It was vitally important we went into this break with a good feeling, European Transfer Window closes 2mo & our players can enjoy some time with their National Team, Everyone injured currently should also be very close to being back after the 2 week break, Looking forward to seeing Sess get some game time
These are Spurs players we're talking about here! Guaranty they will come back injured. :cautious:

Looking at our squad we have plenty of reasons to be cheerful. Our midfield and attacking options are up there with the best in Europe this season: Kane, Son, Ndombele, Eriksen, Lo Celso, Lucas, Alli and Lamela...that's a disgustingly good set of options. We have pace, technique, power, nous; a bit of everything except a tricky dribber a la Zaha. If Poch can actually find a system that suits our players, we really should be a shoo-in for 3rd place (obviously we won't be up there with City and Pool). If we had a top DM and a proper RB we'd have such a brilliant squad this year.

Something else to be cheerful about is the state of our rivals:

- Man Utd look horribly thin in attacking/creative options. They really shouldn't be a threat this year.
- Chelsea are playing some nice stuff but they're conceding so many goals and are relying a huge amount on their youth. They will have an inconsistent year.
- Arsenal have such a good forward line but are stupidly top heavy. They'll be our biggest threat but will also drop silly points.

With the players we have, even if Poch is dicking around with the formation, we should comfortably be finishing above at least 2 of these teams.

A week off now has come at a good time for once. Get dele, tanguy and sess up and running, and Another punishing week to get lo Celso up to standard, or is he in the argie squad?

Im positive. Just not on Eriksen. I've seen all I need to from him to know whats going to happen.

If he wants to leave then we can’t stop him. So let’s look at the positive that we have him for at least half the season. If he combines well with the new signings (as well as with the other attackers in the squad), he might have a change of heart, especially if the big clubs (that he wants to move to) aren’t interested in him.

A lot of stock seems to be placed, by the media anyhow, but we all know how they try to create news out of nothing, on Poch’s meeting with Levy last week.

I do find everything around that quite strange. Anyway as I see it, it’s good news we have a strong character like Poch who has a good record with us to back himself when in confrontation with Levy. We know how he has treated managers on occasion in the past.

Poch said in the post match interview about three times that he’s an emotional guy and I suspect he’s talking about his interviews there at the back end of last season. He’s apparently said he’s going to have a party once everyone is back from internationals so it seems the last few months haven’t been easy for him. That’s the way to do it. Get everyone together and get them enjoying themselves, get a few of the injured players back and the new ones up to speed and really hit the season running again in our next game. For once the international break will be kind to us with any luck.

If you're going to call the thread 'Reasons to be Cheerful, then I think it only fair I respond in Ian Dury fashion.

I have faith in the entire squad, so my reasons to be cheerful this season are as follows...

Tanguy Ndombele;
Lo Celso and our Dele;
Poch (calmer on the telly);
Jan's back.
Christian is remaining;
Sess has started training;
Erik needs restraining
(near Jack).

Our last-gasp hero Moura;
Harry our top goal scorer;
Toby with his calm aura;
and Dav.
Hugo with the gloves on;
God, I fucking love Son;
Et Moussa, il est tres bon,
le brave.

Winksy keeps it ticking;
Eric enjoys kicking;
And Dan with his man sticking;
Ben too.
Gazza, our back-up keeper;
Foyth, a future sweeper;
Skipp, who plays best deeper
('tis true).

Reasons to be cheerful.
Reasons to be cheerful
Reasons to be cheerful
Reasons to be cheerful. One, two three.

:singing:
Bravo .

Made me feel nostalgic.

My reasons to be cheerful:

I’m looking forward to Sess putting the after burners on, when we counter attack!!

The longest transfer window ever, is finishing.

We are running out of right backs, so the haters are running out of someone to blame. The confusion will be fantastic.

The quality and depth in the squad should tell, come the end of May 2020.

Also, although performance haven't been great the results themselves have been good. One home win and stealing a couple of points from our top-6 rivals at their place; not too bad at all.

Finally, in the PL we now have...

Palace (H)
Leicester (A)
Southampton (H)
Brighton (A)
Watford (H)

...before the 'bonus' game of Liverpool. So it's a great chance to wrack-up the points.

COYS!!!

To be extra positive we also lost the city and arsenal away games last year. So based on season to season results we are two points up. Quite a few don't think of that. That's two very tough away games out of the picture in the first month.

I agree. We're in a bun fight for 3rd and 4th with Manchester United and Chelsea looking a bit rubbish. This team and this manager needs to be finishing above them, no excuses. I saw the Man U Saints game, Man U distinctly uninspired.

I do think we'll look better once our squad is fully available again. We're still struggling with a lot of injuries and/or players just returning. Plus as you say the likes of Ndombele will take time to adjust but once it all falls into place I think we'll be OK. We need to get a proper RWB in ASAP though.

1. Tanguy Ndombele
2. Giovani Lo Celso
3. Ryan Sessegnon
4. Christian Eriksen
5. Mauricio Pochettino

And ultimately...

6. I still get to go watch Spurs every game.

Except we're not, since we won at home to Newcastle last season, so actually one point worse off.

However I agree that it was very important not to lose against the scum, as they'll probably be our biggest rivals for the top 4.

Hopefully the players settle down now that the window is closed, and Poch and the squad finds some positive energy, spirit and togetherness again.

Take your “no excuses” talk to a different thread. Not cheerful enough.

We don’t get going until September. And then we go on a massive run of wins. It’s always the same. Let’s look at the table after 10 games. Clean up the bed sheets and say no more about it.

If Juve are gonna spunk cash on Aaron Ramsey then you've got to imagine someone will want Eriksen on a freebie.
