I really don't know why people think Pekhart is good enough for a place on the first team bench. He's never been that good when I've seen him (8 or 10 times now). But he's young so there's still time.

I see Chris Gunter is in the squad. I find that more interesting because Hutton is Cup-tied for Thursday so will we see TT there and Chimbs at LB or O'Hara at LB?

Hi BOF - interesting points - I certainly wouldn't start Pekhart

re Gunter he's ineligible for our next two games - so makes sense to give him a run out I guess

who plays full backs on Thursday is a big guessing game - Lee and Gilberto may feature too

Good spots. Also interested by the absence of KPB. I wouldn't have room for him in my squad for either of the upcoming games, yet he needs matches.

Hi Bill - thanks for that :)-

KPB may well still be injured

No Rocha or Kaboul... both need playing time. Will they be used this week? Lee also... doesn't seem to be in favour with JR, yet hasn't been dropped as Huddlestone was. Taarabt also, looks like he'll make the bench this week.

No Berchiche... Injured?

Hi james - Berchice played for the U18s I think the other day

I wouldn't be surprised to see Kaboul/Rocha/Lee used v slavia

we have a big squad - it's a game to use it - but as usual I go with JR's judgement - who he picks - that's the best pick

Kaboul and Lee should really get a run-out on Thurs. Really hard to see Slavia scoring two against us at the lane so we can rest a few.

As somebody else said though, we're constantly surprised (and mostly pleased) by JR's selection. Keeps it interesting !

I'll have to try and get to a reserve game sometime as I'd like to see Rose and Townsend in action in particular!

Would be interesting to see how they line up as both are left wingers aren't they?

I'm also surprised that Gunter is in the reserves as he's been good so far so would have had him in the seniors, possibly even in contention to play left back against Prague - unless Gilberto is maybe nearer to fitness than we thought...

Hi DJS - Gunter isn't registered to play in UEFA - we reg'd Pekhart (hence he may be on bench) Gilberto & Woodgate (from memory)

Sometimes a player may not exactly be shining in the Reserves due to the players around him or that the tactics being played may not really bring out the best in him. But when new coaching staff arrives, they may see something different in him that they think matches what they want in the first team squad; and so a promotion. O'Hara's sudden rise is a case in point.

Cheers for the info mate - that's pretty odd though woulda thought we'd have registered him? Strange decision by the club there!

Yeah sorry I worded my post a bit wrong there - I would like to have maybe seen Gunter play in the Uefa Cup (it was more my opinion rather than what is actually happening!)

I agree.

Young Pekhart seems to be doing fine in the Czech U-21s

Hey DC, yeah I can see the logic by the club in that. Never knew we had restrictions on who we registered although I do seem to remember knowing something about a dealine to register them by...

yep - the UEFA eligibility rules are pretty complex - there are a few on here who do understand them in all their glory (not me - but I'm learning)
