Keys' story doesn't make sense.
We were in for Janssen and Wanyama as soon as the window opened. As such, they must have been our #1 choices in each position. We know Poch has been a big Wanyama fan forever, so he must have wanted him, and presumably we'd have held out on buying Janssen for several more weeks if we had another CF in mind.
I also think we moved for Nkoudou quite quickly, even if it took weeks to get over the line. Pau Lopez was recommended by our goalkeeping team, and Poch is their boss, so presumably he was all over that too.
Isco was always a Hail Mary, and we tried hard to get him, but Poch has said publicly that it was never really that close to happening.
That leaves Sissoko. It does seem possible he was our #2 choice behind Zaha, but it's pretty clear that £30m wouldn't have gotten Zaha and that Palace weren't in a position that they needed to sell.
So Keys story rests on the idea that Poch is freaking out because we weren't prepared to bid £40m+ for Zaha.
Meh. It's almost certain we got 3 of our 4 #1 targets, and our #2 target in the final position. That is a perfectly good window, and it's not really conceivable Poch is so unreasonable to be throwing a hissy over it.
