Think you might be wrong as Barkley turns 24 in December and that is the cut off point for compensation. So next summer, as a 24 year old he could leave for nothing.
This is a good point, and came up with Berahino.
It was understood in that case that a player has to be 24 at the start of the season, in order to be a completely free agent domestically.
Perhaps someone can shed light on the matter?
