1. Please offer Eriksen anything he wants.
2. Actually my fav moment before the end bit where we actually scored and won was Winks' tackle then recovery then little sidefoot

Lloris - (6) Not much to do. Can't really fault him for the goal.

KWP - (7) Showed himself to be confident going forward and stable enough on defense. Got spun around on defense once, but nothing came of it. Sterling will be a test. Will be interesting to see how farhe pushes up pitch against City.

Toby - (7) Steady game. Calming influence.

Sanchez - (6) Ok game. I'd like to see more Mostly steady play from him on the back end and some more consistent contact on headers from corners. He did try an ambitious attempt at goal in the box from a cross.

Rose - (7) Seems to be a lightning rod player again for the fans. Had a few nice early crosses. Worked hard to track back in the goal against then slipped. He is what he is.

Winks - (6) Was playing well until he picked up that knock. I have to think it bothered him more than we know. I, too, would like to see a few more ambitious passes per game from him. Not a ton, but some.

Sissoko - (6) Looked like crap out wide. Different player inside. Some frustrating indecisiveness led to missed opportunities. Overall he brings something valuable to the team when playing inside.

N'Dombele - (8) After a little rustiness/nerves early on he looked aggressive and talented with the ball. I didn't get a good look at him defensively

Lamela - (7) Most of this rating was derived from picking Grealish's pocket and staying healthy. His corners left me underwhelmed

Moura - (5) Just not his game. Got swallowed up inside. At least looked more lively out on the right after the formation switch. Needs more space to show his true abilities.

Kane - (8) The goals were his typical cool, calm and collected type, and he even put in a few nice crosses. Didn't do too much of note otherwise.

Eriksen - (8) Whether it was the formation change or his subbing in, there was a noticable change in attitude and aggression for Spurs. Great free kick take. Some shit crosses (duh) and I think one decent one (two?) as well. Hope he signs or GLC has similar game changing abilities. We need that type of player.

Skipp/N'Koudou - not enough playing time to rate

Poch - (6) The diamond. Stop it. TIA.

1. V interesting to me that Poch took Winks off, rather than Sissoko or Ndombele, even though he (Winks) was playing well. Suggests he maybe sees those as the midfield 2 when we revert to 3 behind HK. Lot of power in that combo.

We didn’t need Winks as much when Eriksen came on and Winks also got a knock in the first half. So might be a bit too early to say who is the preferred pairing in CM. I think it’s close between them. But it made sense that Winks would get subbed off this time, especially because we had all the possession. He is the weakest offensively between the 3 of them.

I like Winks but I didn't think he was great today, bar one spectacular clearance and turn.

Eriksen replacing him made a huge difference.

It was day and night when Eriksen came on. After that, I just assumed we were going to win. And, infinitely more importantly, since (luckily for us) I'm not out there on the pitch, the players did clearly too.

Why sissoko 5 mate he was fine.
Kane 2 goals only gets a 7.
Sissoko was awful first half. In positions to cross and doesn’t and have fouls away non stop.

Kane came alive the last 15 mins but was quite before ( mainly due to the midfield behind him tbf. )

Just my opinion though

Lloris 6 - had nothing really to do

Walker Peters 8 - impressive, full of energy and caused Villa problems especially in the first half

Toby 6 - Toby being Toby

Sanchez 6 - Didn’t have too much to do, looked a little rusty but he seems to be a player that needs to be play tonget the best out of him. Almost got a couple

Rose 4 - love his commitment and attitude but thought today was the worst performance from him for a few seasons. Gave the ball away a fair bit and conceded some stupid free kicks

Winks 7 - was the only player making things happen in the first half.

N’dombele 7 - gassed for majority of the game but got a second wind after his goal and we started to see glimpses of what a player this guy will be

Sissoko 6- guilty of missing two big chances and really only became effective when moved back to CM

Lamela 6 - not his greatest game but his work rate and tenacity led to a goal

Moura 5 - missed a good chance, and was pretty ominous for the whole game until eriksen came on where he started to find some joy on the wings

Kane 8 - Quiet but popped up with two goals, also started to become playmaker with some great passes and a cross

Subs -
Eriksen 8 - metronome changed the game in our favour. Oozed quality with some great passing

Actually thought winks was class. Totally controlled the game and everything went through him

If ever there was a pre-determined opinion I think this fits the bill.

Winks slowed us down massively all game, again absolutely no coincidence, as far from the first time, that his removal allowed us to create and hurt them.
Also totally out of position for their goal.

Eriksen changed the game. As did a switch to a 4-2-3-1. We could have been out there all day with the diamond and not scored .
Funnily enough I was saying to the old man that we needed to go back to the 4231 as the diamond really is a failed experiment, we're far too exposed on the flanks with it.

This managing malarkey is bloody easy you know...

So many things wrong with the first half today. Lack of movement, lack of width, diamond with no creative outlet. Was too easy to defend but we will get a lot better. Not only did it show how much eriksen means to us but in terms of movement also Son and Dele.

Eriksen motm for completely changing the game

Only saw the second half (don’t ask!) but the change of formation to 4-2-3-1 and introduction of CE seemed to change everything. Encouraged to see so many rate KWP as I didn’t see too much from him in second half. Everything seemed to come through the middle but maybe I was missing something or he had a great first half. CE, Ndombele and Kane my top three today. City away will be a stern test without Son, Alli and I assume Lo Celso. So much attacking quality now! Please sign a new contract CE!!!

