milinkovic-Savic

Yeah not a fan of this one personally. The guy can strike a ball, there is no doubting that. But he's not good enough IMO to be competing for a starting place in the first team. The last thing we need is more average players clogging up the squad. As AC has said, there can be no mistakes made with the budget he's on. You have to be extremely clever with 30m ?
Will be another Dempsey/Siggurdson style signing for me. Completely agree.

Knowing our luck, we’ll sign Milinkovic-Savic for a club record fee and it’ll be the goalkeeping brother not the AM!

I gave you a funny for the last sentence, knowing that some on here are already running with the "30m budget reports"!
I mean, one daft tweet from PoK and it's become "reports". ?

Will just be another expensive player we can't shift when the next manager comes in
He earns €24k / week so not really expensive. Loan with option would make sense to me. He has that creativity we are lacking so much and if conte wants him then surely we should go for him. Perfect option for Dejan.

He's out of contract in the summer. Pretty sure Atalanta would accept £5m at this point. I'd take him if he'd accept an 18 month deal with an option. Definitely looks to be an improvement on Gil and Lucas and would help us against bus parkers.

If he’s available on a loan-to-buy for a low fee, and is on the low wages reported, this seems like a no brainer to me.

Offers more than Moura off the bench, and you just know if he ends up somewhere like West Ham he’ll score against us every time we play.

If we were to sign Ounahi as a cm, and a rwb in Porro then adding him as a budget, short contract type could be useful.
he’s a shoot on sight type of player which not only can be useful in itself but also leads to more corners (we lead the league in goals from corners I think), and if we need a goal his type of threat also leads to defenders throwing themselves at the ball (handball) as well as the chance to play a 1-2.

Sure he’s not a complete player and his arrival shouldn’t bring much fanfare. But if we had him, Porro and Ounahi I’d be much happier than Gil and Lucas.

That said, I’d still prefer Maddison by a mile

He's approaching 30 so will not accept a short term contract, and his wages will be tripled. He's not moving to us to keep his current pay.

If we’re signing players approaching 30 they need to be top players, not a bang average one with a good left foot

I think telling Atalanta he’s too old for a fee should just about do it. Surely they will relent.
