It's pretty clear his career at Everton is either over or going nowhere fast. He can't afford another year without progressing as a player, so something has to give.

I think if Arsenal wanted him, they'd just do it. Our interest is pretty obvious and they would know Levy is likely to wait until the last minute, so why wouldn't they just bid for him?

Quite so, quite so. Pair that up with one of the strictest managers when it comes to muscle/body fat ratios. Ai ai ai, there is work ahead for Barkley if he does move to Spurs.

For me: what is said above along with lack of defensive interest and knowledge, lack of positional awareness when not on the team in possession. Basically, everything fans held against Chadli.

Let's say that is the case then we'd have to question how does he become seemingly Poch's no.1 target?

That's what I've been asking my self all summer.
However, having stated what I view as obvious reasons not to sign him, there are equally obvious reasons to sign him. Mid-twenties, English player with abundant PL experience. I just don't think he is such a clear cut fit as plenty of fans seem to think.

Poch done alright with Walker so there is definitely hope for Barkley
Took poch many, many months just to get Walker to take on 1v1s to the limited extent he now does.

Barkley's not as scatty as Kyle - if anything, kyle is just too goddamn wired - he seems to just be an awful, awful reader of situations and often just can't seem to see the game in front of him and make obvious high-percentage choices.

I'm just done with frustrating players who can't just get it. Who can't make simple, potent decisions on the field.

He's a monster, physically, and is combative and has drive and decent pace, but we need players with real football savvy for the game we now play. imvho

If he goes for £50m I think most people would give Levy and the Club a pass, he's not worth that on a 5 year contract IMO.

But if he goes for reasonable money I dont think its out of the question that fans question why we weren't able to get the deal done. And Levy's obviously a main player in that.

It's irrelevant if anyone on here rates him or not.

So basically the moaners get to have a good whinge one way or the other.

Have a moan if he signs because they don't like him.

Have a moan if he doesn't sign because it's Levy's fault.

How convenient.

There's the player and his merits, and there is the process of securing a transfer, both are open to scrutiny. Or is Levy beyond criticism?

But both aren't mutually exclusive which is what you're implying. Unless someone has an issue with one and not the other but that's not the argument. You began the argument with someone stating that's it's odd someone could not rate him and then complain about not getting him.

For example I just posted in the Josh King thread that I wouldn't mind if Everton nipped in and took him because I don't rate him. It's a pretty easy thought process. We have finite resources and I don't want them used on players I don't rate. That's personal opinion, but that's the way it is.

How someone could complain about trying to get a player they don't like and then complain about not getting them is complaining for the sake of it because it defies fairly simple logic. It's could barely even be considered critical thinking.

It's like telling your wife that you really don't like that dresser at IKEA and whining about how much it costs and how it wouldn't fit the rest of the decor and then when she comes home without it you yell at her. Unless that's how you roll, and I suspect it may be the case.

I said lets see how it goes. Meaning if it turns out we could of had the player for a reasonable price but then tried to play hardball and another team came in and nicked him for the same money it could be criticised. I dont see why not rating the player would ban anyone from the right to have concerns about the way we negotiate for players.

I didnt want Sissoko, but when we signed him I was pleased that we'd backed Poch with some cash and was willing to give the player a chance. Slightly different scenario but the same type of logic.

Swansea City have confirmed Sigurdsson will not travel on their pre season tour because he in isn't the right frame of mind due to the uncertainty of future.

This, coupled with Barkley miss Everton's tour, you'd expect to see some movement soon.

This leads to an interesting question. Which was the last of Wenger's acquisitions to improve as a player after joining the Gooners?

Maybe Koschielny, cant think of anymore. Cant think of any that havent regressed to be honest, apart from Sanchez