Lloris - 6: Nothing to do

KWP - 7: Thought he looked busy; could use a bit more confidence going forward but did fine - don’t think he was that suspect defensively but got caught up the field a few times when they countered

Alderweireld - 7: A calming presence for the most part

Sanchez - 6: Takes some blame for the goal, but wasn’t troubled after that. Had a good second half, strong in the tackle and just seemed very assured. More of that.

Rose - 6: Awful defensively for their goal, but he’s such a good player. Really caused them trouble and they couldn’t get near him at times.

Ndombele - 8: Slow, poor in that first half. Very good in the second half; unplayable after he scored. What a gem.

Sissoko - 6: Play him in the middle and nowhere else. Nice work for the third goal.

Winks - 7: Surprised he went off, but was the right decision. Looked our best player up to that point, epitomised by that tackle before they countered.

Lamela - 6: Kept the ball well at points, but just didn’t seem to offer much creatively. His work rate for us that second goal, though.

Lucas - 5: Missed a sitter. Then struggled to impact the game. Looked a bit better out wide.

Kane - 7: When he gets service, he scores. Except that first half, but that doesn’t count. Boy is going to have his best season

Subs:
Eriksen - 7: We looked infinitely more dangerous when he came on. They looked scared too. Keep him.
N’Koudou - N/A: Rapid, but I just don’t see where he fits in when everyone is back.
Skipp - N/A.

Lloris - 7
Couldn't do anything for the goal and wasn't stretches too much. Actually can't remember him being too bad with distribution either.

KWP - 8
I've been critical of him in pre-season and on still have big concerns over him with bigger tests to come. But, credit where it's due, I thought he was very good. Got forward in support well, and didn't turn and look to pass backwards as he has been doing. Needs to work on his final ball, but willing to give him a season to develop.

Rose - 7
With Sanchez, at fault for their goal, but another who got forward well and drove on. Not his best game but he is massive for us.

Toby - 7
Not a whole pile to do but was good in posession. I love him.

Sanchez - 7
Caught out as much as Rose, in my opinion, for their goal but didnt do much wrong to be fair. Still behind Jan for me, but probably needs a lot of game time this year to show he is our future.

Winks - 7
I'll say this now, I love Winks, but, he has to be more positive if he is to step up to that next level. As a previous poster suggested, far too many sideways balls and gesturing for others to go backwards. I also got very frustrated with his many deliveries out to KWP. He picked the right option, but the constant need to float the pass 80 feet in the air, instead of zipping it over, slowed the play down terribly. This boy is gonna be an absolute beast once he realises how truly good he can be.

Sissoko - 7
This guy really does give his all. He ran his socks off. Unfortunately, his passing and finishing is awful. Im conflicted really. While he will always have a place, for me, in the squad as his drive and work rate is exceptional; his lack of skill on the ball will always hinder us at the same time. My player of the year last year, but, I just think the arrival of GLC will see him play a more muted role, but still a vital squad one.

Ndombele - 8
Nowhere near the fitness level of a Poch player, but bloody hell, how exciting is he gonna be when he is?! Showed glimpses of real class by driving forward, trying tight one-twos, step-overs, and lovely passing. Stepped up to score a lovely goal to get us back in it. Gonna be an absolute beast for us.

Lamela - 5
After such an impressive pre-season, he fully warranted his start ahead of Eriksen today. But he was poor. Didn't take a grip on the game and lost possession too many times. Put it down to a bad day.

Lucas - 6
Similar to Lamela. He was completely anonymous 1st half. He will struggle against teams who park the bus because there is no room for him to hurt them with his pace. Far better once moved to the wing in 2nd half, and another who is a vital squad player.

Kane - 8
No room to hurt Villa and I thought their central defenders stood up to him very well. Got more space after the formation change and did what Harry does, wins us games which is the most important job.

Eriksen - 8
I think people saying he won us the game are slightly exaggerating it, but, he was a big factor. He plays passes that nobody else at the club can, and is always looking to play forwards if possible. We will miss him more than some imagine if he goes. I just hope we can keep him cos, at his best, few in his position can match him.

Skipp & N'koudou - not enough minutes.

I've given MOTM to Ndombele. He really grew into the game and a lovely goal to boot. Special mentions to KWP, Winks and Eriksen.

Thought Sanchez was given a torrid time against Villa's new boy. Lamela did OK without really stamping any sort of authority on the game. Lucas struggled. A mixed bag from Sissoko.

Onwards and upwards.

Rose???? You must be having a laugh. He was dreadful. Not only for their goal but he was all over the place. Christ. We’re we watching the same game?

Eriksen MOTM - he changes how we play and dictates where his own teammates go to play our best football..
How was Rose awful and at fault for their goal?

Firstly Sanchez was at fault for getting too tight to the player he was marking and instead of following the danger he just kept grabbing the same player. Toby wasn't marking anybody and wasn't alive to the danger. No midfield player covered the run of their midfield player who scored. If they weren't going to cover the run either they pass him on to a centre back or the centre back calls the midfielder back to mark him.

Rose simply came across on the cover as a good full back should. The player had the composure to cut inside and finish. Nothing to do with Rose at all imo.

He wasn't great but he was strong, attacking and combative as always. There were far worse performances eg sissoko, moura.

Agree, rose played well, was NOT at fault for their goal and most certainly was not poor today, one of our better players.

8.....KWP (MOM), Eriksen,
7.....Kane,Toby, Rose,Winks, Ndombele,Kane
6.....Sanchez, Lamela,
5.....Sissoko, Moura

Poch....5 a seriously stubborn but eventually happy man. Needs to nail down Eriksen
literally if necessary.

Not enough action to assess....Skipp, GKN, Lloris.

Seen that movie before though they've changed it to a happy ending.
