I’d have a guess are our first choice strike is Martinez and our first choice defender is still Bastoni. So we’re waiting until the 30th June when Inter have to find cash. If those fail then we’d move in.

transfer window is open until the first week in September I think. So still a while to go.
I think this is most likely the case, but no way we’ll get both.

If we manage to get Bastoni, I feel inter will hold on to Martinez and we’ll pull the trigger on one of the 5 forwards @Trix mentioned.

Or, If we can somehow get Martinez, Bastoni stays and we finalise a deal with one of Torres/Gvardiol/Bremer.

The obvious scenario is that Inter totally shaft us and then this place goes onto meltdown.

I agree they are both sensible targets.

Let's hope we get to sign at least one of them.

Grown men reporting posts! Good lord.
I see we have now talked ourselves into arsenal paying him 300k a week.
The insecurity is strong in this thread

Chill. It’s more important to bring in the right pieces and to finish the puzzle. Than beating Arsenal and overpaying for one piece, which may hinder us to strengthen in other parts of the pitch

If Raphina were instrumental to Contes plans than I’m certain we would have been more agressive in getting him in.

We have started this window brilliantly and nothing suggests we’re slowing down. I haven’t felt this confident in our transfer strategy for ages. Trust the process.

I wouldnt really want both. Id want a number 9 too if we are going for two more to replace both Bergwijn and Lucas if both go.

Richarlison could work as a 9 but not convinced

Richarlison predominantly plays as a number 9, that's where he's best, but with the added bonus of being very good from the left as well. Both Raphinha and Richarlison would be the perfect set of signings, and would give us easily one of the best frontlines in football.

If Arsenal want to pay Raphinha 300K a week, he'll probably go there and to be honest that's fine by me.

Covid has changed the financial landscape of football in Europe and there are now fewer clubs outside of the PL who can afford high fees and high wages. Players are also running down contracts far more often, so managing the wage bill is the most prudent thing any club can do, irrespective of their size.

So far we have generally been smart about this, while still significantly upping the wages for key players like Kane which makes sense. Players that have come and proven themselves need to be properly compensated. But when you start smashing your wage bill to bring players in, it's a slippery slope, as we have seen with Ndombele. If we were to match Arsenal's wage offer for Raphinha it would have a rippling consequence throughout the squad.

Our pipping Arsenal to fourth means we have yet another facet to what we offer players. CL football, along with a world class stadium and training facilities and a truly elite manager will attract many players ahead of crazy wages. Arsenal can now offer none of these and so they have to once again gamble on the finances.

It has caused them massive problems before, with the likes of Ozil and Aubameyang literally bleeding the club dry for little in return, but finishing fifth means they will go big again this summer - but they are taking a massive risk because they need top 4 to make it pay off and I just can't see them getting it any time soon.

Right now the clubs are on opposite trajectories. Everything we are doing right now is sustainable. We are building on a sound financial base, our infrastructure is in place and the stadium is a massive revenue generator. If I was an Arsenal fan I'd be sick to the stomach watching our plan progress while they frantically try and stem their spiral to mediocraty. I suspect it's going to take a lot more than overpaying Jesus and Raphinha
No way they pay him that. That’s more than they’ve just signed Jesus for.

I mean he doesn’t. He plays best and most at LW

Not quite. If anyone gets a load of neg reps it automatically reports it so we can take a look. To have one person getting that many neg reps across multiple posts in a thread suggests they're being a dick.

Can we please ban the word A*****L from SC? The obsession with them in here is getting out of control!
They're our rivals. The obsession drives us to demand better, and without them life would be less thrilling.
I actually love that we're the most hated team amongst our London rivals, and one of the most hated teams in the UK. Adds a lovely spice to football.

Striving for greatness is what the club and fan base should be all about. Obsessing over every move or supposed move they are making in the window is not healthy as its leading to major meltdowns for some and in turn ridiculous skewed thinking.

He started 23 games in the league last season as a centre forward, and only 7 at LW, and he's Brazil's literal number 9.
Only because DCL was injured so much. Plus Brazil have no strikers so that’s understandable as they have a lot of LW. Look at his stats, he’s a much better LW

What's the point of discussing 'their' business in this forum? Why give 'fhem' the importance 'they' don't deserve?
I get we shouldn’t be discussing their business in this thread but absolutely no harm in doing it in general transfer/ Arsenal thread

Not really.
I didn't mean literally ban the word arsenal and probably shouldn't have worded it like that.

I meant can we stop obsessing over what they are doing in comparison to what we are doing and consistently bringing them up in these threads. The fact we are allegedly aiming to sign similar players doesn't help but the obsession levels at times are absurd.
