Arsenal are shit, but they're probably better than us. Think the home game against them may well be a very sobering afternoon.
If we lose the home game against Arsenal then I say we should tear the new stadium down and play our matches without supporter stands in Bruce Castle Park. Imagine spending all that money on the stadium (diverting funds away from the team in the process) and then losing your inaugural home derby games against West Ham, Chelsea AND Arsenal there. It would be cursed, proper ancient Indian burial ground-style.

The problem is we dont pick up points from teams around or above us (city aside). We lose or drop points in the important games, the BIG games, Chelsea, Wolves, Man U, Leicester, Sheff utd. We dont turn up or we're not upto it.

You can bet that when the remianing crunch games against Arsenal, Man U, Sheff utd, Leicester even Burnley come around we wont turn up either, throw a cup final for Wham in the mix and i will be very very suprised if we finish top 5.

I'm not ready to single anyone out though, we have had a shocker of a season in terms of injuries, the team is in the middle of a re build. Its just genuinely where we are at the moment.

Mourinho has taken over a very disorganised out of shape, out of form team half way through a season. I think the reality check might do some of these players good.

I'm resigned to 6th place this year, no champs league next year and and a solid summer in terms of re organisation and strengthening (optimistic on the latter as always).

Given that we are currently 7th, and your predicted results against those teams around us ( with which I tend to agree) , I think a finishing position of 10th or 11th is more realistic. Would missing Europa next season be preferable or give us a shot at more realistic European silverware and a 5th CL opportunity?
I can see a likely scenario where we stumble into the 'fa cup final , probably aided by the luck of the draw and at least Sonny returning in time for a SF. You wouldn't fancy us against any of the better teams but you might well think that Jose will make it happen somehow or other because that's what he does.

Hercules, 're your disagree rating. What is it that you are disagreeing with then? Presumably the 10th or 11th position?

10th/11th isn't acceptable. We need to be realistically looking at 6th up to 4th. Even with our injuries anything lower isn't acceptable withnthe money we have spent and players we still have available. 6th, even 7th could still get Europa League, not something we should be turning our noses up if it comes down to it.

I’m done with this season now, not a chance we’ve got what it takes to even get top five!

Up to 12th now. CL spot looks very difficult but a Europa spot looks possible atm although USA & Japan are predicated to have very strong run ins

You know that we will lose to both spammers and the goons.

We've already lost our inaugural derby at the new ground to West Ham, 0-1 last season. If we get done by Arsenal later this season we may as well knock it down and start again.

Honestly think wolves have the best chance for 4th place now. If we can somehow scrape a win this weekend and city beat utd and everton take points at chelsea then I'll get my hopes up again about us.

Would be just our luck if they do end up making teams play behind closed doors that it could be two home games in Man Utd and West Ham when we could do with the support of the fans rather than some away matches.

Possibly but as they get further in Europe they may suffer same for Utd

Has anyone said ‘lose today and Top 4 is over’ or has this season killed all the optimists too?

Yeah, this is now a race for 5th place.

And that’s with optimism.

Not a cat in hell’s chance

Sadly I think Chelsea will seal top four even though they are not at their best anymore they still have a better winning mentality than anyone at our club.

Cannot see us getting Champions League football this year to be honest, Son's injury was the final nail in the coffin. We were in a decent position before that was announced.
