what a weird game.

to all those who criticise sanchez at rb. at least he can f defend. he should have come on as cm and sissoko moved to rb.

the future looks good though because it shows trying to offload rose and aurier was absolutely the right approach, we'll be flying when we rely on the likes of sessegnon, foyth and kwp instead of these jokers.

I've said this for some time now Sanchez should be our number one CB . I am serious , Vertonghen Toby partnership is totally shot.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino speaking to BT Sport: "I don't need too much time to explain. We played 30 mins well, started well, pressing high. But we were unlucky that we conceded in the first minute of the half.
"They were very clinical. After we scored the penalty for two we had chances to score the third. But from the 83rd and 88th minute we conceded three more goals.
"In football it can happen. Every single touch went in. We are very disappointed and very upset but we have to stay together. I think we are strong in our mentality.
"Maybe you are bored about my speech but football is today not yesterday. It is always is about the show. You have to do it today and tomorrow. It is not about experiences and what happened three months ago.
"We are disappointed. Every single touch from Bayern was clinical. They scored with every touch. It is tough to accept. You have to move on.
"This type of situation you have to face. It is tough and you need to be strong and keep going. Stay together, help each other and be all together. When you receive this type of result it is important to bounce back and believe in yourself. It is the only way to recover."

it's true we werent that bad. but carrying players with a weak metality.. rose should be at the peak of his potential now yet he has gone backwards. aurier has all the tools to be a solid player but is sliding in and missing everything when he should be tracking the player. basic stuff. we're carrying players in the fullback position that seems to be the most important position these days.

son was our best player he was running around trying to press like a soldier

Poch has to take some of the blame we were far to open the full backs weren't protected enough that's when you expect the CB to be barking orders. As a football club we've come so far CL but to be embarrassed like we did could send us on a swirl. I just hope Poch is given time to build another team and move certain players on.

A few observations from the highlights:
1) Full backs not of sufficient quality for this level; not talking about mentality etc etc; just purely not good enough, and is unlikely to change.
2) As the home team and with the last few results Poch did the right thing with an attacking approach; but no follow-through from second half suggests lost belief and lack of leaders on the pitch.
3) Gnarby's goals were all solo goals; credit to him. However CBs were either beaten easily or couldn't recover; age is starting to show.

Stayed rooted to my seat for ten minutes after the game as I could not take in what I had seen.

For thirty minutes we looked the better team. If Son or Kane had finished like our opponents did in the second half we would have been two or three ahead. If rating players then many would score highly. From the start though they like sharp in attack. The game seemed to change after about thirty minutes and for the last ten minutes of the first half we could not get the ball back. The second goal then changed the whole attitude of Bayern. By the end they were just closing their eyes and shooting from anywhere and scoring.

The whole team must take the blame for the way we crumbled. But Aurier is always an accident waiting to happen. I praised him against Palace but pointed out his failings against Leicester. Today a top side with world class players showed how poor he is. Winks too was a liability. When he does simple stuff he is good but then he suddenly things he is Dembele or even Messi and tries dribbling from in front of the back four. Inevitably he gets brushed aside and leaves the defence, minus Aurier who is always somewhere else, exposed. Personally I would have had Dier on when Ndombele went off. However in the second half we stopped playing as a team, stopped making runs, stopped supporting each other and Bayern just passed through, over and round us.

No man of the match for me

We had the most goals scored in the league and the fewest conceded when we had peak Walker, Rose, and Wanyama. Fast forward to this season, and we have no right back, no Wanyama replacement, and Rose is several levels below where he was. We have to do something ASAP to replicate that 16-17 spine/defensive flanks. Move Sissoko to RB, get Dier or Skipp in with Winks out, and buy a DM+LB in January.
(I only didn’t mention Dembele because N’Dombele rocks and is somewhat of a replacement. So fun to watch.)

Also, props to Bayern. That was one of the most professional, ruthless thrashings I’ve seen in a long time. Should’ve been 4, maybe, but 7 is a real credit to them.

that season Rose played a part in 18 games, Davies played 23. Walker played 26, Trippier played 12. it gets pretty tiring people banging on about our Walker & Rose partnership. At the end of that season in our last 15 league games we won 13 lost 2 with NO Rose, the same period Walker played 8 involved in both losses, Trippier in 6 and Sissoko in the other. we played with Toby - Dier - Jan at the back with Dembele and Wanyama in front.

so we concede 7, Aurier was to blame for 2 of them, so he is your main scapegoat is he? Rose passed crap, Toby gifted them a goal or 2 along with Jan, and Winks assisted 3 of there goals. it was very poor, after 20 minutes the press stopped, we had no DM, and played a way too high line, and to narrow when defending

LLoris - 4 - didn't look like saving any shot tonight.

Toby - 4 -
Jan - 5
Serge - 1 - pretty good in the first, diabolical in the second. When will he learn to stop going into tackles needlessly? Could've also been sent off for being an idiot and stamping on a player.
Rose - 1 - just horrible from start to finish aside from getting the penalty.

Ndombele - 6 - would've gotten an 8 if not for his silly mistake gifting them the lead. Still our most creative player.
Winks - 2 - worst game I've ever seen from him, just terrible.
Sissoko - 5

Son - 4 - goal aside, poor finishing.
Kane - 4 - just doesn't get involved enough.
Dele - 1 - hopeless.

Subs did nada.

Poch - 0

I hate to single out individuals after a disastrous result like this one. It was an abject surrender by the team. Clearly something is broken. Poch’s game plan has been worked out by the oppo and he hasn’t changed tactics. That diamond is ridiculously inappropriate for the players we have. WTF is he doing? The players seem lethargic and uninterested. We are playing in silos. The front three off on their own. The MF fucking about. The defence trying to play the ball out the kamikaze way. It was ugly to watch. I hope we draw a line under this but I wonder. Hard season ahead lads.

I thought Dele was ok - his movement is still head and shoulders above anyone else, and it was noticeable (first half) how much space was created for our other attackers.

Aurier is not good enough. Nowhere near. We've had brainless fullbacks before, but there's generally been sufficient athleticism to make up for that. Aurier wasn't even close to their wingers.

For various reasons that was the first game this season that I've been able to sit down and watch the whole 90 minutes.

I've been reading a lot of criticism on here of the diamond formation so I was all ready to get what people were missing and how Poch was way ahead of all the keyboard coaches.

Well, turns out you guys were right. The ironic thing is that it would probably have worked a treat when we had Walker & Rose playing well a few years ago. I think it could also work if we weren't defending much in a game.

But against a side like Bayern it was a fucking suicide note. The OP said that every Spurs fan should be embarrassed and I'm sad to say he's right.

I'm an optimistic sod who supports the team no matter what. Some of the more reactionary posters would lump me in with the 'happy clappers'.

But that was just unacceptable. To me it's not rocket science that the drop off in results and particularly in defensive stability has coincided with the loss of Dier. Now whether or not you rate him personally it surely shows that we need a shield in front of the back 4. I love Winksy but he's being set up to fail in that system

I'm also not one to slag off the players, criticism is fine but I hate to see abuse. But bloody hell it's hard with Aurier. I don't think I've ever seen a player whose raw talent is so far above his output. He's got the tools to be world class but the nous of a 10 year old. And a couple of times last night he chucked the towel in which is unforgivable.

Yes, we started well. But that's in spite of the system not because of it. There are true Spurs out there on the pitch who are being let down and it has to change fast before all the hard work of the last 10 years goes to waste.

Can't be arsed to rate the players as I'm still in shock but voted Sissoko motm as he had to do his job, cover the clown at RB and still find the legs to get forward.

I'm off for a lie down.
