Yeah I'm starting to think that as well.

I'd still be happy with either, and Rich's versatility is a huge plus and he's a work horse, but Raph's superior quality definitely feels the more exciting signing.
Personally I prefer Raph plus a big striker than one utility player (Richarlison). Sell Steve and Moura and we would have 2 options for each of the front 3 positions

Hahaha.....no ways. Anyways Gibbo I've followed the last few pages. Fair dues to you on sticking to your guns. I actually understood your original post... we've made some signings. A free from Italy and Bissouma (who I think is a fantastic signing by all accounts) We have Paratici on board and I've thought we'd be further down the road on our plan.... target A rejects you...move on to B and get him signed up. That's what you seemed to be saying. Not negative and neither impatient.

The transfer window is still young. We all hope we come out stronger more balanced than we went in.

Lastly so many posters can't accept a view which is a bit measured and circumspect....the reactions to you were down right condescending follow.your.own.advice etc..... and the use of ratings( herd mentality) to beat you down.

Damn saying all of this..... I've just realized you might have me on ignore :cautious: :X3::ROFLMAO:.
You do realise the original post was:

We’re great with the free transfers and low ones. Seems we still bottle being that big club you all bleed about we’ve become! when push comes to shove??

… of which a few people probably thought “we haven’t bottled anything here”.

Then ensued a load of straw manning, when really the point of disagreement was nothing to do with most of what was being said.

I know it’s unlikely, but I see no reason we can’t get both Raph & Rich?

We’ve sold CCV for circa 10m, being conservative we could get:

15m for Winks
5m for Lucas
20m for Bergwijn
20m for Lo Celso
Loan for N’Dombele
20m for Emerson
5m for Tanganga
10m for Rodon

Considering our good finances and the cash injection, let’s say we can use 75m of that for transfers/wages, plus incoming fees above/wages of those guys, we have a lot of flexibility I think

We can but they have history of paying over £300k a week for players (Ozil, Sanchez, Auba) where we don't yet. I think Kane can get near that after bonuses but we'd be ripping up our wage structure for it.

That said at some point we do need to elevate our wage structure again, we'll soon have the highest turnover in London.
Lol they aren’t going to pay Raphinha 300k a week.

Guys come on FFS............Reported post after reported post. There's no need for ridicule, trolling or any of the other stuff that happened yesterday evening/last night.

I think a period of reflection from a few posters is required before all this gets out of hand.

It’s not related to raphina but I had a top well respected sports journo contact me the other day as spurs currently are not giving a sniff way on there dealings on his side . That’s a positive for me .

And it’s not fabrizio before anyone asks
Because you are Romano… so you can’t contact yourself

We really need to get a move on with this deal next week, otherwise I can see this going sideways

I’ve been thinking about the forwards market.

Man City - Haaland and Alvarez. Done
Liverpool - Nunez and recently Diaz. Done
Chelsea - possibly Sterling soon, maybe dembele
Arsenal - possibly Jesus soon
Man Utd - possibly Antony soon

if that all plays out then basically all our premier league rivals are out of the forwards market. There will still be a lot of talent left and we will have a much clearer run with clubs/agents not able to use fake premier league bids to drive up prices. Given I’d imagine we aren’t fussed missing out on Sterling, Dembele, Jesus and Antony, perhaps we are seeing how this plays out? Still early in the window.

Raphinha is only worth roughly half as much as Phillips imo (i.e. £20-25m)...shame Leeds won't see it that way.
He’s 25 and scored 11 PL goals for a poor team last year as a winger. How is that 20-25m in today’s markets? Transfermarkt has him worth £40.5m, and Leeds don’t have to sell, hence his valuation

I admit to being cynical, but when you get to my age it goes with the territory.

Levy's Wheelbarrow of cash?
Bank borrowing facilities in place?
New injection of £150 million.

We have still at present only invested in 2 free transfers (signing in fees) plus £25m (plus future add ons) for Bissouma.

We are arguing of £2-3m on Djed Spence and posturing walking away from a potential £50m player in the future that we regret.

We are what we are bargain hunters extraordinaire.

Please, please Levy make this post look stupid.

I’d have a guess are our first choice strike is Martinez and our first choice defender is still Bastoni. So we’re waiting until the 30th June when Inter have to find cash. If those fail then we’d move in.

transfer window is open until the first week in September I think. So still a while to go.

Agree there are plenty of good players left.

Look at your list, we are going for 'the rest/what's left'.

Then still have to contend with the European big boys.

Agree this could be the case. It's just down to perception.

I wouldnt really want both. Id want a number 9 too if we are going for two more to replace both Bergwijn and Lucas if both go.

Richarlison could work as a 9 but not convinced

The emotional investment that some fans put into transfers is genuinely frightening.

If Arsenal want to pay Raphinha 300K a week, he'll probably go there and to be honest that's fine by me.

Covid has changed the financial landscape of football in Europe and there are now fewer clubs outside of the PL who can afford high fees and high wages. Players are also running down contracts far more often, so managing the wage bill is the most prudent thing any club can do, irrespective of their size.

So far we have generally been smart about this, while still significantly upping the wages for key players like Kane which makes sense. Players that have come and proven themselves need to be properly compensated. But when you start smashing your wage bill to bring players in, it's a slippery slope, as we have seen with Ndombele. If we were to match Arsenal's wage offer for Raphinha it would have a rippling consequence throughout the squad.

Our pipping Arsenal to fourth means we have yet another facet to what we offer players. CL football, along with a world class stadium and training facilities and a truly elite manager will attract many players ahead of crazy wages. Arsenal can now offer none of these and so they have to once again gamble on the finances.

It has caused them massive problems before, with the likes of Ozil and Aubameyang literally bleeding the club dry for little in return, but finishing fifth means they will go big again this summer - but they are taking a massive risk because they need top 4 to make it pay off and I just can't see them getting it any time soon.

Right now the clubs are on opposite trajectories. Everything we are doing right now is sustainable. We are building on a sound financial base, our infrastructure is in place and the stadium is a massive revenue generator. If I was an Arsenal fan I'd be sick to the stomach watching our plan progress while they frantically try and stem their spiral to mediocraty. I suspect it's going to take a lot more than overpaying Jesus and Raphinha
